  1. Good practice, because an insurance company may just ask why theft was made so easy! Which brings me to another question. If a car with an immobiliser is started and left running without the key being present, will it still drive normally? Obviously it can't be restarted, but knickable just the same?
  2. Maybe it's just easier (and cheaper) to start the car and go back inside for a while!
  3. I thought it was illegal in the UK because it's against the law to have an engine running with the vehicle unoccupied?
  4. There are thoughts out there that suggest it should be cleaned every annual service, but as Peter points out it isn't in a service schedule. I may just remove it and carefully use some MAF cleaner on it as it's easy to remove.
  5. Personally I would doubt that heat would be a problem for these. It could just be a poor connection or that the bulb is on the way out. I did discover on a previous Lexus that one bulb would come and go before it went kaput, but you'd need to be sure before buying a bulb as they don't come cheap! Also I found that mine needed changing in pairs as the difference between the old and the new was very noticeable.
  6. It's drive by wire. It's certainly not an issue I don't think, and it's only very slight.
  7. Thanks for the replies. I ask for two reasons really. The first is that I've noticed a very slight uneven idle, not enough to effect the rev counter but just about noticeable. The second is that although I'm only on 68k, it probably hasn't ever been cleaned.
  8. Just curious as some say it should be done periodically, others say leave it alone. Personally I've never had one cleaned but I'd be interested to know what others think.
  9. Well she is 16 so her hormones are all over the place. We did have a little father and daughter chat before she went in and it seems to have worked! Hard to believe that I've had this Celsior nearly a year.
  10. Good news! Mine also passed 3 weeks ago with no problems.
  11. Does the engine rev smoothly and consistently in P and N? From what you describe I can't help wondering if the dreaded coolant contamination had already happened under the previous owner. For most of those that this has happened too it seems there has sadly been little success in restoring full transmission function. Depending on the car's condition etc, maybe it's worth contacting lexussparesdirect (Paul Frost) as he breaks LS's and always has transmissions? The LS transmission should be smooth and seamless and changes virtually unnoticeable.
  12. My car was the best place to be today, in fact it even got too cold at one point!🥶
  13. I don't know how it would work with shipping etc but Arnott shocks are £400ish from Rockauto.
  14. 3 years ago I discovered I'd been driving for 3 months without insurance, we'd even been to Cornwall! A change a email address meant I didn't get the reminder, I was mortified! Certainly a lesson learned.
  15. I had them on my Celsior (as nearly all cars in Japan do) and I took mine off for the same reason. I'm guessing sourcing them from Japan might be the answer.
  16. I think we should do it before the end of summer. Somewhere within reach of the majority of LS owners in the south/west.
  17. Should you ever find yourself in West Sussex with your latest steed be sure to make contact!
  18. A sad tale of woe, a better outcome though than my one and only dealing with the small claims court!
  19. I'm really glad you sorted this, apart from your sheer joy at doing it yourself, it also helps the rest of us with air suspension to know how these very expensive sensors can be cleaned. Of course a main dealer would just replace them, in my case it would be around £350 just for the part! Well done.
  20. Car technology has just become something that a general mechanic can't cope with. That's what I like about my Celsior, it's complex but mostly manageable! Before I bought my Volvo I came close to buying an E class Merc estate, a very good looking car.
  21. Very nice. It'll be interesting to know whether the MB electrics will last as long as the Lexus. They seem to be a very weak point on MB.
  22. I'm afraid you're posting in forum full of LS purists so you may not get too many agreeing with you!
  23. Direct fit Denso blades for me from ECP when they have 50% off, works out at about £16 for the pair. Made in Japan.
  24. True, but the early engine was different, everything was visible so it was manufactured in such a way that it was pleasing to the eye.👀 The later one with the cover off looks a mess.
