  1. This is something that I mentioned a few weeks ago, and a problem my wife had with her car. It is possible that the temperature coolant sensor is going south, a relatively cheap part so it may be worth changing. I think I mentioned in that previous post that some refer to it as the master sensor as it can have an effect on most areas of the engine.
  2. Great news, and I had the same just two weeks ago, no advisories.
  3. Sensors combined with a reversing camera is what I find so useful, especially when I'm squeezing into tight London spaces. My last MK4 had rear sensors that cost £13, I had the car for two years and couldn't fault them. It's a mystery to me why people pay more.
  4. Oh yes, my school reports were right, I must pay more attention!
  5. I've also read that old crud sticking to the other side can have that effect, but like everything on a Lexus it's not easy to get at. Maybe worth getting a pressure washer up there somehow? Other than that it is as simple as you say, just removing the old paint and re-painting.....if that's the problem. Is it front or rear?
  6. I think it's a great idea as well, as long as you have space. It's something I considered at one time but unfortunately I no longer have that space.
  7. I've had this problem with all my LS 400's and with my last LS430. As we've often commented on the forum, the parking brake is designed to function, using it regularly can only help to keep things moving rather than seizing up.
  8. I know very little about hybrids, nor would I want one, but the pictures above taken from the manual do seem to make it clear that it can be jump started, so why I'm wondering are people contradicting that?
  9. I feel your pain on this one! I had the same problem on an LS400. I bought a used key, had a new blank cut and went through the programming process. I tried several times, was about to give up but on the last attempt it worked. I don't know why but I can only assume it was my timings. Apparently you can't "un programme" by constantly trying so maybe give it a few more goes?
  10. So how does it feel with coilovers, did you do them yourself, was it easy and roughly how much?
  11. Welcome to the LOC, take your time and you'll find a good one!
  12. Watch if you can stand the intro with lots of shouty people! http://globalnews.ca/news/2773539/bear-breaks-into-car-in-west-vancouver/
  13. Well that's unanimous then! Plus I'd rather give my hard earned money to a small business anyway. Again, thanks all for your input, it's very much appreciated. Now it's time to watch the last episode of The Disappearance on iPlayer!
  14. It really does make you wonder if the whole thing is one big con. To be honest I've never taken a car to a main dealer for servicing in my 42 years of driving, except for my last LS which I took to Toyota, but they didn't do anything that an independent wouldn't do (apart from wash it....badly)
  15. Thanks all for your input which was just what I've been thinking, so thanks for confirming it. The Brighton garage (Grove Garage) is one that I've recommended, mostly because it was recommended to me by Scribe, another member, and they are the kind of garage that will try to repair parts rather than just replacing them. I think now that my Volvo is 8 years old it will also part company with main dealers exorbitant prices. Thanks again for the wise advice. Phil
  16. My car has had a Lexus main dealer service every year from new, the problem is that the nearest dealer is well over an hours drive from home, the last owner was only 10 mins from Lexus Guildford where he took it for the last 10 years. Should I be happy just to take it to my local Toyota dealer, or any decent independent? After all, it is 15 years old. Any thoughts boys and girls?
  17. One was a licence plate bulb which doesn't show a warning, but you'd think they would at least know if an indicator wasn't working! As you say, the brake light bulbs always show on the dash when they go but I'm not sure about the others, as like you, I don't remember one ever going. Still, I'm glad to see it's still on the road, it was a good car.
  18. We're looking forward to it. We're not going until September and the cottage is about 3 miles from New Quay in a fairly remote area. Not taking the Lexus because of the dog but the Volvo is great to drive...and practical!
  19. I think you're right as one was an indicator bulb. Bad joke or not its spooky he got the time right. If I find my dentist has a Chinese stand in tomorrow I'm off!
  20. Oh, very good, so good it took me time to work out if it was a serious question! As it happens it is 2.30!!
  21. I'm hoping for a slightly easier time at the dentist Mike as the nerve was removed 3 weeks ago, but boy, did it hurt! It was only a man's pride that kept the tears at bay.
  22. Fine and dandy Colin, apart from a 14 hour day working in London yesterday! I saw two LS 430's and one 400 but they're a rare sight here
