  1. You just can't do these kind of things to these cars, it just doesn't work. The only time it may work is when you see them in America and they've thrown thousands at them.
  2. Excellent. I'm really pleased for you. Unfortunately Lexus don't seem to have a very good relationship with LPG!
  3. Come on Mike, as you pointed it out, get your wallet out and buy the LS400 with the orange wheels. Then you can buy this one and put the orange wheels on this!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Allard-Lexus-LS400-Prototype-restored-by-Allard-Motor-Sport-/201233400178?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2eda720172
  4. Either way it doesn't seem to point to a head gasket, which I think is very, very uncommon on these engines anyway. Let's hope it turns out to be something simple!
  5. I don't know of a test for the exhaust, but this may be of some help, but you'll need to take it to a garage I guess.
  6. Hi Roger, welcome to the LOC, a wise choice!! :)
  7. Check the transmission level asap, just in case, hopefully you can rule that out at least
  8. How recent was the radiator replacement? There are stories of them taking an age to completely fill due to air locks and the large amount they hold.
  9. You can get the colour made from the paint code, I've done it twice. I did my last wheels, it took ages to do them but they came out OK. Like anything, preparation is so important. I got the paint from Halfords, grey primer, a bright Vauxhall silver, and importantly clear lacquer. Just be sure to let the primer cure before the silver, same with the lacquer, or it will pickle.
  10. No need to apologise. Anyway, you can't be Victor Meldrew as well, I became him years ago! Just remember, if you alter the transmitter, press the button, and suddenly find people around you are wearing top hats, and the children have sticks and hoops, and everything is in black and white, you've gone too far with it!!
  11. Not at all, I mean it out of total respect for what you're trying to do. Taking my metaphorical hat off is not the same as eating it. I love to see people beat the system by using their own initiative. I really hope it works because if it does it may help others. Please keep us posted.
  12. I've just purchased a hat so that if your plan works I can take it off to you!
  13. That looks the business! Nice colour as well.
  14. Isn't there a story of a team of mechanics that took a couple of hours or so just to work out where the starter is?
  15. I'm a carpenter, but you won't get me for three days for that money!! £160 is good for the labour. Have they done one before do you know? I've heard of garages quoting without knowing what's really involved.
  16. I'm not familiar with the separate fob, so unless someone can come up with a solution it may have to be the main dealer. I don't think I would chance doing anything to modify what you have on such a complex car. I took the glass out of my rear view mirror looking for a connection for a dash cam, I quickly put it all back as it looked like the inside of my computer!
  17. I didn't read the text at first, I thought you'd cut the black paint back to the primer! Nice job, and I think to answer your question, I'm sure others would agree if I say the original Lexus paint finish is of excellent quality and can take a bit of elbow work.
  18. I didn't know you had a fob separate from the key. Is this a standard set up on what I assume is a MK3 does anyone know?
  19. You should be able to find one on ebay if you're not in a hurry. If you go to a main dealer it will save you a lot of hassle, but will cost you around £200. I can't remember exactly but I paid around £25 for the key, £2.50 for a blank and £8 to get it cut at a local locksmith, but then you have to program it. If you go for the used option make sure it looks identical to yours and with the same numbers etc. The sequence for programming can be found here somewhere if you do a search.
  20. I did the same, bigger wheels but it spoiled the ride, so I went back to the way it was designed! Falken tyres seem to get a good review on this forum.
  21. I didn't know the LS400 had keyless entry, do you mean just the remote locking fob? If so, I got mine on ebay a couple of years ago by asking one of the breakers, then programmed it to my car. And yes, the US ones won't work here. What year is yours?
  22. Welcome to the LOC Andy! :)
  23. It's a mystery to me, surely it's just common courtesy to welcome new members. Now if you had posted an article about someone painting an LS400 pink with orange spots, you'd be off the scale! Enjoy your car, and there is good info available on this forum. Phil
  24. Hi Laurence, welcome to the LOC. That's a very tidy looking motor you've got there!
  25. Now it wasn't me who worked this out, but. Taking into account current US fuel prices, this car would have munched its way through £80,000 worth of fuel. In the good old UK £195,000..... apparently!
