  1. Being the sceptic that I am, I wonder what might go on behind closed doors, envelopes of money being passed around etc. After all, the German motor industry has hardly shown itself to have clean hands in all areas! Japanese cars mostly have legendary reliability, whereas the Germans don't, so something smells slightly fishy to me when I hear about their cars being so wonderful.
  2. Very interesting to see three Lexus models in the top ten. I bet if the original Top Gear trio had put that list together the Germans would take top marks and Lexus would be nowhere to be seen!
  3. Interestingly I read an article last week written by a member of Greenpeace. The article suggested that the manufacturer of mobile devices, tablets etc contributes to global warming by as much as 30%. If someone believes passionately in a cause they need to make sacrifices. I wonder how many of those protesting would never buy a new device, thus making their contribution to their cause. Somehow I think we know the answer. It's easy to demonstrate against something as long as we're not the ones that have to change.
  4. There you go, a good lesson learned, one that we all need to remember. 👍 When you see so many diesels pumping out filth you have to wonder how they pass.
  5. I drove a GTR around the Dunsfold circuit about 4 years ago. Not difficult to see how Clarkson yanked his neck out driving one, Just phenomenal!
  6. Never had a Mickey Mouse but I wish I still had my Hopalong Cassidy watch from 60 years ago!
  7. My LS400 once failed in the same way. The tester asked if I'd been using supermarket fuel, which I had. He told me to go and get some Texaco fuel from up the road and give it a hard drive back, then it passed. Just a thought.
  8. I'm still benefitting from a thorough service done in Japan 4k ago so I'm fairly confident they would do a good job!
  9. In four weeks we have a road trip to Salzburg planned and the Celsior/LS is the car we're taking. Originally I considered taking my Volvo due to having "what if" syndrome, but where would the enjoyment in that be! V8 or diesel....no contest!
  10. I've found that my concerns over owning an LS430 are pointless. I've spent too much time thinking about what "may" go wrong. I would just have it serviced and get all the bushes and joints checked and go from there. My last one was a 2001 on 118k with no joint or bush problems.
  11. I agree, I would go for that cooler from Paul Frost. I did it myself some years ago, a very, very easy job. On my current one I opted for a new radiator but both jobs are just as straightforward and take about the same time.
  12. I bought a used strut from Paul Frost (lexussparesdirect) for £175. A local mechanic did the fitting.
  13. Congratulations on your new purchase. The 430 is a brilliant car. Get your radiator replaced when you can, or fit a separate trans cooler to avoid water contamination. Don't panic over it though, it's not that common.
  14. On a similar path, I was driving into London last week on the A3 and was really distracted by huge brightly lit advertising screens which changed every few seconds. Then further along the A3 there's big adverts on both sides of the roads. I think they're every bit as dangerous.
  15. I've no Idea really, I'm only going by the info they sent me. I was going to copy it in but the quote has expired now. It was to be sent via DHL economy which I guess is OK. My only concern would have been the amount of times the parcel could have found itself being thrown around and potentially damaged.
  16. Although I've decided to stop worrying and only fix things if and when they go wrong, my last quote from Strutmaster was very good. I could pay shipping, import duty and all taxes up front which made the total cost around £1,100. Not bad I think.
  17. Hmm, I've not tried them together. I am at home today, and feeling a bit peckish....
  18. I think you're a very brave man Martin to but a car like that with no history. I hope it works out ok for you and that the luck of the Irish continues! 🇮🇪🍀
  19. Sorry to hear of your wife's predicament, mine went through chemo and radiotherapy 5.5 years ago, not nice, but fully recovered now thank God. As for something less important like a steering wheel, a very nice job but I love the look and feel of wood! Interestingly, I also love marmite, and have consumed some not 15 mins ago!👍
  20. Having been to sooo many Groundhogs gigs in the 70's I'm surprised I'm not totally mutton!
  21. A breakers is probably the only place for a new cap unless you buy from a main dealer and pay a fortune. What's happened to the old one?
  22. On my GS the worst creak was where the dash met the windscreen. I simply put some of this down between the two and it solved the problem. No need to dismantle anything. A bit of spray silicone helps to wedge it in. Look on ebay for double glazing rubber. It's only cheap so maybe get a couple of different sizes. I think I used 4mm. Because it's black and the top is rounded and smooth it didn't even notice.
  23. To be honest that looks pretty good to me!
