  1. I bought this some years ago as I needed the slide pins which I couldn't get separately. It's for a front calliper. If it's of no use to anyone I'll bin it.
  2. I considered a Saab but reading about the many electrical problems put me off. In the end I went for the Volvo V70 facelift model, best car I've ever owned. When we drive down to Cornwall it'll always be in the Volvo rather than the Lexus, and the 50 mpg helps!
  3. On one of my previous LS400's both rear heat shields eventually came off, I ran it for two years with no apparent problems, although as stated, they are there for a reason. But then again so were the Dodo's wings!!
  4. Don't be silly of course he's real, I've been past his house in Port Isaac, and seen his face on mugs in the gift shop. What I don't understand is how they got an LS up and down that road, standing there it just didn't seem wide enough.
  5. It has a double sided sticky pad which generally doesn't last when the weather warms up, so it'll need something stronger in due course.
  6. Well it just shows how wrong you can be. The normal cleaners had no effect, so I thought I would take your advice before I bought new chrome. I didn't really think about using slightly more aggressive cleaners but I decided to try before I went shopping, and this is the result with T-Cut, amazing, so thanks for the tip.
  7. That would work better than a dark colour I think. I still prefer the one colour though. The LS 400 that I bought earlier this year (the one I kept for a week) didn't have the two tone for some reason.
  8. Just my opinion of course but the two tone paint does date a car, and to look right you'd have to do the door bottoms as well.
  9. Thanks Steve. And I have tried cleaning them but the chrome has completely gone. It's only a small part but I think it will make a big difference.
  10. I'm sure it's done to see if we're watching, it's now up for sale at 4.5K! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-LS430-PREM-PACK-4-3-V8-AUTO-2000-X-MOT-SEP-LOOKS-DRIVES-FINE-4500-/301908369505?hash=item464b242061:g:raUAAOSwzvlW9F4n
  11. Well it looks like just you and me! I'm of to buy some tomorrow and I may post some photos if it looks OK.
  12. The main advantage of a reversing camera is the peace of mind knowing there isn't a child or animal behind you, I wouldn't generally rely on it for parking, although it helps. On the LS400 there is a perfect spot for fitting the camera between the number plate lights, slightly better than mine. I then found that if you take off the boot top lining and feel around on the left hand side there's a hole in the metal work where you can go up to the parcel shelf to run the wires through, again, more difficult on the 430. The LS being a long car would necessitate the use of binoculars if you put a monitor on the parcel shelf. For me it just works out right that I engage reverse then have that quick glimpse of no obstructions behind, but I also glimpse at the monitor as I look at the door mirror.
  13. There's also an LS 430 on Gumtree with less than 50k on the clock, looks genuine and cheap. Going back to the original post, I notice the same car from Dudley is also advertised on Gumtree as a private sale!
  14. The thing to remember is Doc Martin had one, and he doesn't like anything, but if he didn't complain about his 460 it MUST be good!!
  15. The chrome strip on my rear bumper is a tad dull, has anyone tried replacing theirs, and are the ones that Halfords and the like sell worth using? It's not a big issue but if a self adhesive replacement would work I may as well make a nice looking car look even better! Thanks
  16. At least you weren't thinking about Mike in bed, just his car problem!! On the MK4 each cylinder has its own coil pack, whereas the MK2 has as you say one for each side.
  17. You may as well be speaking Esperanto there! I don't know if this is what you're referring to but a friend put one in his 53 reg Vectra but it doesn't produce the voltage needed from the reversing light for it to work. If that's the case then presumably the Lexus doesn't have it.....whatever it is!!
  18. I suppose tap water (especially where we live) has all sorts of minerals that could damage aluminium. The amount of limescale we get in Sussex is bad, you should see how our espresso machine blocks up with it!
  19. It's just a heat shield, they always come away like that. And welcome to the LOC! You could just replace it using bigger washers.
  20. No wonder we're all confused, Toyota told me it goes in as it is. Is it possible they produce concentrated and non concentrated? I'll stick with red wine, I know where I am with that, it goes in as it is, and slips down a treat! Actually I feel sorry for the Phil who originally asked the question, he must be wishing he hadn't bothered!!
  21. Well here's my little fly for the ointment. This is the coolant I bought from my local Toyota dealer.
  22. I believe they are the same for the whole period the 430 was made.
  23. Red is still easily obtained at Toyota dealers at £25 for 5 litres, all I was saying is that's what originally was used in the LS so that's what I'd be using still, in fact when I replace my rad in the next few weeks I'll be draining the system and refilling with red straight from the container as it states "pre mixed" that way I've kept things as they were designed to be...hopefully.
