  1. Good advice, if it's designed to be used it should be. They say air con should be used for a minimum of 30 mins per week, I keep mine on permanently. And John, I don't see any reason for buying a genuine part in this case, unless you phone Lexus and the price is comparable.
  2. I wouldn't use anything other than the recommended Toyota red. The one on eBay looks OK, certainly cheaper than the £25 I paid. The container is different but I'm guessing it's because its older. I would just make sure the cap hasn't been opened. BTW, where in Surrey are you?
  3. This was actually mentioned in a post last week. Honestly I wouldn't have even given 1k for it, soooo much rust on the doors.
  4. Advertised as having 76K but an MOT check shows it at 166K 8 years ago, unless I'm missing something. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2001-Lexus-LS-430-4-3-4dr-/252337071536?hash=item3ac07625b0:g:-9oAAOSwQjNW-t5I
  5. This is from a US forum and it shows the earlier LS but I'm guessing it's still in the same place. It's the one with the green plug.
  6. The wiring runs from the screen at the front all the way down to the centre brake light and then into the boot. It's then simply joined to the reversing light wire and the other to earth, a very simple system really. The wires run along inside the various plastic trims above the bottom sills,so that means it's only active when reverse is engaged. I didn't want to run wires along the top due to there being side air curtains. It means there are 4 wires to run the length of the car, two from the camera to the monitor, and the other two for the monitor's power. If the monitor was powered separately it would be on all the time, this way it's only on in reverse. I'm sure I could have explained that more simply!!
  7. I've just spoken to a very good mechanic explaining the issue, immediately he said CTS, so I would certainly be trying that.
  8. Now I know that a Lexus is a different beast to a Vauxhall, but my wife's car had an identical problem. We had the crankshaft position sensor replaced but it made no difference. After doing some research it pointed to the coolant temperature sensor. Some have said the CTS can be called the master sensor as it can affect many different areas in the engines running. I replaced the sensor, which on her car took 60 seconds and the problem was gone. A possibility? On the Vauxhall it didn't show any fault codes. It would always start from cold, and often, but not always, chug to a halt as it got hot. Once it cooled down it would start again. The part for an LS is about £10.
  9. My brother bought one of these for his jeepy type thing and I wasn't sure, but once fitted it really did look the biz. We'll be expecting to see photos of the end result of course. I'm trying to picture it in my mind and I reckon it'll really work. Your LS is the same year as my first one which is still going strong, I love the yellow front fog lights on the MK2
  10. Or me... Lots of MK3's on the market lately. The one on Autotrader looks good but very expensive.
  11. As you say they're only designed to fit one way. One possibility is that it was upside down and not laying flat, then just held in by its clips. In my last LS430 I was flashed (no not that!) by another motorist because one light was too high as the bulb had dislodged itself, presumably because it was fitted incorrectly in the first place, they are a pig to fit if you've never done it before.
  12. Good news, and strange news! I didn't think the bulb could go in upside down.
  13. My last pre facelift one was fine, but the present one is OK-ish, but the key certainly doesn't have the range that the first one had. A minor annoyance until I remember the days of having to always unlock using a key.
  14. He who hesitates etc, that'll teach you not to fall asleep in the daytime!
  15. Had a tweek of the knob but no volume, although no LS that I've ever had beeps when I lock it regardless of what I've tried. Back to the drawing board. The sensors seem to work OK but I need to be reversing while I'm sitting in the boot to get any real benefit from them!
  16. I thought the one on the right was for the alarm set beeper? I'm going outside now to have another look...
  17. Same car surely. Same seaside location, same high mileage, and lots of rust bubbles on the doors. Not that much of a bargain I don't think.
  18. My rear sensors were fitted from new, I have the info with the documents that came with the car, it's fitted with Denso sensors. The problem is the volume, it's so low I have to really listen hard for it. Today when I opened the boot to do some checking is was really loud, but in the boot! Why would there be a bleeper in the boot? I checked all sensors and they all work, although the two centre ones give a different tone to the outer ones. Not really a big deal but it would be nice to have them working properly, especially as I'll be parking it in central London soon! So does anyone know if they're adjustable?
  19. Here's a couple. I put it in the corner of the dash as I did with my last one, simply because there isn't anywhere else suitable. It's the only place that doesn't obscure vision (although it looks like it in the photo it doesn't) and as it's near the door mirror I naturally glance that way anyway.
  20. So what did you lubricate on the pump? I replaced my mounts and it made a lot of difference, but it's still not as quiet as it should be.
  21. It does but the wires have plugs attached which need a 12mm hole for them to pass through.
