Thanks for the cash back link. The cross climates performed very well in the snow, sheet ice on the east coast this last week, currently in the lakes where they also perform well in the heavy rain. Compared to the Bridgestones fitted to the car since new,the car now feels much more secure on the road.

Just had 4 Michelin cross climate fitted to my car. 235/55/20. Excellent tyres if you prefer all season. National tyres have a Black Friday offer. 20% off when you buy 4 tyres. Total was £779.97 fitted. £194.75 each Happy with that. Also have £25 tracking on top cashback, hope that also pays out in the future.

Year before was with LV think it was approx £520. That was when the car was new. They gave me as I remember quite a high renewal figure. So searched around at the time and found other companies that would match the £500 ish from the previous year.Decided to go with NFU at a higher price. They offered an old for new policy in the event of total loss. Also rated as the best to deal with in the event of a problem. I did take out a 4 year Total loss Gap policy at £500 when I purchased the RX,So well covered in the event of any issue. This year searched the normal comparison websites before contacting the NFU. Cheapest quote was £650ish. Aviiva were approx £720. I would have gone with them if the NFU were silly money. Quite surprised/happy with the quote they gave me. My insurance renewal is due on the25th March.I had to get my insurance sorted out early before the NFU sent me out my renewal letter.(They do not send out email renewal quotes, unless asked.) I am currently enjoying the heat n Sun in India for most of March.

Insurance

My renewal price £736 vs £659 last year. Happy with that after reading all the crazy prices others are asked to pay. With NFU who are top rated. 67 year old. Full no claims. East Yorks. -
I had the same issue on my RX400. Removed roof bars and black strips. Hairline crack was evident along the roof line body. I initially sealed with Vaseline, water leaks into boot area cured so then followed with sealant. You should be able to remove black roof inserts. If not try putting Vaseline or similar on the gap between the black inserts and roof body. Should stop majority of water ingress. Temporary fix until you can get inserts off.

I had similar noise on my old RX400,at a mileage of approx 125k. I looked at replacing the full drivers side drive shaft!! Expensive, difficult and reading the RX forums minimal discussion of a similar issue. In the end it turned out to be the wheel bearing. Replaced the ball joints which were in reasonable condition and wheel bearings which were not in good condition!! Noises on the front of cars can be difficult to diagnose accurately. My local very experienced independent and myself maintenance engineer (40 years) decided it was the passenger side at fault. Both wrong. Yes it was good to replace the bearing and ball joint. Replacing same on the drivers side cured the issue.

Agree regarding Apple car play or Android becoming the main driver touchscreen interface. I had a good discussion with the Salesman prior to placing my RX order regarding how the situation is rapidly changing, if in future Lexus will scale back involvement in maps and other software that are best left to Apple/Google. Anyway update on my RX order. Car build is complete and Left Factory. So that is just over 1 month after Order placement.

Hi I went through the same thought process as yourself. Decided after getting quotes in from Carwow that I preferred the RX. My previous 2 cars were RX300 and RX400. I do prefer the size difference compared to the NX. Also prefer the RX inside with the new touchscreen, CD player and lots of push buttons to control functions. Yes may look a little dated. Then you also have the proven 3.5 lt engine, which will not be available in new model, if the press leaks are correct. I negotiated on a Takumi, Ice Ecru over 12% off list price, negotiated discounted service deal over 3 years. Then 1.9% finance. Also reasonable option of trade in. Hope to get Car sometime this Summer.I was quoted 6 month delivery. Hope that helps with your decision. ±

Well I posted on this thread in 2018 with 90k on my RX400. Now it is at 135000. Cambelt changed with water pump at 115000. Front wheel bearings changed at 128000. New Lexus ball joints fitted at same time. Originals were OK but seemed sensible to replace at same time. Only 1 bearing was noisy. Front and rear discs and pads replaced. Lexus dealers very reasonable on prices. I had the issue with water getting into the car, carpets up to get dry and find ingress point. Water ingress point was from roof bar area. Strongly suggest that anybody with a RX400 removes the black plastic inserts which sit on the gutter beside the roof bar. Then look down on the outer edge of the gutter bottom. See if you can see a fine black line which is a sign of a very fine crack in the bodywork. This allows water into the car which then finds its way into the back of the car close to the rear lights. Simple solution, just use a flexible sealant to to seal all along the length of the roof bar gutter bottom. Evostick The dogs bollocks is ideal. I suspect that lots of the 400s may have this issue. Car now dry and runs like a dream. This will be my last year with my RX400. Will be approx 80000 miles of minimal hassle ownership when it is time to say goodbye. My previous car was a RX300. So not a surprise to say that a RX450 Takumi will be arriving sometime in Summertime, on a ship from Japan... Reasonable deals are to be had on new cars, certainly not on used cars. I do wonder if the current RX may be the last to have the V6 engine.

