  1. I think the battery thing is worth considering. It may be worth disconnecting the earth terminal for twenty mins to let it reset or replace if it's getting old. Failing that a cheap diagnostic scanner should show any fault codes. Also make sure they've connected every electrical connection properly.
  2. I would contact lexussparesdirect via eBay and get a decent used one. A pity this wasn't three weeks ago as I sold a good one for £95. The front struts fit either side whereas the rears are handed.
  3. Yes, I think that's ok. I've seen it on an LS400 as well, a leak from both rocker covers.
  4. I think he's probably really proactive when it comes to adverts, especially adverts advertising duff cars!
  5. Actually, considering how many Lexus cars I've got through over the years she may have given up caring! Maybe I should make an SC my last one, not the one from Dudley though! In all seriousness, I may give it some thought in the future.
  6. I fitted an oil cooler to a previous LS430 but came to the conclusion it's even easier to just replace the radiator. At least that way you know your radiator is good for some time. If you intend towing anything other than a little trailer to the dump then a separate cooler is recommended. My current car had what looked like an ok radiator but I put a new one on just in case, plus nice fresh Toyota coolant! An easy DIY job.
  7. I'm wondering if spotting it means I'm getting to really like the SC. How on earth would I explain that to my wife!
  8. It's always worth a mentioning again that many people neglect taking the discs off and cleaning the mating surfaces. Every time you take a wheel off the potential to get crud behind the disc is there which can cause a wobble. I discovered this from experience on a previous LS when I developed a bad wheel wobble, it turned out just to be a small rust flake after the wheel had been removed.
  9. He's out there selling again on ebay with his new name! This time it's an SC430. It's a shame there isn't a way of warning potential buyers other than on the LOC. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLACK-LEXUS-SC-430-137K-MILES-FSH-FULL-MOT-HPI-CLEAR-SUPERB-DRIVE-SOARER-LS-GS/303496707534?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D46420d5db216462ea823ab5a34fc085e%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D303496707534%26itm%3D303496707534%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3Adaeb62d2-59a0-11ea-b6cc-74dbd180fe7f|parentrq%3A885d93d81700a9e1e8208e3efff5030c|iid%3A1
  10. It makes me wonder what is the longest diagnosis that's been done and charged per hour!
  11. If it's like the LS430 import then changing the disc won't work, the whole drive unit will need replacing.
  12. Thanks for that. I'm curious because I very nearly bought Strutmaster replacements but in the end I went for four new Arnott air struts. It's good to know they give a good ride though, it may help someone in the future.
  13. Phew, thanks for the info, it looks like it may be just a case of part number 45206-50010. I'll have a better look at the weekend and maybe post some photos so I get it right. Reading about this issue again it may just be possible I have to same problem as the CT, it does seem very odd that a steering column UJ would be worn with such low mileage.
  14. I think I'll have a beer instead as the site won't accept my vin.
  15. It's certainly something I've never come across. I've read of them leaking but that's really it. Although in my case I do have a rattle on the joint.
  16. I've looked at that but when I click on buying options it draws a blank! I wonder if someone out there can find the part number.
  17. Thanks for that. I guess with delivery etc the price is working out at over £400. It's a shame there doesn't seem to be a refurb on this.
  18. I must say I don't ever remember anyone saying they need a new rack. Mine isn't a problem, just a slight annoyance. Trouble is I can't find the shaft being sold anywhere, and I'm not going to a main dealer as it'll be another shafting!
  19. I wonder if they would do a refurb on just the shaft with the uj's. I think I'll give them a call. I called them but sadly the answer was no.
  20. I put a post on yesterday re my steering column, I wonder if you have the same issue and it's just the universal joint. If you grab the joint down in the footwell and rock the steering wheel have a feel for movement. The steering rack bushes can also wear causing a knock/rattle but they're fairly easily replaced. I notice Rockauto do a new (or refurbished) rack for about £250 but you have to pay a deposit which is refunded when you return your old one, just inconvenient being in the US but should you need one it might be an option.
  21. Wow, cleaver man, that's exactly it! I'm surprised at only 70k though. So I wonder if that's a part that's readily available.
  22. An interesting read. I'm very interested to know about your suspension replacement. So did you buy Strutmasters coil struts? If so, how would that work with one half air?
