    I think we were probably expecting a colour coded hinged cap of some kind, which in all honesty would look a bit better than a piece of old kitchen foil like mine has.

    If it really is genuine it has to be worth it, or at least worth making an offer. It's one that has to be seen in the flesh because when a dealer says "Needs some TLC" it could mean anything. Lovely looking interior, get yourself down there!!

    Complicated enough to make you want to call the Samaritans sometimes!! I kept looking until I found the exact match, patience is a virtue and all that!

    I'm certain that only a MK4 key will do it. The numbers have to be the same, as in your photo, but there are also a few subtle differences with the buttons. If I remember correctly there are some with a triangle on one of the buttons and some without, just make sure it's identical. They do come up on eBay which is where I got mine for £25. Have you tried reprogramming your existing key just in case it's been corrupted in some way. And remember you can't unprogramme your car by trying the sequence many times so it's safe to keep trying.

    I very much doubt ATF as well, much more likely to be a sensor. Could even be the coolant temperature sensor, that's popped up a few times lately, especially as it happens when it warms up. Cheap and easy if it is.

    A couple of things to consider. The LS430 has much more to go wrong due to it being overloaded with gadgets. A good MK4 LS 400 (if you can find one) is probably the most reliable car you could ever own, absolutely bullet proof. The main thing is good history for either car. Good luck with your search, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

    I've done it myself on a MK4, it's fairly simple but you MUST get the same key, one close to it won't work, neither will one from the US, and it has to be a master key. Try someone breaking a MK4

    Doesn't that seem odd that a car as well built as a Lexus needs to have a piece prised off?

    Just checked mine, definitely nowhere to put a key that I can find. I've pulled all the handles out as well, nothing there!

    Never come across that one. Does the seat feel loose now, and is it definitely part of the mechanism and not just something left there?

    Goodyear Efficient Grip on mine, excellent tyres and under £100 fitted from Black Circles. Avons on my estate car, also excellent.

    Welcome to the LOC Dave. As the Lexus is less common compared to other cars replies can take longer, the sportcross of course is even less common. Hopefully someone will give you some info soon!

    Presumably the AA man turned a blind eye to the body in the boot? A couple of years ago I was driving my wife to London for a hospital appointment when the car broke down (not the Lexus!) The AA arrived within about 20 mins, got the car going, and because he knew we had an important appointment he followed us all the way to the hospital just in case, about 5 miles. I've got nothing but praise for AA patrolman (and presumably women)

    Excellent job, that'll look the business when the tips are on, very tidy job! My LS430, being a previous face lift model doesn't have visible exhausts but there's plenty of room behind the bumper so that's a job in the pipeline.

    We've just been going through the first few series of 24 all over again, and I can't help thinking Toyota must have had some sort of financial input! Lexus cars feature throughout, including the IS, SC430 and the LS430, also some 4wd vehicles that we don't have here, but they have the LS430 grille and headlights. Also the name Lexus is mentioned a few times. Interestingly though, it's always the baddie's who drive them!

    Continuing from a previous post about removing rear badges, here's a warning. I started doing mine today, starting with the LS letters. I heated it up and just peeled the corner away to find that they are held in place with pegs! So unless you want to fill in the holes and have a respray you may want to think again. Fortunately mine re-stuck when it cooled down. That was close!

    Really, just 2 litre, I always assumed there must be much more. Well I'm about to become a 64 year old chav so you beat me to it. The thing is, the LS is about as un-chavy as you can get, so I don't think the title will stick.

    What happened to Alan Partridge's right glove? I also love the look of that Peugeot, not often I would say that about a French car! What have they got under the bonnet?
