  1. I know we've discussed the hybrid, and I'm still giving it some thought (waiting for dealers reply)but what are your thoughts on this? It's low mileage, not far to go, and lower tax. And the MOT history is good. https://www.autovillage.co.uk/used-car/lexus/gs/mtz_85923_45813649
  2. I've looked at buying a car from Ireland, especially as my wife is Irish so it'll be an excuse for a visit. The problem is distance just to view, and the paperwork plus tax (I think). It doesn't seem to be straightforward, unless it's from NI.
  3. Just out of interest I've checked the insurance cost, £225 fully comp. Not bad at all!
  4. Thanks John, I'm going to phone about the link the other John sent me tomorrow. It's about 80 miles away so could be worse.

Have a word with Martin on Wednesday when he hopefully comes up to Yorkshire with mine, he may fancy taking a quick profit! 😉
  6. Thank you all for the info. I won't rush into anything, apart from a phone call to Newbury in the morning. Just one more question (for now) how reliable are the electric motors on the hybrid? I'm going to really miss my LS, so whatever I replace it with needs to be a worthy substitute.
  7. The boot space isn't really a problem, I'm just thinking that the non hybrid would be a bit less complicated when something does go wrong. A bit of thinking to do.
  8. Now you've got me really thinking!! I may just give them a call tomorrow.
  9. So how reliable is the hybrid system as it gets to this age/mileage? And what are you looking at cost wise when the batteries go kaput?
  10. That does look very nice but I didn't really want a hybrid.
  11. This is about an hour's drive from me, any thoughts? https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201710130243228?make=LEXUS&model=GS 300&logcode=p
  12. Martin, I've made a special appointment for you to see my doctor on Wednesday. If you decide the car is not for you he said he'll examine your head for you! Look forward to meeting you.
  13. I DEFINITELY don't want to feel him!
  14. Er, no, but I feel like I know him!
  15. Pardon me for skipping across the void/chasm to the "sporty" section, but I can't help thinking Big Rat should be nominated for the forum's comedian award!
  16. I'm planning a trip with my wife for the Spring. We're planning to drive to Vienna with a stop on the way, and if all goes well slipping into Italy. Probably 10 days in all. My fuel economy may not be so impressive as I'll be taking the LS430 (assuming it isn't sold by then) or a GS300 if the former has a new home. Common sense tells me to take my diesel Volvo, but what does common sense have to do with it I ask myself!
  17. I think Mike is saying that the cold weather zaps a car's battery very quickly, which is an important point.
  18. If it is the starter contacts it will gradually get worse, eventually it won't turn at all. I can't remember now exactly what they charged me, I think it was about £250 labour and parts were £13. The starters themselves seem pretty tough, just a shame the contacts aren't! Obviously you need to make sure it's not something silly like a loose battery terminal.
  19. Sounds like starter motor contacts, fairly common on the LS. Cheap parts but sadly a long job.
  20. My worst by far, a toss up between an NSU Printz or VW Variant, but I think the NSU wins. A gallon of oil just to get it up to Newcastle Upon Tyne from London. My best, probably my Volvo 740GLE, what an amazing bomb proof car that was, it never ever let me down in several years of ownership.
  21. From what I've been reading here the boy racers are in fact you lot!
  22. Sooo many bad boys, and there's me thinking a Lexus is a gentleman's car!
  23. There's an interesting YouTube video about the launch of the LS430 in 2001 with Chris Goffey where he states that you quickly find yourself doing instant disqualification speeds without realising how you got there, and I can certainly relate to that!
