  1. After 10 days, 7 countries and nearly 2,400 miles I've got it out of my system! The GS performed superbly, and Saltzburg to Vienna showed an average of 43.5 mpg. Most times it was 38-39. My only problem now is tackling the bugs. Any advice would be welcome.
  2. And with their build quality they can still be enjoyed for years to come!
  3. I know, I know! At least I can sleep well knowing I've sold good ones.😴😴
  4. You can tell I'm going all wistful now can't you!
  5. I think I have to go a step further and say they perfected the comfort with the 430, with two double lumbar settings and an extending cushion for the driver. It really has to be experienced to appreciate it.
  6. The leather in the 400 series was just fantastic, and I think the MK4 was the best. The seats are just so comfortable.
  7. Well I've parted with 4 LS's now and it's not a pleasant experience. It really is so strange the way they get deep under your skin. I've been driving since 1972 and nothing has come close. The GS is nice, much easier to take roundabouts with enthusiasm, a lovely cabin and spritely, but its not got that LS magic.
  8. I'm more than happy to try "cheap" parts if they're easy to get to, I certainly wouldn't buy them for the steering though. I haven't ruled out returning to an LS430 at some stage, even though I said I wouldn't! I'll see how the GS performs with our trip to Vienna next week. If all goes well it may be a keeper.
  9. I had the same on my GS, VSC check due to a duff sensor. I read much about the dangers of buying non OEM so I bought a Denso one from Rockauto. A third of dealer price but nearly two weeks to get.
  10. I glazed over while they did mine, I must have read the poster for all climate tyres 30 times....and still didn't take it in!
  11. Interestingly my first LS430 pulled to the left. I had the four wheel alignment done, which wasn't cheap, but it didn't make any difference. It's also not the first 430 I've read about with a pull to the left. It'll be interesting to hear if it works on yours.
  12. I agree, and we all have different opinions and experiences. My Volvo came with good tread Pirelli tyres but tramlined really badly to the point I had to change them. My GS has nearly new Michelins but they're fairly noisy. Eventually we find a tyre that suits us well, for me it's Avon. I also like the way they're made in the UK!
  13. For what it's worth I have Avons on my Volvo. Without a doubt the best tyres I've ever had. The wet grip it just amazing, I'd never buy anything else.
  14. My understanding is that it has to go to a main dealer after so many failed attempts. Hopefully I'm wrong!
  15. Well you were sensible enough to keep yours Mike. I know we've all said it, but it still amazes me the way the LS400 just goes on and on. One has appeared here recently which I've seen a few times, big wheels, big exhausts and a few touches that wouldn't appeal to everyone, but I must say it looks good, and sounds fantastic.
  16. Mike (Bluesman) can tell you how nice it was on account of him being a passenger in it once. I see its got one bid. It'll be interesting to look up the MOT in a couple of months.
  17. The fact they're not putting it through an MOT makes you wonder what else could be wrong. Having said that, the guy from Halifax that I sold it too was a decent sort so good luck to him if he can get that kind of money for it.
  18. Sorry to hear your tales of woe. I've always told myself an LS430 would be as far as I'd go before I couldn't sleep at night, at least with what they cost you could just walk away with the worst case scenario and not loose a fortune. Hopefully it'll be something simple.
  19. I was in London on Monday and although the traffic moved well I only managed 19
  20. As I recall the disc just comes away when the wheel is removed (front anyway). So important to clean the hub with a wire brush so the mating surfaces are flat.
  21. I'm glad to hear it young man. Come to think of it my LS400 was sold to a man in Yorkshire as well.
  22. The bushes arrived today but sadly I still have the "knock". A strange one this, no-one can find anything wrong/worn. Still, at least I have new links and bushes! I can only think shock absorbers next, although they feel fine over bumps. Maybe I'll just live with it for a bit.
  23. Well done you, it makes my back ache just thinking about it!
  24. Stupidity really! I wanted an LS430 which cost me 3 times as much with higher mileage, not a patch on the LS 430 I sold this year, the sale of which could also be considered foolish. Still, I'm enjoying the GS and can't see me going back to the LS fold..... maybe.....
