I would suggest phoning DVLA. I transferred my plate from the car I sold, to the one I have now, but wasn't sure of the procedure. I phoned DVLA and they are surprisingly helpful, and gave me all the info I needed. I did it first thinking I knew, but they sent it all back!

Wanting A Little Help/knowledge New To The Lexus Scene
The-Acre replied to robvause's topic in Lexus IS200 / Lexus IS300 Club
It all seems a bit slow at the moment Rob. As there are many IS owners on the forum, I'm sure you'll get your info before too long! -
Hi Jim, welcome to the LOC. And a Happy New Year to you!

I sold my LS400 last year and whilst it was the right decision for me at the time, I really missed owning such a car and as superb as my Audi A8 was, as a total ownership and satisfaction proposition it just didn't compare to the Lexus My recent LS430 purchase is filling the void very nicely now and although I did have some air suspension issues with this car, I am now really starting to enjoy the whole ownership experience again #satisfiedlsowner Me too. I think the LS430 is a fab car. I may consider a later GS at some time, but today we were out in the 430 and just enjoyed wafting along. I also found the rear blind was great when the low sun came through the rear window!

My front speakers vibrate a bit if the volume is too loud. It's a shame that when the very proud Mark Levinson graciously agreed to have his system put in a car, he couldn't make it last as long as the vehicle. I'm just glad I haven't shelled out four figures for one of his systems at home. I'll stick with my Denon thank you Mr L.

Thanks for that. I bought the Transcend DrivePro 200 at £75. It's rated highly by many motoring organisations and comes with a 16gb sd card. It also has wifi for connecting to an iphone or Android device and has brilliant picture quality. Early days yet but so far so good! Have a look at this, you might find it very interesting http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/95452-diy-fitting-auto-dimming-rear-view-mirror/ Be sure to read the thread through, it covers what you are looking for later. Hope this helps. Excellent, thank you. And I can certainly recommend the Drivepro dash cam, although the sticky holder supplied with it isn't great, so I bought the optional one with a sucker mount.

Hi George, welcome to the LOC, you know it makes sense!! :)

Interestingly this seems to come up every year, and always at about this time. My wife has had her car for about 8 years, and every single year she gets very bad condensation, to the point that it can run down the windscreen. It lasts for about 3 weeks and then doesn't return! The same has happened to my cars, always the same time of the year, always goes after 3 or 4 weeks. I've noticed many other cars doing the same thing. BTW, non of our cars leak or have wet things left in them. Why it happens I have no idea. It'll be interesting to know if your problem stops in the next couple of weeks or so. Any scientists out there want to explain this?

I think that's true enough, but all parts will eventually wear, and on luxury cars we have to expect high repair bills, otherwise we'd be driving 3 door hatch backs. When it comes down to the nuts and bolts of it, it's a lot to do with risk. I've said before that my first MK2 was a car that I expected to keep for a year, not expecting too much in reliability for an old car. In the end I had it for 5 years without hardly any issues. But, it could easily have gone the other way. So with the LS430 I get to drive sheer luxury, knowing that it's a risk, but having a little more hope being aware of Lexus reliability over the rivals.

It may just be worth mentioning that the guy who did mine, who advertises as a Toyota/Lexus specialist, and has worked for Lexus, said that he has never replaced the suspension system on an LS430. And this is always the problem, we hear about the few that go wrong, but not about the majority that don't. BTW Chris, where in Somerset are you, or did I ask you that before?

My LS430 was a 1 owner car, almost 11 years old with only 42k miles on the clock which sounded very bizarre given that these sorts of cars are typically used by drivers for higher annual mileages but the MOTs and the mileage checks were all fine. What did disappoint me though was the items which I needed to get fixed including the front and rear suspension and the electric steering column adjustment. Having said that, the car is now fine and driving just like I would expect it to. My previous LS400 still rates as the best ever car I have owned but in time I hope I will be feeling the same about my LS430 I picked mine up today after having a sensor replaced and one freed up. I mentioned that there is someone with a low mileage car that has needed a lot of suspension work. He said that it's likely due to lack of use, which in a way makes sense. Just as not using the parking brake from time to time can cause it to seize, the same can happen to any part. That's one reason for pressing the height button occasionally, just to keep things moving. At least I discovered that these sensors don't always need replacing, but can easily be taken apart, cleaned and lubricated. I still haven't got around to it but an external transmission cooler has to be the next job, just as a precaution against failure. It's a cheap and straightforward job it seems.

Mine's up in the air at the moment waiting for a rear suspension sensor which has virtually seized. Over £300 for the part but the work is easy. The old one was off in just a few minutes. They took them both off just to check the movement, they also took them both apart which was also easy. Which makes me wonder, why can't they just be removed, cleaned and freed up and put back together sealing the joints? After all, it seems that just water ingress is the main issue.
-
I noticed yesterday that the car wasn't sitting level. One side is about an inch lower. Would I be correct in thinking this may be the height sensor issue that seems to plague these cars? I feels OK otherwise.

Just don't do it when you're driving! :)

I'm sure for these drivers the reason is just a complete lack of awareness of everything around them however it does cost - the energy the lights are using isn't free. Lexus estimated that just by changing the rear lights on the RX from standard bulbs to LED saved up to 1% in fuel. What I mean is that it doesn't cost anything compared to the general energy consumption of running a vehicle. Mostly it's just ignorance, the kind that goes with blocking roundabouts, parking on corners, and all the other things that get up the noses of sensible and courteous drivers.

I see you've discovered the bee in my bonnet! I just don't understand it, it's not like it costs anything. I have my dipped headlights on most days at this time of year. What really gets me is when its foggy or misty and drivers only put their side light on, why? At least in years to come all used cars will have daytime lights, like it or not.
