  1. Hi Neil, I'm fine and dandy thanks. Although I'm a Volvo owner now I still go to John, as I did for a cambelt recently. Personally, I would travel even if he wasn't local, I trust him completely. A catch up sometime is in order maybe?
  2. I pm'd Lance with the info on the above mentioned South Coast garage some days ago as just like you I've used them for two Lexus cambelts. I suggested a day by the coast while the work is done but I didn't get a reply.
  3. I could have written that myself, and probably just like you I would receive flack for it!
  4. That's why my main source of news these days is uk column, independent and without an agenda, apart from truth of course!
  5. I couldn't agree more but will there be referendums, of course not. It'll be imposed on us just like the covid rules. I'm fully expecting Brighton (which is 12 miles from us) to soon become a ulez zone followed by a 15 minute city. All of course without public consultation. On the EV thing, our local Sainsbury's, and it's a big one, has just two charging points!
  6. Of course that's true but unless people make a stand we may as well just roll over and accept it. There does seem to be a move in the right direction but it needs to be discussed and shared.
  7. I won't shop anywhere where they won't take cash, so many more should do the same while we still have it!
  8. Whether EV's take off to the extent that Greta and others hope for I'm probably getting too old to know the end result. I'm a great fan of the ICE car and I really hope that in the years I have left I don't submit to a car that goes along sounding like a washing machine on spin cycle and has a dodgy recycling future. My current vehicle on the other hand is very recyclable. Plus I can do just about any repairs to it myself without the risk of touching the wrong part and having my hair stand on end or worse!
  9. I think the problem is innocent ignorance. The general population don't really research before buying, but even if they did, would they turn a blind eye?
  10. https://www.wilsoncenter.org/blog-post/drc-mining-industry-child-labor-and-formalization-small-scale-mining An interesting read highlighting something that will only get worse. Something that EV owners need to take notice of rather than assuming the shiny car with the green stripe on the reg plate means you've "done the right thing"
  11. No, but you still have to be hybrid qualified to work on the system when it does require it, regardless of whether it's a main dealer or not.
  12. Yes, I realise that, my point being is that as the cars age people will be tempted to try to at least investigate hybrid/EV issues, that's when the danger will be very real.
  13. Exactly that. You have to be qualified to work on a hybrid, whereas anyone with simple knowledge can work on a conventional car. Hybrids are still 3 phase like EV's
  14. I understand that, and that "service parts" are pretty much the same as a conventional car, I'm really refering to the real danger of inexperienced people trying to save money with DIY maintenance and the very real danger of electric shocks.
  15. You wouldn't be if you visited your doctor! Confucius
  16. Devil's finger!
  17. Prostate 😱
  18. The other issue I have with EV's is the fact that hardly anyone will be able to do anything apart from very simple repairs. For some of us it's a huge saving to be able to fix our cars if they go wrong. It's another reason why EV's will only be for the financially better off, especially for those wanting to do longer journeys like holidays.
  19. I tend to agree with you on this. Ukraine and covid are a gift for a government sucking up to the green agenda, it's a perfect excuse for the high price of fuel. They were rocketing up before Ukraine was news but now there's someone to blame.
