  1. I must admit to being tempted if I change for another estate, I do like the look of them. Petrol ones are fairly hard to find and someone on this forum said the much more common diesel Avensis has the same troublesome engine as the Lexus IS. Maybe someone can confirm that?
  2. I'd have one! The reason I have a Volvo estate is the need for space with my work. I considered a Mercedes e class estate but the reliability concerned me. So because I want Lexus reliability and comfort I have to have two cars (well, not "nave to have" as such) Not that the Volvo isn't comfortable and reliable, it's just not the same! So why Lexus never made a big estate when all the competitors did is a mystery, and one that has been discussed here many times.
  3. I've had my 2008 V70 for nearly 5 years and mechanically it's been great, only let down by silly electrical things, nothing major, just annoying. It's on 61k now and it's a pleasure to drive and feels very tight and solid. Also very practical, especially having a dog as it has a built in fold down guard, and with the front seat folded I can get 3 metre lengths in.
  4. I know it well, a lovely little town.
  5. Where in West Sussex are you Rob? I'm in sunny Worthing.
  6. There's a lot of pressure in a diesel engine, your choice, and everyone here would be more than happy to be proved wrong, but I won't be betting on it working. I suppose the only way to find out is to do it, I'll get the custard ready to eat with my humble pie just in case!
  7. To be honest Reginald Christie sounded like a nice guy as well! It's not normal to have to check the levels weekly unless you were expecting them to drop. It sounds like the seller may have known.
  8. I've noticed this at Rockauto, some parts have the option of being supplied with grease nipples
  9. Jeff Wayne's War of the world, all sounds a tad familiar!
  10. Here's one for our present time. And I see someone got there before me!
  11. I've just had to go to Spotify to play that!
  12. Did this suddenly happen or over time? It sounds like the problem may be in the ignition switch itself.
  13. When you say won't lock, do you mean it doesn't lock when you turn the steering wheel with the engine off?
  14. The steering motors failing are probably the most common fault on the LS. Most people just live with it as they cost so much to replace. When the motors fail they generally don't make any sound at all.
  15. Sometimes it takes news like this to really bring the reality home to us, and I'm very sad that it had to be news from another forum member. There's much camaraderie on the LOC so it goes without saying that we're all hurt by this very sad news. Most of us have never met, but in some ways it does feel as if we "know" each other.
  16. No! In fact I tried to buy rhubarb to make a rhubarb and ginger tarte tatin but no joy. On a positive note the lettuce and rocket seeds have germinated, the blueberries are in blossom and I'm just waiting for the tomatoes, peppers and chillies to sprout!
  17. Good idea but I'm not sure a water based "willow" will suit! At least I waxed it recently so it could be worse. I was thinking the same about a clay bar and as I have one that's what I'll do.
  18. I second that, a friend has one and complains about the constant unreliability and astronomical repair costs. He says it's generally electrical issues.
  19. Ditto! And I've just washed my car to discover paint splashes on it from painting my garden workshop, another job to pass time!😁
  20. Also a 12v battery going south can trigger the alarm. I've been looking for years at how to disable the LS alarm without joy.
  21. Welcome to the LOC! My Celsior came with door edging already fitted in Japan and it's very subtle so it is available somewhere. Hopefully someone will put you right.
  22. I replaced the clock spring on a previous LS430 (although it turned out to be something else) and I would certainly pay much attention to the air bag warnings. I disconnected my battery and waited at least 30 mins before doing it. I bought a used one from Germany so I assume left and right hand drive are the same?
