    Does this sound possible? I usually manage to get 31 mpg on a long journey, but on Saturday morning I drove up to Yorkshire (280 miles) and as I wasn't in a rush I took my time. When I checked the figures it showed 36.5 mpg. I re-set it and again it was 36 mpg. If that's anywhere near accurate, I think that's amazing. That was travelling at between 65-75 without any hold ups and one passenger. On the way back today I accidentally filled up with Shell V Power and only managed 32 mpg.

    I'm with you on this, the system really does stink! I passed my test in 1972, I've never had an accident and my premiums are all fairly low. I know If I was in a no fault prang they would rocket, unfair.

    As we've often said, use the parking brake always, that way it keeps parts moving.

    This has been discussed at some length in the past with many conflicting views. In the end I simply phoned Lexus to get the correct info, which for me was red, ready mixed. I'd phone, just to be sure, although you do have the same engine as me.

    Of course they use fairy dust here in the south, did you not know that? It's only because the roads here are paved with gold.

    So would I be right in saying that the MK4 on eBay being sold by "Lexuslegend" is the new name for "Chap?" The clue I would think is in the use of the word "fine" which seems to be his favourite word. Ironic really as he had to pay one for dodgy dealing!

    My wife won't drive a big car which is a shame as I never get to appreciate the massaging rear seats!

    Just out of curiosity I looked on eBay, most are from the States, including a bottom hose for £756 (plus postage of course) I think the main dealer advice is best. Most on eBay seem to be about £25 plus shipping. I'm not sure I'd drive too far with a leak as it will affect the system if it's not under the correct pressure.

    I see you've got a separate transmission cooler for towing. A good sign, it means someone bothered!

    Well done you! I once read that private carparks that issue fines aren't enforceable by law, not sure how true that is. I'm glad you won, some wouldn't bother, but I know I would!

    Have you tried Lexus Breakers? They break all models. 01254 301021. Or failing that, there is a MK4 being broken on eBay.

    I know it's a different car, but when I removed the alarm fuse from my Volvo it knocked out the centre console, heating, radio and the display. I guess you've checked the fuses as you've mentioned that.

    I was charged £40 for replacing my compressor which I was more than happy with. I dismantled my old one as I was interested to see how it worked. Apart from the air receiver, which is basically a cylinder with a fine filter, it has a piston and con rod with a plastic compression ring. Fairly basic really. So there are areas that wear, which although not serious, they can cause noise, as I discovered, so it's not always the rubber bushes causing the problem. The rumble from the compressor was the only negotiating point when I bought mine, which could have put me off buying it, but as I now realise, it's not a big problem.

    Good point, although the seller says they've been driving it weekly to keep things working!

    Good to see some decent photos of the part! I had the same with mine, so I had the bushes replaced but the pump still rumbled. I bought a new one from a breakers which still rumbles a bit, but it's much better. Just out of interest I connected the old one to a battery, it's not surprising they can be heard though, they make a right old racket when they're uncovered. They do kick in often, always when passengers get in, and when slowing down from high speed.

    The only way to really tell is to go and look at it. I can't decide whether the description would put me off, or whether they're just being very honest! It is a fairly long list of minor things though. If I had to travel any distance I personally would think twice.

    Always seems like a real insult when people like us have been driving for probably more years than the people who run these courses! The system is really unfair, at 5 miles over the limit a first warning would surely be the answer. Different of course if you were doing silly speeds.

    We've had this father and car discussion many times. I've told her that I need to be able to trust her completely. For that reason, I may park her round the corner rather than on the drive for the night, but I won't give her a second chance if she messes it up!

    I don't know how many cars of this age would look as good as a Lexus. Mine is coming up to 17 and still looks amazing with a bit of effort. This is the result of yesterdays clean up.

    I'd be happy to fit aftermarket parts if they came from say Blueprint or similar, but I'd be wary of parts from ebay or the like when it comes to steering.

    I have one "just in case" Apart from that, some friends of ours were staying at a remote cottage in Cornwall where we go, and it's hard to find. So I recorded the route there and put it on an SD card for them! A great little bit of technology.
