    Just bad luck probably, I've just got home from my amazing week in the wilds of Cornwall and all the fuel stations were open, fully stocked and just normal, or slightly less amount of customers. In Salisbury, which seems to be awash with fuel stations it was business as usual. Sadly, being peckish, I did buy a thing called a "potato dog" from the garage, that may have been a mistake!

    I'm hoping the supply of fresh produce which can't be stored will stay strong, then maybe as a nation we'll learn to cook healthy food again and use our imaginations.

    We're hoping to come back in late April as our European road trip is off. It'll be daft if we can't because we're in the car all the way here and not near anyone when we get here.... apart from sheep!

    We wanted dog poo bags on our Sainsbury's delivery but they were substituted with "little ones nappy bags"

    Shops, cafés etc all open....for now.

    I'm down in a remote part of Cornwall for the week. I think I saw 4 people today on a 10 mile walk!

    I think a lot of owners do buy them from the US. When I looked that's all I could find. Thankfully I don't have the ML system now.

    Hard to say what happened. We've often rented Sprinter vans and they can be easy to lock with keys inside. Lucky you were able to access a spare, could have really cost you!

    I disagree, the glass breaking was a brilliant touch, loved it!

    Let's hope there isn't a next time! I've just escaped to Cornwall for a few days and the drive was great, 280 miles of quiet comfort!

    A shame you're not near me, I'd have done it for you. Still, good to have it done. Was it drivers side or passenger? The drivers side is a little tight when removing the airline.

    Just out of interest, can I ask what you were charged for the fitting?

    Well yesterday I had another go at this. After washing the car I generously coated the door rubbers and plastic trims, including the top plastic inside with Autoglym rubber and vinyl care. Then later on I gave it all a second generous coat and I've driven down to the far west of Cornwall in silence. So I guess I just needed much more and I need to do it regularly.

    If you're referring to clay bars I used the Maguires kit which when I bought it was on offer at Halfords, plus 15% off with LOC card. I'd never used one before and I was amazed at how smooth the paintwork was afterwards. I was also amazed that I didn't pass out, it's hard work!

    Thanks Roger. I spoke to him today and the fever seems to have gone and he feels much better than he did two days ago.

    He is fairly fit so hopefully he'll be ok.

    And it would appear my Austrian road trip planned for late April is now postponed. My own brother has just been struck down by it in Somerset.

    As has been suggested, try both. There are plenty of LS430's out there for sale, less 400's but still a few. You could even try a GS300, I had one for a while, took it on a 2.5k road trip, very comfortable and a pleasure to drive.

    A very good point, and one that we've discussed before. To buy what was an expensive limo and not expect to dig deep sometimes is just dreaming. I concede that a "good" LS400 comes as close as it gets but it's not a foregone conclusion.

    Just to clarify, the suspension problems are not "prolific" and many owners cover mega miles without issue. My LS400's we're great cars, but having moved to LS430's there's no going back for me, and I would suggest most, not all, but most who have done it would say likewise. The 430 is a fantastic machine.

    Welcome to the LOC. All the issues you mention are common and can all be rectified.

    I don't get that either. I've driven mine to Austria, doing it again late April (virus permitting) and Lands End on Monday for the second time this year and I certainly won't feel on edge. Now if I was doing that in an ageing Mercedes I'd probably take along the valium!

    Also bear in mind that the 400/430 engine is fundamentally the same superb V8. The facelift 430 has a fine 6 speed transmission which makes it slightly better fuel wise. The 400 has a stainless steel exhaust whereas the 430 doesn't, unless you get a Celsior like mine which may well have one. I really think if I was looking again I'd seriously consider (although not facelift) the white Celsior on eBay, especially as it doesn't have air suspension and is only on 37k!
