  1. having said how hard it was, if I was to do it again it would be much more straightforward. I eventually found a way through from the boot light. Even the guy with the workshop next to mine failed to get through, and he fits meters and signs to taxis so he's used to finding ways through vehicles. It just made me realise how much is packed into these cars, almost every bit of space is taken up.
  2. If anyone with an LS430 is considering fitting a camera (assuming you're not lucky enough to have a factory one) don't even consider it unless you have even more patience than a saint. When I fitted one to my MK1V it was fairly easy, but finding a way through from the boot to the inside of the cabin on a 430 is a nightmare, mostly due to the various bits and pieces behind the back seat. Lots of knuckle skin to be removed, followed by a stiff neck and aching back. Still, the image from a system that only costs £19 is just amazing.
  3. A great combination, blue with cream leather, always my favourite. Looking forward to the pics!
  4. I heard about this recently but forgot to look, thanks for posting. Excellent stuff!
  5. Well I did the sub today, but at least one front door needs doing. Shame the front covers don't just pop off in the same way.
  6. I've read a lot of posts where silicone has been used successfully. Have you done your door speakers a well?
  7. I'll be taking my sub cover off today as mine has the same problem, hopefully it'll be just easy to fix. By rubber cement, are we talking about the same stuff that bike inner tubes get repaired with?
  8. If anyone is considering a dual action polisher, I bought a GMC (a budget one) and I have to say it's excellent. I didn't know it when I bought it, but it turns out to be a best buy according to Autoexpress. It's about £85 and comes with three sponge polishing pads and a very decent zip up bag for storage. I went over the whole car today, soooo much quicker than doing it by hand! Being dual action it's brilliant for the novice such as myself.
  9. I poked my phone camera down this morning, you can see from this where the problem begins. The rust just continues to eat away until it makes a hole. I'll be changing mine very shortly.
  10. The eBay one just seems too cheap. With Eurocarparts it's easier to return a part if there's a problem. As far as I'm aware the sizes are all the same, although I did have to make a small and very easy modification with one small top hose, the overflow that you refer to. To gain good access to the sensors you really need the car up on a ramp, but the wheels can stay on. As the coolant is a Toyota product I'm certain you won't be able to get it elsewhere. And the transmission fluid you need is Mobil ATF 3309 (that's assuming your dip stick states Type 1V)
  11. I agree with all of that, applying some kind of grease around the sensors (cleaning them first) will make a big difference, and lubricating all the other moving parts connected to them. Eurocarparts are doing a radiator for the LS430 for £107 at the moment, and Toyota red coolant is about £25 for 5 litres. You will also need a very small amount of transmission fluid to top it up. Toyota would only sell me 5 litres so I bought 1 litre of the correct Mobil fluid from eBay for about £11. The correct type of fluid will be stamped on the tip of the transmission dip stick.
  12. I have to listen hard for it, and having said all that I've not noticed it at all for a couple of days. I suppose it has to run from time to time to make small adjustments.
  13. That's the one! I thought I'd lost it somewhere, that's the trouble with using my phone and not my home computer!
  14. Yet another question. When I bought the car the passenger side mirror was very dark. After checking with Lexus I discover that a new one (just the glass) is about £250!!! So I've got one coming from a breakers for a more sensible £35. As far as I'm aware the glass just comes out by pulling out the bottom first, does anyone know if this is correct, or do I need to take any more of the housing apart to get to the connections? Thanks
  15. I put a post on earlier, or I thought I did, but now I can't find it! Basically I was just wanting to know how often the pump comes on for the air suspension. Mine comes on for less than ten seconds first thing in the morning, most days but not every day. I'm guessing this is about normal?
  16. I just thought I'd ask this question although everything works fine. I hear the suspension pump run for a few seconds most mornings when I start up, I'm assuming this is normal for it to briefly run each day? It only runs for about 10 seconds.
  17. Has anyone tried one of these? I don't really want to have the car pulled apart to have a hands free system installed, and this looks OK from the reviews. Or maybe someone has a better product to recommend?
  18. Good stuff! I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that my old 93 LS, the first Lexus I had, just passed it's MOT with no advisories, 23 years old. You wouldn't get that from too many makes of car.
  19. I will be careful, I got the dual action because its less likely to damage the paint, but I realise much care is needed. I bought it partly to do the Volvo and my wife's car. The seagulls are nesting on our roof now so I'm expecting much dive bombing!
