  1. There you go, now you're the authority on the subject and others will be asking you (with replies hopefully!) Always a good feeling to do it yourself.
  2. Yes, a D5 with 185 bph, it does pull well and a great cruiser. It's always the car of choice when we drive down to Cornwall with the dog.
  3. V70. I bought it nearly 3 years ago for 9k, still only done 53k, not bad for a 10 year old!
  4. Same with me, I'm a self employed carpenter but I don't need a van very often so I use an estate car. It's worked for me for 30 years!
  5. I knew it was you, I said to my wife, "you know who that is don't you?"
  6. A fantastic car the Camry, I once drove one (hire car) from Vancouver to Calgary, just superb.
  7. It's something that's been discussed many times and it still baffles me why Lexus didn't make a car like the E class estate, so popular, but Lexus would have been better, more reliable for sure.
  8. It makes it look very American which is what attracted me to the LS400 in the first place some years ago. I've always loved big American cars and the LS looked like one but better!
  9. Good news, and a relief! I remember years ago being told by an MOT tester that new rules concerning catalytic converters would put loads of cars off the road but it didn't, certainly not to the extent the scaremongering suggested.
  10. The LS430 is by far the best, quietest and smoothest car I've ever owned, much better than anything I've been in that was made even in the last few years. I have to say though the Volvo is a pleasure to drive, safe, comfortable and surprisingly nippy, the cooled front seats are the best ever!
  11. You can't complain at that, it's about what I get on a long run, and you achieved it in comfort!
  12. I think you'll be fine, it sounds like you're doing it without cutting any corners or skimping on cost. I look forward to seeing the finished item. After all, loads of LS owners do it and they're more than happy with the result, and let's be honest, the factory wheels aren't the most attractive on the LS!
  13. I did wonder why most that I saw at the time didn't have it. Mine was an 87, silver with black leather. After that I got the "Wentworth" still a fab car. Now a 2008 V70 SE Sport, still a fab car but I've had electrical issues, nothing serious, just annoying.
  14. Slightly lower profile tyres which seriously affected the usual "magic carpet" ride. The road noise became very noticeable although that may have been just the tyres. The handling just felt wrong. It didn't tramline or wobble or anything like that, just not right. You won't know until you try, maybe yours will be fine, this is just my experience and I certainly wouldn't want to put you off doing something that may work fine for you.
  15. Excellent, much less than I imagined a mooring would be. We spent a week on a narrow boat on the Kennet and Avon, one of the best holidays ever, so peaceful. Maybe one day!
  16. A pain to do if you leave the headlights in place because you can't see anything! I got my phone down and took photos so I didn't have to rely just on feel. Don't forget to allow them to discharge for a few mins or else you'll get a sticky up hairdo!
  17. I have to agree with that. I put new wheels (with spacers) on my LS400 and drove it for about 20 miles before the factory wheels went back on, the ride was dreadful I'm afraid.
  18. I enjoyed reading that! I love the idea of living on a boat, sadly my wife isn't so adventurous. It looks fantastic, and how nice to hear someone say he's content with his income! Do you have a permanent mooring?
  19. Ooh, posh taxi!
  20. What a bummer. Did they put the dye in to see where the leak is from? I remember the air con in my Volvo 740 GLE, I tried to see how cold I could get it and it was to the point of seeing my breath on a summers day! A great car that was, built to carry huge loads and last for years.
  21. On my 2002 LS430 it was D2R. You need to change them as a pair or it'll be very noticeable. If you're not risking Chinese ones from eBay Halfords have them for about £55 each.
  22. Well keep us posted, it's always good to hear about how issues have been solved and what the problem was in the first place.
  23. Nice to have a car that changes colour, two for the price of one! And as Eamonn says, great value for money, a lot less than I paid in January.👍
  24. Lovely looking car there Richard, looks fab in grey.
