  1. Don't get me wrong, I love mechanical watches, particularly skeleton watches, the working movement fascinates me. We were in Switzerland in the spring (as part of our road trip) and my wife offered to buy me a Swiss made watch for my birthday. What an idiot, I said no! Still, at least my cracked face timepiece still just about works.
  2. I remember years ago two watches were tested, one a Rolex, the other a 99p disposable. Guess which kept the best time?
  3. Absolutely. Even when a tyre is changed small amounts of rust flake can shift at the rear of the disc. I discovered this myself a couple of years ago after I had some work done. I had a slight wobble with slow braking so I took the wheel and disc off, cleaned the surfaces properly and all was back to normal.
  4. If you look at the tutorials/guides on YouTube for replacing discs, it surprises me that the vast majority don't even mention cleaning the mating faces. This can make huge difference.
  5. I think all British PM's should arrive in 1980's British Leyland cars (assuming they didn't break down) just to remind us of how wrong we went!
  6. More than OK, it's a car I love, can't wait to see it!
  7. Thanks for reminding me, I've been meaning to bake a pie for ages, this has given me the prompt!
  8. Granted they are like vans but once inside it's a different story. I think something like this is excellent value. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FRESH-IMPORT-2006-06-PLATE-FACE-LIFT-NISSAN-ELGRAND-RIDER-AUTEC-ONLY-29000-MILES/273559834502?hash=item3fb16fcf86:g:3I4AAOSw4gxbM229:rk:19:pf:0
  9. Just my pennies worth. Having bought an imported Celsior in August I can certainly confirm that most insurers wouldn't touch it. However, there are some Japanese import insurance specialists. When I contacted the one recommended by the importer I had no trouble. The fully comp cover with a very low (£150) excess is under £300.
  10. Why not do what I did and go for a Japanese import? The mileage is usually much lower and the cars are strictly maintained. In fact it's made me look more at the import thing and now I really fancy a Nissan Elgrand! Maybe something for the future.
  11. The thing is Martin, had you kept the LS430 I sold you your experience may have been very different. I think you've just been really unlucky, although the creaking and rattles from the GS are very annoying as I discovered. That said, I think the Mondeo is a pretty good car so I'm glad you're happy with it.
  12. I can't help thinking you need to be a tad firmer with the dealer. If my car was one year old I would insist on it being looked at, with a diagnostic or not, without any charge. At one year old I'm guessing 13K would be covered with mostly motorway, and not so many "local" journeys, so I'd be surprised if it was worn pads/discs.
  13. I'd like to think that I'm wrong, but when I wanted one for my LS three years ago it was a dealer only part. Plenty of non dimming ones for £10 but the genuine glass was a staggering £250! I did buy one from a breakers but when it arrived it had already been replaced with a cheap non dimming glass!
  14. And Ken, if you happen to find yourself in West Sussex you're more than welcome to take mine for a good drive.
  15. If you get an LS430 you'll find it hard to have anything else. I've had three LS400's and as great as they are, the 430 in my opinion is so much better.
  16. I did do that about three aerials ago. I mixed some cayanne pepper with chilli and grease. Trouble is it looked a tad unattractive! I've ordered another one and I will put something similar on again. I'm thinking of getting a cheap dash cam and putting it under a cover with the biggest SD card it will take. I've got an electric supply so I can use a 12v transformer, maybe on a timer as I'm guessing it happens late at night.
  17. I would but it'll be sods law that I drop off just as it happens!
  18. I was hoping it was a cat because we do gardening as well and I was looking for an excuse to like them less than I do! I've ordered another shark fin and I think I'm going to set up a camera to discover what's doing it. If anyone can advise on a cheap system of surveillance it would help, I don't want to spend much just to find the guilty creature.
  19. After having my roof aerial chewed off three times I replaced it with a plastic shark fin which looked really good, this morning footprints on the car and a hole chewed in the aerial! This is driving me nuts. Looking at the prints I would say it's a cat. Now I've got to park on the street! Maybe it's coat hanger time.
  20. Been out in mine and they don't light up, piece of junk! Although it does have a light around the rear view mirror area that just gives a faint, almost orange glow to gently light up the cabin which I like, so its never completely dark.
