  3. Quite right, they're there for a purpose so I'd want to keep them as they should be. Personally I think it should be an MOT fail when the wires are joined.
  4. That would be my guess. The sensors aren't cheap though, about £70 each at ECP, although you may be able to use their discount code.

  6. If money was spent on replacing cats eyes we wouldn't need powerful headlights. We've no doubt all noticed the lack of them on most roads. They're a great invention and a great safety aid but clearly the various councils/government don't agree. So many have been removed and the holes filled in.

  8. Thanks both for your comments. After considering my recent post about o rings at the transmission cooling pipes I think the genuine coolant puts my mind at peace!
  9. How is the transmission cooled on the LS400? I don't remember how the setup went on mine. I'm guessing it either has an external cooler or it goes through the radiator as well.
  10. We also need to remember these cars were sold new to people with healthy bank balances, people who would consider the cost of maintenance and running and not be put off. As someone on this forum put it some time ago, "we're at the bottom of the motoring food chain" It would be crazy to own an ageing LS and not expect the occasional deep dig in the pocket. For me, with over 4 years of LS430 ownership, my only non service part was one height sensor. My current one I bought with a problem rear air shock (slight oil misting) and I did buy a used one from PF. Should something else go wrong I won't complain because cars wear. As it stands I'm thoroughly enjoying it and it's still the very best car I've owned. I've ordered a radiator today as a precaution which I would recommend every 430/460 owner does, or else fit a cooler. It's also an opportunity to replace the coolant which can't be a bad thing.   11. I would take issue with any of the aforementioned problems being "common" We've said this many times, you usually only get to hear about the problems so it makes us think they will all suffer from them. There are plenty of happy owners out there with high miles and no problems.
  12. I know coolant has been mentioned many times, whether it be concentrated or pre-mixed. As I'm replacing my radiator I'll need some more. The LS430 requires Toyota red. It costs £25 for 5L from the main dealer, but ECP do Triple QX for about £9. Does anyone know how important it is to use Toyota or am I just paying for the name? After all, it is coolant with all the necessary ingredients.
  13. The other thing to consider is the fact that the system being sealed depends on 4 rubber o rings on the radiator. The washers do rust causing the o rings not to seal properly, but I wonder what years of heat also do to them. I notice on eBay you can now buy a UK spec rad so no need to adapt it. Previously only a main dealer sold them. I'm ordering one from Eurocarparts today (Koyo) £114 but it's made to fit US or Japanese spec so it'll be OK on mine.

  22. Doesn't your own policy cover you to drive a car that doesn't belong to you, albeit third party only?

Bank one and two refer to the different sides of the engine, a bank of cylinders on each side of a V8, or V6 etc. And sensor one refers to the oxygen sensor before the catalytic converter, sensor two after the cat, so on a "V" engine you have 4 sensors, two each side. Any of them not functioning correctly can trigger VSC check. Actually, loads of different faults can trigger it but they are perhaps the most common.

  25. I have got Google translate on my phone and it does work well. Sadly it doesn't seem too good with Japanese. In the past few days I've been going over my Japanese auction sheet and one translation came up with "how to make a woman"!!
