  1. There's certainly been many posts regarding water coming in from the blocked sun roof drain holes, it happened to me as well. Get some heavy commercial strimmer line and give the holes a gentle prodding.
  2. Welcome to the LOC Sarosh. You're allowed to use the name BMW once, twice if you're really desperate!! Glad you're enjoying the Lexus experience.
  3. The system is really unfair for many. My wife got three points for doing 35 in a thirty limit, easily done but a warning for the first time would be so much fairer. On a positive note, there have been a few cases where insurance companies have paid witnesses for the info on their dash cams.
  4. When changed my LS400 to an LS430 my insurance came down by about 25%. When I asked why they told me it's because it's a safer car than the LS400, and is also harder to break in with the laminated windows.
  5. I didn't think the alarm on an LS 400 could be disabled, there's been various posts in the past asking that.
  6. Ultimately it will result in a replacement rack. However, testers can sometimes be over zealous. I had this exact advisory on my other car two years ago. My last MOT in April this year made no mention of it! Much depends on the extent of the play. It's possible if it was tested elsewhere it wouldn't even be noticed. I would check on what they mean by play, if it's only an advisory it can surely only be slight otherwise it would have failed.
  7. I see you're from SE London, I've just finished working and living at a house in South Norwood, we were there for six weeks, not too bad until you venture up to Portland Rd!!
  8. Considering how cheap batteries are compared to many car parts, I like to change them every three years, just for peace of mind.
  9. Welcome to the LOC Qui, Things are a bit slow sometimes due to Lexus being less common. I can't answer the question on the IS, but hopefully someone will soon!
  10. Now I can't resist a comment can I? I've had two ls400's for a total of 7 years, and they were great cars, no doubt. The LS430 however, is, (in my opinion) superior in almost every way. In those 7 years, I've experienced rust, starter problems, coil pack problems, wiper motor problems, suspension knock problems, damp boot problems, leaking power steering pump problems, air con problems, exhaust blowing problems, seat heater problems, display problems, a power steering rack leak, and that's just the things I remember. Oh, I nearly forgot the leaking sun roof. So as good as they are, the LS400 (unlike the Pope apparently) are not infallible. As I've said before, some of the known problems on the 430 can be prevented easily, and fairly cheaply. There are usually a couple being broken so parts can be bought for very little. For anyone considering one, buy one for peanuts, keep £1200 under your mattress if you really are worried about future air problems and have coils put on. Put in a new radiator for £90 to take away concerns of gearbox probs, and you'll have a superb limo and peace of mind.
  11. The "bile from the cheap rad post" has lost me! You must be brilliant at cryptic crosswords.
  12. You certainly are! I moved from London to the Herefordshire countryside, and then to the Sussex coast. Ask me if I'd move back to London now that you can't even park outside our old house!
  13. Good job! When I had the starter on my previous LS400 repaired the price was less than the original quote, the guy doing it said it took less time than he anticipated. Glad to see you've got the holes plugged up, you wouldn't want nuts of any variety going down there! So presumably you're just replacing the contacts and plunger which is what many others have done, including me?
  14. Like Mark, I didn't have any battery problems. And I love the expression, "End of the food chain in terms of ownership" That's one I'm going to remember! The way I see it, they cost so little to buy now, so if I had a major problem needing mega bucks spent, I'd just look for another one! Should that happen, I'll keep the current one as a donor car.
  15. I'm afraid that itch will be hard to get rid of, I know, I've had many! I'm very glad I sold my MK4 to get an LS430, it's by far the best car I've owned, but I know the risks we take when we buy cars that were made for the luxury market. It seems you just have to be in the right place at the right time, like the guy that bought my MK4 last year for £1,100 with 107K Just don't put a bid on when you're "drinking about it"
  16. Nice colour, one of my favourites. it wouldn't bother me, most cam belts that are changed look OK when they're removed. Have you tried a MK4? It's one amazing car, not that I'm saying the others aren't of course. Also I would have thought the starting price was about it really.
  17. If you really want to make a point Geoff, then write to the Chief Constable with a copy to your M.P. expressing your views and if you do not receive what you consider to be an appropriate response, then write to the Editor of your local paper enclosing copies of all correspondence to date. The pigeons will be very upset by your cat! We are all being reminded that as citizens we need to take responsibility. "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing" Dashcams provide us all with the opportunity to take responsibility seriously and demand that those we elect do the same. Regards John I would agree with writing to the Chief Constable and MP, perhaps especially your MP. I know MP's don't generally have much of a reputation when it comes to serving their community, but about 3 years ago I contacted my MP regarding an unfair contract I was in with a waste disposal company, the Federation of Small Businesses legal staff were next to useless, My MP got me out of the contract within days, with over £1,000 of alleged debt cancelled, so they can work for you. Easy enough to email your MP, and maybe ask him/her to contact the Chief Constable.
  18. This may interest someone, could be a bargain? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/lexus-ls430-/261959924095?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3cfe07397f
  19. I'm just reading this with interest as I've said the same thing many times, rarely do members comment on how good their air suspension is, and how reliable it's been. And I suppose in reality these forums exist primarily for trouble shooting. For that reason I don't think we should be put off buying a car with air, but maybe we should buy with the understanding that Lexus will always be an expensive car to repair....if it goes wrong.
