    It's actually been that way with all my LS's apart from one very minor issue, and I don't say that to be smug, just to remind us how well built they are. I just looked online for the LS430 I sold last year, it failed the MOT last week....on two light bulbs! Not bad at 152K

    You certainly can't complain at that. I guess the extra gear gives you that edge with fuel economy. Even so, when people ask the size of the engine they always seem surprised when I tell them what it's capable of regarding fuel consumption.

    ....and no advisories. Something of a relief as it's the first one I've had with this car. Sadly, I don't think tomorrows dentist appointment will yield such positive results, and it will certainly cost more!

    I use the same Autoglym leather products, I have to say they are very good, not cheap, but worth it I think. I gave mine a good going over with Autoglym products a couple of days ago using using a dual action polisher, I don't know why everyone doesn't have one, it takes 10 mins to go over the whole car and the results are so much better than you get by hand.

    Welcome to the LOC Chris, your car looks superb! Last week on a trip to Gatwick mine showed an average of 33.2 on a clear run.

    Looks like it just came from the showroom, a fine example. Give some serious thought to having a new radiator to take away the risk of wrecking your transmission.

    Well done, sounds like you've got a genuine one, and they're thin on the ground! I managed a similar thing as I bought mine from a gent who was retiring, he owned it for over ten years, always kept it garaged and had a main dealer service every September. Enjoy!

    Well done, and could have been worse. Do you know exactly what the problem was as it's always good to have it documented on the forum just in case it happens to someone else?

    No smell in the car is "normal" unless it's self produced! It would suggest to me an exhaust leak. It's the cats that cause the sulfur smell so unless it's running badly I would be looking firstly for an exhaust gas leak rather than a blockage.

    I was talking to someone about this very thing a couple of days ago, regarding Lexus anyway. Nothing, and I mean nothing ever comes apart easily, even the simplest component seems to require the knowledge of a scientific mind to remove it!

    I'm glad you mention the beautiful scenery as we're renting a cottage near New Quay later this year and we've not been that way before.

    For your encouragement, I bought my first LS400 (a 93) for £1,500 and I owned it virtually trouble free for 5 years. Just recently, and out of curiosity, I did an MOT check and it's not only still going but passed without an advisory. That wouldn't happen with many other makes!

    Battery problems are well documented when it comes to the alarm going off, and it can do other strange things to the electrical system which resolve when a new one is fitted.

    I agree, an extinct aftermarket cable. The first photo I recognise as the wheels I had on my MK2, the second looks like their successor which I've seen on MK3's

    Reconnect and give it a few minutes before starting, shouldn't be any problems except for a radio code, not sure you'll have one, I haven't in 4 LS's. I would always have a battery fitted at Toyota or Lexus, they don't usually charge and your hands stay clean!

    Iridium plugs are the recommended, not cheap but best to stick with them. Every time we loose a dog we say never again, but we always do. Our dog ( a Greyhound) rarely settles down properly, even on a very long journey, let her get on the back seat of the LS and she's completely relaxed! Good luck with the new toy, you'll get to love it!

    Sounds a bit like a battery failure is it a decent one?

    This is just the front, the belt should still be in place running in the grooves so it's not actually the pulley as such. It says Denso which would confirm it's from the Denso AC compressor. I bought one from a breakers last year for £75.
