  1. I would certainly say the thermostat is suspect. the bottom hose will stay cold until the coolant is hot enough to open the thermostat, then the bottom hose should get almost as hot as the top one. If it's easy to get to it take it out and test it in boiling water.
  2. I think I would risk a Chinese one from ebay for the sake of £10, after all, the complete sets you can buy for £15 seem to work perfectly well and they're Chinese, I fitted them to my Celsior with no problems. The ones I bought were black but there's also a seller on ebay who will sell you small bottles of touch up paint if you give the car's paint code, which is what I did so it doesn't really matter which colour you buy.
  3. I got Denso wipers as well, they fit directly without the need for fiddly adapters. Just out of interest, they seem quite hard to slide in but they have WD40 stamped on the fitting. I wondered if this was some sort of manufacturing code, but after applying a spot of the aforementioned they went in easily!
  4. A job well done! There's a centre cap on eBay at the moment if it's the same.
  5. Yes, I've almost been fooled by that before. Looks a real bargain if it's genuine though!
  6. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-LS-460-4-6-SE-L-4dr-ULTIMATE-LUXURY/333079561585?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D6befe07fddaf4b20abcf5ccae3b2e460%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D15%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D292942561731%26itm%3D333079561585&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A14425272-35ee-11e9-9600-74dbd180434e|parentrq%3A10b0f7421690ac3db8c373cdfffc6a56|iid%3A1
  7. Well done! We're looking forward to hearing about your experience with it (and more photos of course)
  8. I had a slight knocking sound from the front of my GS300 but no mechanic ever found the source. I replaced the anti roll bar bushes and the drop links to no avail.
  9. It'll be interesting to keep tabs on it to see how things work out in the future. My original LS 400 has just been SORN'd after 26 years.
  10. I couldn't agree more. The original setup is designed to give you the best ride possible, and it does. I once put new wheels on my MK4 LS400 but changed them back after 20 miles!
  11. Welcome to the LOC! You now own one of the most refined cars ever made!
  12. Same with them all, live seat and belt adjusters with ignition off.
  13. Yes it did!
  14. It was a lot easier in the days when you could whip off the cylinder head and grind the valves on the kitchen table to pass a couple of hours on a Saturday!
  15. It's a plastic foot rest. It may just be a bad photo. This is mine.
  16. The timing belt thing is nonsense. Mine has done 64k but I have a Japanese sticker under the bonnet confirming it has been done at 10 years. I wouldn't hesitate buying an import again, but it won't be from the dealer you went to! I don't suppose you care to enlighten us as to who it was, or location?
  17. Is that his dad's Century I can see in one shot! I think his other one at 4K looks a better deal. Actually, the one you bought from him was the best deal of all!
  18. Well I think you've decided against it? If something else turns up be sure to post the details on here.
  19. Looks ok in the photos. How does it drive? Cam belt is a big job so that's something to really consider. Any rust around the top of the windscreen area? Mileage is nothing for this engine. Upper and lower control arms are weak-ish points and not cheap so you need to know they're ok. Check the boot for damp. Steering column motors in both directions can fail, also expensive parts, although you can live with it in one position. Not history isn't horrendous for a 22 year old. I'd want to know how serious the subframe corrosion is.
  20. Do you know if it's a MK3 or 4? The subframe depends on the extent of the corrosion, it's not an uncommon advisory. The lack of a heated seat wouldn't be something that would put me off. Do you have a reg number or photos? It may be a car known to a forum member?
  21. The MOT advisories are really just the usual stuff, probably not much to be concerned about. It should be on its second cam belt change by now so no evidence of that would be a real concern. Other than that you want to see a nice clear engine oil, a reddish trans fluid and it wants to drive with no knocks or bangs, especially from the front end.
  22. You'll regret it! I tried it with a GS last year. I loved the GS at first, more modern looking, sportier to drive, more economical (I managed 43mpg on one long trip) but after three months I was longing to get back in an LS. It ended up losing me money, then costing me more to buy an LS (albeit a Celsior) but there's nothing like it. Maybe it'll be different for you Mark, but I learned the expensive way! The LS is an itch and I've yet to find anything else to scratch it. I think only those who have had one would understand that.
  23. Yes, a few members have found that main dealers can do decent prices on older cars. I'd be happy with that.
  24. Well, a lesson learned. My RainX is destined for the bathroom or my rear window!🚿🛁
