  1. Interestingly, only yesterday as I came out of a shop after buying some comfort food (sweets and crisps) a guy passing by said "what a lovely colour" followed by some other comment on how graceful it looked!
  2. I'm with you, I love estate cars and would only have a saloon as a toy. As for the Toyota Crown estate, I'd bite your hand off for it, superb! I like the look of the Datsun (although I wouldn't recognise it without rust holes!) and it's probably because I've always liked American cars (from the past that is) and as you say, easy to see the target....and, there's a Crown Estate on ebay!!
  3. Interesting that you mention the timing belt as that was one of my thoughts but I wondered how that would be possible, until you read about the lower engine bit. We're all waiting now for the result!
  4. Welcome to the LOC Steve, quite a few now from the Emerald Isle. My wife's veins course with Irish blood but we've not been back for some time due to the departure from this earth of most of her relatives!
  5. We've had this discussion in the LS forum and agreed that an LS estate would be brilliant, just like MB do with the E class. As it is I've got a Volvo estate for the practical side of things, but even that doesn't have the space of its predecessors.
  6. Thankfully I'm a believer in the "fairy tale" but I still wouldn't go cheap.
  7. You'd be surprised where people would like squiggyness, why, some would even pay for it!
  8. Like Steve, I'm wondering why they removed the "lower engine" to do the starter, it suggests that they didn't actually know where it was located. Unless you know, it's not generally where you would expect a starter to be which sounds possible in this case. Be very careful to keep records of all conversations and every scrap of information, just in case you need it, but let's hope you don't.
  9. Was it like it as soon as you picked it up from the garage? If so you need to get it back there and demand that it's put right, you have the law on your side.
  10. The thing is, you know a programme with Chris Evans in it is going to contain shouting, just like a programme with Popeye is going to contain spinach, so I don't know why everyone seems surprised. Anyway, after saying I wouldn't watch it again I did try a couple of episodes (whilst hiding behind the sofa) and I don't think it improved. In my opinion it should never have been made after the last crew were out, just like they should never have remade Reggie Perrin without Leonard Rossiter or Pink Panther without Peter Sellers....etc.
  11. Many recommend Falkens for the LS, I've had them and they don't seem better or worse than any other mid range tyre. I always use Black Circles and I bought some Goodyear tyres from them for my current LS, good wet grip and low noise, but opinions vary very widely!
  12. Glad you mentioned "decent jubilee clip" I bought some cheapies recently, hopeless, never buy cheap ones, I certainly won't again!
  13. 30 miles on half a tank, surely a Hummer does more than that.....something amiss there, or did you mean to say 300 miles home?
  14. Very nice. You need to get someone else to drive so you can enjoy the toys in the rear seats!
  15. Well done that man, the wheels make a big difference as well. The last picture is the same colour as mine, nice, but hard to keep clean! Enjoy!!
  16. As far as I'm aware it's probably in the same place as the 400 on account of it being more or less the same engine as the MK4
  17. I did actually change her temperature gauge sensor a few weeks before as that had also gone kaput! It's interesting that the cts is widely available (although I'm sure it fits other engines) which suggests its failure is not at all uncommon, otherwise they wouldn't be produced in large numbers methinks.
  18. The cps is a fairly common-ish problem and that was the first thing we replaced on my wife's car but the hopeless starting when hot continued, including breaking down in London! I changed the coolant sensor and immediately all was fine, and all for £9. The temperature gauge though still worked normally with the old sensor.
  19. Its not the thermostat, it's a small sensor that sits somewhere near the top middle of the engine. I changed my wife's one in 60 seconds but that was a Vauxhall! I'm assuming Lexus are the same, if so its not the same sensor that registers the temperature gauge on the dash. I've not done it on an LS but it looks easy enough. If you google it you'll be able to see what the part looks like, it's about £15-ish
