  1. It's strange the way we part with what are potentially great cars and then regret it. My MK4 LS400 is a good example, as is my last LS430, a truly immaculate car. Then there's my GS300 that appeared on eBay last week being described as "in rare condition". So my current Celsior is staying with me for the foreseeable!
  2. Nice job and a very clear tutorial. And not American so you don't start by saying "Hey what's up"!!
  3. I would love to own one but like others have said, I'd be constantly concerned about what may go wrong with that vast amount of technology. It's all a gamble really, on the other hand life is often about taking risks. Hmm. Maybe remind yourself that the LS400 is undoubtedly the most reliable car Lexus ever made, and in many respects still is!
  4. Expensive.
  5. Celsior!
  6. Good idea that, I wouldn't mind watching it all again, especially as I love Cornwall!
  7. I do remember bottles etc wobbling around in my GS cup holder so maybe they didn't have an insert.
  8. An excellent result, and excellent info, well done!
  9. The older I get the more I tend to sit for most things! I'm guessing the seller is playing the rarity card with this, but a buyer for a 17 year old IS may be even rarer! It does look very good for its year, apart from the driver's seat which looks like too much coffee and nowhere to pee apart from in situ!
  10. Amarillo it was called, and the ad is correct, it was made in limited numbers.
  11. It really is disappointing that a luxury car brand has rattles. I remember my GS, a great car but sounded like driving an old wooden ship! With online info and various bits and pieces it was almost ok, still disappointing though to find YouTube tutorials on how to stop your Lexus creaks and rattles.
  12. I've always said the motors on these probably fail because the retraction etc is fairly slow, and mostly when we park we get out quickly grabbing the steering wheel for support, that puts enormous pressure on the motors. They both work on mine and I'm very conscious about not grabbing the wheel when I get out. I've also never come across any other reasons for the problem whether intermittent or permanent that weren't caused by motor failure/failing.
  13. It's normal for the brake pedal to start hard and go down when you start up, that's when the servo which assists braking kicks in.
  14. There's a YouTube video somewhere showing how to deal with stiff hinges on a GS, maybe if you can find it you'll get some help there.
  15. Hopefully it'll be something else, the brake master cylinder isn't something that we tend to hear about as troublesome.
  16. Very nice, and good to have another member from the Emerald Isle!
  17. I see there are new Denso starters on eBay for £165. And repair kits UK for contacts, also on eBay.
  18. I think if they ask for a charge (like they do with steering racks etc) it's unlikely they'll sell one without. The problem with the starter going, assuming it is, there are days when it's fine and days when it isn't. Personally I'd go for having the contacts replaced if the seller is still around, that's what I did. I had times when I would have to try several times before it engaged, other times it was ok. From what you've said, and if the battery is good, I'd be surprised if it was anything other than the starter.
  19. You're right I think, the US one is fitted on the opposite side so perhaps not compatible.
  20. Another obvious thing is check the terminal clamps are tight. When the starter went in my 400 some years ago it rapidly got to the stage where I wasn't sure it would turn at all so I'm guessing you need to act fairly quickly if battery checks are ok.
  21. It's worth a quick email to Rock, it maybe a typo?
  22. Welcome!👍
