  1. It's always interesting to read about the comfort of other models not being as good as the LS. In all honesty I've not driven anything, even very modern that comes close. But then it was always their flagship which had ridiculous amounts of money put into it. I wonder how the very latest LS would compare in terms of comfort compared to a 20 year old one. I can't see how it could be much better unless a pair of robotic hands massaged your shoulders!
  2. That's a great system for parking etc but I meant more like my system where a light blinks on either door pillar to warn you of a vehicle/bike etc approaching.
  3. It's that sound that even the people sitting downstairs hear!!
  4. Don't Lexus fit blind spot cameras on any of their models? My Volvo has them and they're brilliant.
  5. I found the Denso blades suffered from bum in the bath syndrome almost immediately, but the Bosch ones are silent and fit well.
  6. I had Denso wipers last time, hopeless in my experience. I then changed to Bosch when Eurocarparts had a wiper sale. £11.50 for the pair, brilliant wipers!
  7. You're as bad as my wife, she'll spot bad grammar, typos and incorrect punctuation from a mile away. It's a daunting experience typing when she's watching over me! And now she's got me at it!
  8. My dog loves lying on the back seat of my LS! Not the most practical car if you've got dogs though, so probably the right decision. I bet you'll be back though!
  9. Glad you got to the bottom of that one without the need to spend money. It's surprising how little it takes to run a battery down. It means you can afford to get me something bigger for Christmas now!
  10. That's certainly true. I changed just one and it looked so different I had to change them both. I think the Lexus eBay shop do them for a decent price, as do Halfords. I know you can get really cheap ones, but as fitting them is awkward I personally would fit some decent ones.
  11. I need some rear brake pads, has anyone bought the mintex ones and found them OK? Or maybe Pagid at about the same price?
  12. That's more or less what I did with mine and it works a treat.
  13. I understand your point, but the transmission functions at its best when it's at the correct temperature, which I'm assuming Lexus engineers took into account. I found my cooler got very, very hot in traffic as it wasn't cooled enough by the fans, if at all.
  14. Well you've been a busy boy, and my lunch has got cold reading your epistle! Well done for taking the plunge, it may encourage others to do the same. And welcome to the LOC!
  15. That really makes so much sense, and of course it's common sense. To run a luxury car and not expect to have to dig deep in your pocket from time to time would be daft. The difference being that Lexus are so well built that those digging deep days may well be less than with most other makes. I realise that it could change at any moment, but in my 9 years or so of LS ownership (400 & 430) my "unexpected" bills have only reached less than £1,000 in total. One of those was starter motor failure, the other a height sensor. In nine years I think that's brilliant.
  16. I've done the oil cooler bit on my previous one, and compared to the ease of changing the radiator I wouldn't bother (unless I was planning on towing) Here's a reminder of where the problem begins, corrosion and two O rings at the trans fluid union.
  17. I'm not sure how easy it would be to know if the transmission has been contaminated unless it felt like there was a fault. Maybe oil deposits in the expansion tank. Remember though, it is rare, although having been bitten by it I understand your concerns. I bought my radiator for less than £100, but it needed a slight modification. A genuine Lexus one is about £350 and takes only an hour to replace, it's also a good opportunity to put in fresh coolant.
  18. I agree with Mark, get a good one, replace the radiator as an insurance. The suspension can fail on either model regardless of mileage. The transmission failure is still rare though, I wouldn't worry too much. I'm not sure there's much you can do to prevent suspension problems, maybe buying one that has been garaged may help?
  19. Well, having read the article I'm now about to go naked into my local Greggs. Should I encounter any problems your name will be put forward as the one who instigated such behaviour in front of the sausage rolls!
  20. I really like the colour as well, that's but it though! Interesting when you read the comments on the link, everyone seems to hate it. If I wanted to get attention I'd just walk around naked, although that would get a magistrates attention as well.
  21. Even though it's time for a cam belt it looks an absolute gem. If it's as good as it seems it must be worth the asking price. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201711211441533?make=LEXUS&model=LS 400&logcode=p
  22. Looks good, I like it!
  23. I would seriously consider that if it wasn't so far away. One of my favourite colours as well!
  24. Of course in town I average 18. Still, to actually be able to achieve mid 30's with the right conditions is pretty amazing I think.
