  1. Did you have an additional transmission cooler fitted for towing? Maybe not so common here but a lot of American cars have them, even on the big V8's. Your caravan looks like the size of a small village!
  2. When I bought my car 18 months ago I negotiated a good price because the suspension pump was tad noisy. I finally got around to having one from a breakers put on, easy job, £70 part and £40 labour. When I picked it up afterwards the steering had a slight wobble at low speeds. I took the front wheel off today and found it binding, but not all round. When you take a wheel off the front you also release the disc. I little bit of crud had got behind the disc, only a tiny bit, but it prevented the wheel from sitting flat on the hub. So it confirms what we all know, always make sure the mating surfaces are clean, it's amazing how just a tiny bit of flaky rust can have such a bad affect on it. Wobble free now!
  3. I think it would be impossible, the motors would still be needed. The thing is, if something is manufactured, it must be possible to take it apart again. I've just taken an old suspension compressor apart, purely out of interest, it's really a very basic thing, just a little piston attached to a motor. I know the rest of the setup is more complicated, but the actual motor is basic. If anyone has an old steering motor I'd love to have a go at taking it apart.
  4. If it's the Jag you may as well buy a Nissan Cumquat, they look the same. I have seen your name appear on the Volvo forum in the past, and let's be honest, it's the better looking of the bunch!......
  5. I don't see why an LS400 wouldn't outlive most of us if it was well cared for, I really don't believe there's anything out there like it. As for the Austin Cambridge, I used to do mini cabbing in London with one. A great car "in its day" white with black leather. It seemed huge at the time, it had a steering wheel the size of a bus!
  6. I've not seen this before but it backs up what I was originally saying about it not just being a car in its day!
  7. No, definitely Clarkson. Just looking it up, it seems to be Jeremy Clarkson thriller DVD. There are some posts on this forum from 2008 but sadly no vid available now on YouTube.
  8. I'm not sure if it was TG. He basically shot it to peices with an automatic rifle. I did watch it on YouTube though.
  9. I also remember Clarkson destroying a perfectly good LS400 simply because everything still worked, the engine was whisper quiet and wafted you along in comfort. Therefore, in his own words "it's just so boring"
  10. We go to Chelsea often, and it's not hard to see how they got the name!
  11. A friend of mine has one, it's OK-ish, but the quality of the internal trim is noticeably poorer.
  12. In all honesty the equipment on the very first LS is superior to his Range Rover. Obviously he's got Bluetooth and other up to date gizmos, but as far as refinement goes there simply is no contest. At least I've managed to educate a non Lexus person to the reality of it!
  13. He didn't offer to let me drive his, but just as well, one doesn't want to lower one's standards does one!
  14. This was the comment I got today at a place where I was working. The owner, who owns a 4 year old Range Rover, said the Lexus LS was a top car in its day! I said it's still a top car today and invited him to take mine for a drive as he's never even sat in one. He came back saying it's amazing. He said its got gadgets that his hasn't got and was commenting for some time about the ride quality. So he had to admit, its wasn't just a good car in its day!!
  15. I think it would be worth replacing it again with a good quality one, at least it would rule that out.
  16. It could also be the fuel filler cap, although not so likely if you had a rush of air when you unscrewed it. It the cap isn't seating properly and tightened correctly it can cause running problems.
  17. The seller is also open to offers! Just to put a damper on it. A couple of years ago there was an LS400 on eBay just 30 mins from me, it looked so good in the photos I'd more or less decided to buy it. When I got there and saw it in the metal I wondered if it was even too much of a wreck for banger racing.
  18. I was only curious, but not enough to want one. The part about "sharing data" puts me right off!
  19. The AA are offering this to members for £29, I just wondered if it's worth having. If you don't know what it is it's on YouTube, but using my phone I can't work out how to include the link!