Used car company Cazoo valued at 8 billion, Cinch valued at 5 Billion says it all. They are buying, loaning, marketing any car that they can obtain. Trying to manage, justifying the crazy valuations. The used car prices are not driven by normal market dynamics. Tulips come to mind. The forecourt value of a used RX450 has increased approx 20 to 30% maybe 40%, taking in normal depreciation, over the last year. My RX400 has increased in value (perhaps) from £2100 to £3450 on We Buy any Car. Not the time to buy a used car.... Maybe buy a new one.

Looks like a very nice car. I had also looked at Teeside Lexus for my next RX. Good feedback always welcome to hear. Android auto update? I had never heard of that on a 2018 RX450 other than via 3rd party installations. Will be interested in more info. Also will be interested in your views on series 4 vs 3 series 3 RX. Will have to move on from my RX400 one day!!

OBD2 Reader
johnmac1956 replied to OldStoat's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
After 10 years of almost fault free driving I had a an engine light showing on my RX400. It happened after very very heavy rain and a 40 mile journey through flooded roads and the sodden beauty of the Yorkshire Wolds!! I took it to a friends garage who had the a professional OBD reader which pointed me in the right direction to solve the issue. But did not give me the full answer. Due to lockdown I could not take it to another friend who had better diagnostic equipment. So i turned to this and the US forums and of course Amazon. I tried 2 different OBD readers. A wired version which allowed me to clear the engine/hybrid fault even though it did not show that the fault existed. I discussed it with the manufacturer (China),they said I would need to buy their £400 OBD reader to read the fault codes on a Lexus RX400!! The 2nd bluetooth OBD reader when paired with the DrPrius software App showed me the fault code but not the detailed fault information, that I needed.. I must admit though that the DrPrius App was very good showing detailed information on the hybrid battery condition. Thankfully good batteries and system in my situation. After reading about using Techstream on Windows 10 computers and perceived difficulties. I considered taking 1 of my laptops back to windows XP! After further research though I found on Amazon the following. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0779M319M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It arrived the next day and following the detailed instructions to the letter, it installed on my windows 10 laptop easily. Now I was able to read the full details of the fault code and carry out tests to bottom out the root cause of my issues. So Yes in my case the OBD readers are very easy to use and useful, but you really need to utilize the Techstream software to fully analyse faults. -
Hi I have the engine management light on my RX. Car is operating operating OK and hybrid system appears to be performing as expected. Used Techstream to analyse the fault code. It is DTC P2601-780 Coolant Pump Control Circuit Range / Performance. I have forced(via Techstream) the invertor coolant pump and the pump is operating OK. I have changed the coolant pump relay, but fault still persists, I found a tech document online which says that the fault is either Wire harness or connector Oil pump with electric motor assembly Hybrid ECU Does anybody know where the hybrid ECU is located? Is it behind the glovebox? Has anybody had a similar fault. Just connected 2 local auto electricians. Both fully booked up for 3 weeks and 1 said that he does not work on Lexus vehicles. So it is investigate myself or my Local Lexus dealer. Thanks

Thanks to all previous posters regarding this repair.. My camera showed signs of failing last year then recently failed to dead screen. Ordered the Car Rover camera from Amazon(still £9.99),installed today following instructions detailed above, all working OK. Its a little time consuming getting the new camera in the correct alignment in relationship to the image seen on the screen. When I had image perfectly level I bonded(superglue) the new camera into position inside the old camera housing,so that it would not move again during car washing, boot opening closing etc. Also nobody else has mentioned this but I did feel that the new camera showed a lot of the rear bumper on the screen so I angled(shimmed) the camera mounting bracket to improve the screen image. Thanks Again.

I have changed my battery and disconnected it on several occasions. It does not cause any significant issues. Reset your power windows/moon roof if applicable instructions in car manual. Then if you wish to do so perform ISC learning to maximise fuel efficiency. Lexus service team do not need to be involved unless you wish them to be. Cheers

Do not have link to replacement O ring. I just used silicone sealant to improve the water seal when repairing the AFS sensor switch. I repaired the it 2 or 3 times before installing a replacement sensor switch. https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-72313-924-755.aspx I think it was this one I purchased but just check it fits your car before purchasing if you do so. The Dorman is not built to the same quality as the Lexus replacement but you can pick them up at a very reasonable price.
