  1. Will you be keeping the rain/wind deflectors on? I took mine off as I thought they were horrible things.
  2. My only experience of a Century was last year when I went to London with another forum member to look at a Celsior (which he bought) and the owner had a beautiful Century. It was mint, and large and way over the top with gadgets which was marvelous. The V12 engine was a tad scary though! I believe his was a 90's model. My concern would be the vast amount of electronics, and of course the fuel consumption!
  3. Very nice, well done!
  4. All very true. Anyway, our next trip will involve much time spent in Switzerland! 🇨🇭
  5. Why? Good question! John will have the answer, too much wine! 🍷
  6. I have found that having a cabin and a bed to rest on helps with the sea sickness.
  7. When we did Europe in June with a hire car I really didn't get on with it. Driving on the right, steering wheel on the left, and having to change gear (something I'm not used to ) with my right hand, that didn't feel good at all. Driving on the right with my own car I found easy. Waiting to see what happens with something some of you may have heard of called Brexit before making firm plans for the next trip.
  8. Well done, I'm really pleased for you. And you didn't have to spend loads of money to do it!👍 Btw, Malc's advice about the main battery is important, it can affect many aspects of the car, including the alarm!
  9. The problem being the dealer 100 miles away had a beautiful example and a main dealer wouldn't have a car so old. They did eventually offer to do the work if I took it to them but the distance, time off work etc, it just wasn't worth it, maybe for a major component it would. My last LS was sold to a member who travelled from Yorkshire to Sussex, sometimes you've just got to travel, even more so for a rare car. Then distance can become a problem.
  10. One thing to consider is distance. When I bought my GS the dealer was 100 miles away. They gave me a very attractive glossy third party warranty. Within a few short weeks I needed an o2 sensor but the warranty company said it wasn't covered, they said the same a couple of weeks later about drop links, wear doesn't count, only total failure they said. So to get the dealer to do the repairs would mean a logistical nightmare, some buy cars from dealers 400 miles away, so where does it leave them?
  11. Yes it does make sense, just off the let the dinner wine breathe!
  12. MUESLI! I think not. Now muesli should come with a warranty, these broken teeth repairs don't come cheap. I'm not so clear on warranties, if the company you buy the car from gives you a third party warranty, does that mean the seller is liable if the warranty provider doesn't play ball?
  13. Although, I bought my Volvo from a main dealer and the warranty did specify that in car entertainment wasn't covered, so it may come down to small print.
  14. I don't know how much difference there will be as far as removing the unit goes, but removing it from an LS430 is very easy, 10-15 minutes to take it out. A new system will cost an eye watering amount so I'd definitely look at taking the unit to a professional.
  15. I'm surprised no one has got back to you on this. Unless someone on this forum has done GS brake lines and gets back to you, it may be worth checking with a brake specialist who makes their own as genuine parts (like most things Lexus) won't be cheap. Good luck with it, I really like the MK2 GS, especially the 430 which I believe does 0-60 in something like 6 seconds!
  16. Interesting info re the "hidden" rear lights, if not a tad concerning! I always wanted the 760 GLE but at the time it seemed to be only for the posh people! I did also have a black 740 GLT, a fairly rare car but it certainly moved, or so it seemed!
  17. Smoked lenses? How on earth do they get away with that at MOT time? So many times I've wondered it the brake lights are actually working! I had a Volvo 240, what they used to call the "log burner" absolutely gutless but sooo reliable. I then had a 740 GLE, and amazing car, now I have a V70 D5 SE Sport, good, but nowhere near as good as early Volvos!
  18. Careful now, you're showing your age!
  19. Have you seen the news story where classic cars are being converted using old Tesla motors? I think it was the BBC online news. Morris Minors, Ferrari etc.
  20. I do agree with you on this, oncoming vehicles are nearly always the danger, I can't think of a time in poor daylight when lights on the rear of a car have been an issue. Except of course in very heavy rain and spray when headlights and fogs should be on anyway.
  21. Yes John, just the front, it's two rows of 8 led's. To be honest, until I pick up my Thai takeaway your breakfast ingredients are constantly on my mind!🍳🥓🍽️
  22. Excellent, I like that. I wonder if it's something we can get hold of here.
  23. I put drl's on my Celsior, I just bought the kit from Halfords. As long as you've somewhere to fit them its a fairly easy job, plus they're fitted legally, ie, they come on with the ignition and go off with the headlights.
  24. That must be the first LS500 on the forum? You must be sooo frustrated! I hope the recovery goes well. Listen to your wife, women are wiser than men! And as Surrey and West Sussex are neighbours, I hope you'll drop by this way sometime, I've always wondered what I'd look like in green! Beautiful car, but not as beautiful as life!👍
  25. I'm not sure how easy it will be for you to get answers to those questions. I had a quick look at mine and every connector in the sat nav unit has a wired plug in it, but without a wiring diagram it's impossible to know what they do. The backup camera is a tad complex as the lines curve with the steering showing safe distances etc. I doubt that kind of technology would be installed and left redundant.
