  1. Well I did mine today, wash dry and Autoglym wax, looked the biz, even attracting admiring comments from people going past, but..... It's now chucking it down... again!
  2. I've noticed how most of my "automatic" renewals can usually be found for less on a comparison site, but with the same company! On another note my AA renewal came a couple of weeks ago, when I told them I'm leaving they lowered it by £40.
  3. It was my pleasure my man, and the greyhound sends her regards too! It was also a reminder to me of what a fab looking car the LS400 is👍
  4. A very good deal you've got there. Something that seems to help with my insurance is having my wife as a named driver, I'm told it lowers the premium, odd really as she would never drive such a big car!
  5. Assuming it's the same as the pre-facelift LS it should have it stamped on the tip of the dipstick, mine says type 1V. That's of course if the later one has a dipstick.
  6. Well I agree, it seems far too much. All you need is a socket to release the tension. To be honest, if you remove the black plastic air intake ducting from the top (two screws) I reckon you can change the belt in less than 5 minutes, not even time for your tea to get cold! Just make a sketch of where the old one goes before you take it off. I only changed mine as it was squealing a bit when first started in cold weather.
  7. I changed my auxiliary belt a few weeks ago, it must be one of the simplest jobs on these cars, literally takes minutes. I bought a German made Continental belt for about £19.
  8. Of course you have to be over 50 but as I posted elsewhere this evening my premium is much lower this year with Saga at £165, that includes ncp and uninsured other driver. I've also tried Adrian Flux and been well disappointed. So this year I've insured my LS and my Volvo for a combined £350, both fully comp etc so not at all bad I don't think.
  9. i certainly agree about postcodes but mine has gone down a fair bit since last year but I haven't moved. I also think Malc is right, they know I won't claim with such an old car, and they show its market value as £1,500 and they will happily write it off with a small scratch in the paint work. Still, if I don't have an accident I'm more than happy with the price this year.
  10. Every year I seem to read about the rising cost of insurance but I find it goes down! Iv'e just insured the LS with Saga for £165, seems like a good deal to me.
  11. I would have thought a rack from a breakers would be your best bet. There have been some MK4's breaking lately. I can't help thinking that trying to get one reconditioned would cost more. They're generally very reliable steering racks so getting one from a breakers may not have too much risk.
  12. I know it's a completely different car but after I bought my Volvo I started reading reviews and looking at YouTube. Had I looked first I may well have had second thoughts. Thankfully I didn't and I couldn't be more pleased with it! The same goes for most reviews, it's just someone elses opinion, and I've found they often don't agree with mine so enjoy it.
  13. Certainly having the car jacked up with the engine running can cause problems with air suspension, and as suggested disconnecting the battery should reset it. If not my money would be on the other suggestion which is a height sensor.
  14. It seems very strange that a car using that much coolant isn't showing obvious signs of leakage, 10 litres over a couple of months is a lot! If it isn't leaking out with visible signs either on the engine or on the ground, the assumption would be that it's finding its way out via the head gasket. It may be worth having a pressure test to determine whether that's the case. Presumably the exhaust doesn't produce lots of white smoke/steam?
  15. Bentley Continental Rolls Royce Silver Shadow Aston Martin Vanquish Chevrolet Impala Reliant Robin Moon buggy....And then the alarm went off and I woke up! But seriously, too many to mention, but my very worst ever was an NSU and my best was a 69 Chevrolet Chevelle with rare right hand drive...Oh how I wish I still had it, the Chevy that is! No idea why that came out twice, posting from a mobile goes wierd sometimes!

  17. Well done that man, you won't be sorry! The exhaust blow is probably from the very common "Y" piece. Lovely looking car.
  18. In my humble opinion I think air suspension was a complete waste of time. In all honesty I can't say it feels any better than my MK4 did. The only good point is that it adjusts depending on weight etc, and I do think it corners better. Apart from that mine will be fitted with springs should a major problem arise, that's assuming I keep the car of course.
  19. The air pump is not a particularly difficult job, you can pick used ones up for £100. I've had mine for about a year now and the pump has always made a slight rumble when it kicks in, but its never got any worse. And you're right, the pump does come on when on a camber etc, it also comes on when you slow down at lights etc after traveling at speed as it automatically lowers at speed to make it more aerodynamic. Also as you say it adjusts depending on the weight it carries.
  20. Good advice from everyone. Last year I bought my Volvo from a main dealer which meant I paid top price, for that reason I expected everything to be right and put right which it was, including a new spoiler and some paint chips. I would expect as much, if not more from Lexus.
  21. Ooh I like that! Why are our mpv's so dull when that looks soooo good.
  22. And do they self retract, do they have very, very soft closers?
  23. Maybe, although I thought the same about my LS430 but people just didn't bother going to look, my gain though!
