I can't make much out from my service book either, or my auction sheet! And I've got a very poor picture with the original Japanese number plate.

For some reason I can't download links but if you look on eBay they're now £15 with a 4.3" screen.

I semi retired about a year ago at the age of 67 from my work as a self employed carpenter. I still do jobs ( but I pick and choose) and that allows us to run 3 cars and enjoy holidays etc. It's one of my better decisions and as me and my wife are still healthy we love to walk....as long as the walk involves coffee and cake somewhere! However, my ultimate aim is to fully retire in Cornwall....one day. I've always been very active so sitting in an armchair all day is definitely out! As mentioned above, I've not discounted the idea of a boat as we live by the sea. There are just so many options in retirement you could spend the rest of your life pondering them and end up doing nothing, so don't ponder for too long Piers!

I've fitted two aftermarket reversing cameras, one to my MK4 LS400 and one (with great difficulty) to my first LS430, the difficulty was trying to find a way from the boot to the cabin. Apart from that, and on most cars, it's really easy. About £20 for the kit, and the images are excellent.

All Lexus wheels corrode, it won't affect the MOT.

A lovely car, and with a GU registration it must be a car from here in West Sussex originally.

I see what you mean! By faultless I mean mechanically its never missed a beat, we always take it on our Cornish trips.

In the 30k I've driven it its been faultless, and being an SE Sport it's very high spec, the only things that have gone wrong are electrical, drivers side door speakers, alarm micro switch in one door and the sat nav died for a year but came back to life of its own accord! It actually feels more solid on the road than any Lexus I've had!

I've had my 2008 V70 for over four years now and still only on 62k. Such a practical car. Mine has the 185hp diesel and it just has so much pulling power. A great car for me being a dog owner as well, plus I can get 3.2 lengths of timber in it!

Rockauto in the US. A company that gets much praise on this forum. With shipping and prepaid vat they should still work out much less than UK prices. Failing that Google Amayama.

All the above advice is good, especially about avoiding a Lexus diesel, we read endless tales of woe. My neighbours have a Toyota Auris, a great car according to them. And as mentioned above the Prius, very popular in London. Although if you went for a Prius or Lexus RXh you may we'll find your catalytic converter stolen before long!

Be careful if you buy a radiator from the US, they have a different setup which is the same as my Celsior. On the US setup the coolant reservoir is at the front, connected to the radiator itself.

It seems that a multitude of electrical issues on the LS430 are solved by disconnecting the battery for 20 mins or so, if you didn't do it after fitting the actuator motor it may be worth a try.

There is a YouTube video with info on how to fix the rattle, it does unfortunately involve duct tape! A friend of mine has an is250c and had the same rattle which he fixed with this method. Not what you'd expect to do on a Lexus but apparently it works!

The service using FedEx is really exceptional. I ordered my anti roll bar bushes from Rockauto using FedEx but I chose the cheaper and slightly slower option, but they still arrived in the UK in around 3 days, it was only the weekend that stopped them being delivered straight away. They still arrived on Monday. Did you get your fridge magnet?

When I replaced my four air shocks I didn't realise I could get genuine ones for just another £400 for the lot, by then I'd already paid for the Arnott ones. Not that they feel any different but genuine would have been nice. Lexus Parts Direct offered a good deal if I bought four, about 25% less than Lexus Hedge End.

An independent with excellent knowledge of diagnostic work should be ok but sometimes the experience of main dealers is necessary.
