Welcome on board! Yours is the same colour as my previous LS430, it almost looked black in some lights. Hopefully you'll have long and happy motoring from it. Being able to do your own repairs is a real bonus!
Btw, did you find it easy to remove the headlights?
Early today I was stuck in really bad M25 traffic, but it was muggy, so I wanted my air con running. I couldn't open the window because I was surrounded by lorries pumping out diesel. I wonder how an electric car would cope with two hours of air con.
Although mine is an LS430, the engine is basically the same as the MK4 400. This morning I had the misfortune of taking a couple of people to Stansted airport at 4am. A six hour round trip, not sparing my right foot, and the computer showed an average of 30.5. You can't complain about that can you! It may have been even better if it hadn't been for the accident on the QE2 bridge causing traffic mayhem.
Hi Mark, you have to pull the glass up really hard, it feels like it will break but it doesn't (hopefully). I did mine last year so I know how horrible it feels as you increase the pressure. The main thing is to apply even pressure with two hands about a quarter inch in from each end. Make that a quarter of the way in from the end, not a quarter inch! That's what happens when you use a smartphone!
Be thankful it's under warranty! A problem with many vehicles with air suspension sadly. There's an S class Mercedes parked near my house that always goes right down overnight. It all seems to be pot luck, some last 250k (and more) others 60. Did yours get gradually worse or just suddenly happen?
About 4 years ago I was driving my wife (in her car) for an important hospital appointment in London. We broke down just on the outskirts and called the AA. The AA man got it going and then followed us all the way from Barnes to Chelsea so we could be sure to get to the hospital. Quite honestly that occasion alone convinced me never to be without cover.
On this occasion practicality has won as my estate has a built in dog guard, and being a greyhound she needs lots of space! I may consider getting one for shorter trips though. Thanks for the link.
I always enjoy Cornwall, regardless of the weather. I'd love to take the Lexus but we have the dog. Anyway, you know what it's like parking an LS in Mousehole, especially in the harbour carpark. I did it once in my LS400, that was scary.
And so it is. We were there last September, all along the coast to Aberystwyth and on to Snowdonia. I'm a Londoner but I'd rather peel my own fingernails off than live there again.
Sorry to rub it in Mike but we're also staying in Mousehole! We've got three nights at the Old Coastguard, do you know it? Not the cheapest place but we have a room overlooking the sea out to St Michaels Mount (It wasn't named after you was it?!!)
Russian roulette though without cover. I've always gone for the full package, especially as we travel down to the far west of Cornwall a fair bit. Also with relay I can always get my car back to a trusted mechanic if need be. I have gone for years without calling them but sods law would likely come knocking if I cancelled!
They're all sneaky. I've been with the AA for years and every year without fail the price goes up, and every year I phone to complain/cancel and they reduce it by as much as 30%. I would never go for automatic renewal of anything any more.
I've actually got one of those in my Volvo estate, it's a bit more substantial as it cost £240 but it's brilliant. As well as keeping the carpet clean, the flap comes down to protect the bumper paint, I wouldn't be without it. Plus it's easy just to sweep the back or wipe with a damp cloth.
I do wonder though just how necessary a service is when low mileage is covered. I bought my Volvo from a main dealer with 33k, and although the previous owner only covered a maximum of 3k a year, it always had a main dealer service, without fail in September. That means in 6 years it had 6 services but only covered an average 12 months of miles according to the service schedule for a 2.4 deisel.
