  1. To be fair I did find both cooling and heating were good. The filters are rarely changed, out of sight, out of mind! I didn't do mine as the previous owner said they had been replaced, but I don't think they're that difficult. maybe you can just clean the existing ones? I certainly didn't hear the fans running unless I turned the (fiddly) switch round. I see you're from Yorkshire, I drove all the way there and back yesterday, a 520 mile round trip!
  2. I believe the seats are heated with an electric element, I never used my seat fan except for cooling, but for heating I just switched it on.
  3. I agree, the turning circle is not good! Whereas the turning circle on the LS is just amazing. I must say the 250 miles drive back home on Friday was a pleasure......until I hit the M25 at 4.30! Even so, 5.5 hours from Pontefract to the Sussex coast was pretty good for a Friday.
  4. I've got the facelift V70 SE Sport D5 auto. It goes like a rocket and has pop up sat nav, heated and cooled perforated leather, keyless entry/start, double glazed, folding mirrors, puddle lights, Bluetooth, an amazing sound system etc, BUT, it's not built the way a Lexus is built, and I'm not sure where it would be when it's 18 years old. The LS is insured and taxed, so I think I'll spend some time on it as mark suggested and then make a decision. I have to introduce it to a very nice green LS in Brighton anyway!
  5. The Volvo doesn't waft so much but it is a very high spec car, actually with many of the toys the LS430 had. And it's a pleasure to drive. I won't rush, I need to spend some time giving it thought.
  6. You're right of course. I won't rush it and it is possible I'll think again. As you say, I'll spend some time giving it a good buffing and give the carpets a clean to freshen them up.
  7. Thanks gentlemen. But this is the daft thing, I'm not actually sure I'm going to keep it now! I was working up in Liverpool so it was not problem to get across country to pick the car up, but now I've got it back I'm wondering if I did the right thing. The reason I sold the LS430 was to buy the Volvo, which I'm afraid to say is so much nicer to drive than the Lexus. It's only by comparing the two together that I've realised it. So it may well be appearing on a certain auction site soon. Absolutely crazy I know because I'm bound to take a big hit on it. Anyway, that's life!
  8. A 250 mile drive home from Yorkshire, and apart from the usual steering wobble sometimes under braking it drove faultlessly, with an average showing at 30.6MPG. A bit of tidying up to do, one of the worse being it was a smokers car, but overall it was a treat to drive! I'll get some photos on soon. And Steve, if you read this, they sorted out the blower, the mirrors, and the seat belt height adjuster, so all works fine. Phil
  9. Ta, I'm in Liverpool this eve, picking the car up tomorrow.
  10. Thank you, I'll give you a call soon so you can see it in the flesh/metal. It was seeing yours last week that made me glad I decided to get another one!
  11. At last we've agreed that I pick it up Friday lunchtime. That should just about work out right for me hitting the M25 at rush hour! A 250 mile drive home in a car that I haven't even sat in yet!! And Mike, you were right, phoning the insurance company made no difference to the premium. I'll hopefully post some photos in the next few days......However, I was very tempted today. I was offered a mint XJ6 on an 04 plate with 120K for just £60 more than an S reg Lexus. I convinced myself (and I hope I'm right) that the LS will still be going while the Jag spends many hours in car hospital.
  12. It's the blue one in Pontefract, still listed on eBay. The heater blower wasn't working when Steve went to check it for me...and it's still not working nearly two weeks later! I've paid a deposit but its all painfully slow. The annoying thing is that I'm working in Liverpool tomorrow so I could easily pick it up on Friday if it was sorted.
  13. Correct young man! That's actually not a bad idea. I've contacted the breakers asking if they'll do that. They only want £30 for the complete grille which isn't bad. Steve, as you're a MK4 owner now, can you measure the grille for me so I know what size box to get? Thanks
  14. This one has been sat around for years, in five years its done around 5k in the last 4 years its done 2K and for the last 12 months its just sat around. You need to look at this very carefully. Cam belt done at 148k with Lexus and local garage service records. If I hadn't paid a deposit on one where the dealer is beginning to try my patience I would certainly be interested in this. I know you can't always tell but this does seem really genuine.
  15. A bit of a long shot. There's a breakers in Bury St Edmunds that have a front grille for an LS400 but they won't post. So I wondered if anyone in that part of the world would be able to pick it up and get it packed and posted to me. A bit of an ask I know, but it's worth a try. Thanks Phil
  16. Looks like a good genuine car, although the seller isn't replying to any questions yet.
  17. They're all appearing in Yorkshire at the moment! Looks OK this one. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-LEXUS-LS-400-AUTO-SAT-NAV-LEATHER-CRUISE-EXCELENT-CONDITION-FOR-YEAR-/222005723634?hash=item33b09281f2:g:v-UAAOSwLnlWpi7L
  18. A fair bit more I'm afraid. I haven't got cover yet as the car isn't quite ready, hopefully in the next couple of days.
  19. The best thing is to take it to your nearest Toyota dealer (if you have one) they'll fit the correct one and will probably do it for free. They generally don't charge anymore than other suppliers. About £85 I believe.
  20. Things are weirder than you think. Yesterday I got messages to someone else from another member with an email address, about 10 times!
  21. I don't necessarily think they're a selling point, they still look like a 90's wheel, they're just a bit less common. I don't even think the DHP cars are worth much more, if anything.
  22. Just so you know, the suspension sensors are actually £350 each+ fitting. But as you say, they can be taken apart and lubricated and resealed. I had one replaced, and one freed up and resealed. If the radiator coolant leaks into the transmission you won't get any warning as such, then it'll be too late. A very easy job to replace the rad, about 1-1.5 hours. it also means you can refill with fresh coolant from Toyota for about £25.
  23. If I hadn't paid a deposit on the one up north I would probably have looked at this. Although having looked at the one in Sussex last week described as "In great condition" photos seem to mean nothing. Talking about the one up north, how loooong can it take to fix a heater blower! And how come nearly all the MK4's that have come up for sale lately have the DHP wheels!
  24. The one I'm getting has gold badges, I thought they were a Lexus option. I agree about the other badge! Although thinking about it again, the one I'm getting also has a gold VIP badge of some kind on the grille, that'll have to go!
  25. This new listing doesn't look bad for the money does it? Depending on history etc of course http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-LS400-/262251126178?hash=item3d0f629da2:g:I9sAAOSw5dNWnN1p
