  1. I bought a Ford Galaxy years ago but found the wheel nut key missing. I got a mechanic to remove them and replaced them with ordinary nuts. I tend to do it on most of my vehicles, especially as they can be hard to undo sometimes.
  2. The transmission failure is quite rare. I would just fit a new radiator and be done with it, that's what I did when I bought mine. I did fit an oil cooler to my last one, but changing the radiator is sooo much easier, took me just over an hour. I did very briefly go back to an LS400 last year but it just felt aged by comparison. That wouldn't of course stop me if a really nice genuine one came knocking on my door!
  3. If I wanted (and could afford) a car that was exciting to drive, and comfortable, it would be a Nissan GTR. I drove one around the Dunsfold circuit a couple of years ago, the only car that has ever made me shout out WOW! 0-60 in 3.5 seconds with launch control engaged!
  4. I agree with the above although my keyless function is fine. The facelift does have a sharper front. Some of the later pre facelift cars have the wood rather than aluminium trim, I think from 2002, just before the facelift. I think the aluminium looks nice as long as it's scratch free. Like any car though, much is down to care and maintenance.
  5. However, if you had an LS your rear window would always have smears on the inside as it's simply impossible to clean. The 400 was bad, but the 430 is far worse.
  6. Stopping at a customer's house on the way home to do a little job on their gate, got out my cordless driver and found no bit in it. Thinking about going back to my workshop 5 miles away, then I remembered the tool kit! Saved my bacon!
  7. I agree, I think you'd be bonkers to by a car with only a month left. No Lexus is "cheap" to repair due to the cost of parts. You could find yourself owning a money pit!
  8. Something has to be loose/worn/ not fitted properly. The fact that it makes one clonk when you apply the brakes suggests it. In many cars the wheel holds the disc on, sometimes there's a countersunk screw.
  9. He's obviously being too "Independent" in his thinking. Clearly a "Mail" I prefer to be an "Observer" with this thread!
  10. As I don't buy papers but look at the news online, would it work if I scrunched up my PC and used that? Believe me, I'd love to scrunch up my PC!!
  11. Excellent, well done. Just goes to show what you can save by avoiding the main dealer. Great price for the alternator as well!
  12. Odd isn't it, warnings for tail and brake lights, nothing for side lights. Maybe it's done on purpose to get people like me to check first instead of being complacent!!
  13. .....but only on side light bulbs! No advisories either so that can't be bad. Strange though the way it has to be noted as a fail, even though the tester replaced the bulbs. My fault of course for not checking properly.
  14. Have you looked to see if the serpentine belt is worn? They can give a slight slip under hard acceleration if they're on the way out.
  15. Pirelli on my Volvo when I bought it, absolutely awful, changed to Avon, excellent. Part worn? I'd rather walk!
  16. I've had soooo many cars over the years but remembering the reg numbers is hard. My brother on the other hand remembers most of his. I'll ask him, I reckon he'll be sad enough to remember some of mine!
  17. Racking my tiny brain to remember reg numbers, but my 93 LS is still going strong!
  18. I actually saw one in a Wickes car park last week which is what brought it to mind. Mine, I have to say, was awful.
  19. That's true of course. I'm referring more to the "extras" cars and general blackness of most things four wheels. The Wolsley and Westminster just remind me of all the early black and white police dramas. Evenin all.
  20. I'll tell you what was fun, my VW Variant. The fun part was seeing if it was possible to drive more than 10 miles without something else falling off!
  21. And we wouldn't dare put our lights on until absolutely necessary to save the battery. If it did loose power it took a drive to Lands End to charge it, which of course you couldn't do without breaking down! The exception being my 59 Beetle. It would start first time in mid winter, even with a broken choke cable.
  22. Because young man I am that older one! They used to film Dixon in our area of London, my older brother was paid a shiny silver coin for standing against a road sign to hide it whilst filming took place. I do hasten to add, my Wolsley was very old when I bought it!!
  23. Correct, my Wolsley 6/110 had a starting handle and it got used regularly! And I never once broke any bones using it. It was black with red leather and made me feel like I was in a Z cars scene....or Dixon of Dock Green for the even older ones!
  24. I couldn't open the link, but this was like the one I had, although not the SS as this one is, same colour though.
  25. For me it only ever was, and ever will be a 69 Corvette Stingray. No other car would do. I once owned a 69 Chevy Malibu in a rare right hand drive, oh how I wish I still had it, especially as it only cost me £150!
