  1. Howdo all,

Just been on a bit of a spree and bought the following kit after reading stuff here and on detailing world...(Need to now bin all the old shampoos and polishes I have in the shed)

    1) Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo

    2) Meguiars detailing spray

    3) Autoglym Tar remover

    4) Halfords rain repellant for side and rear windows.

    5) Lexus Caliper stickers (white)

    6) Smooth black hammerite for calipers

7&8) Carlack all in one and Collinite Wax on order (Until this arrives I will be continuing to use AG Aqua Wax)

Apart from good weather I also need a clay bar to go with the detail spray above. Are these generally only available via mail order? Never seen any in my local Halfords (Bristol)? If so any brand recs for a first timer? (or is blu-tac definately worth a shot?)

Will post pics of the calipers when I get a good weekend and find my axle stands!

    Cheers

  2. Welcome to LOC matey, just wanted to comment on a few points above. Your kinda comparing chalk and cheese in comparing a SUV 4x4 type Lexus to a large saloon BMW. I would expect the ride, cornering and reversing visibilty to be better in the beemer.

Front bumber PDC! You have been spoilt. A matter of time till you hit something? Inspires confidence....hope you dont frequent car parks in my area lol. Most people have front bumber PDC that are also called eyes :winky:

Quite right - I talk tosh a lot of the time. But I stand by the PDC comments - an audible alert would be a great option since the bonnet dips away and I haven't got used to it yet. Also, with the feeble reversing lights and country mud on the camera, an audible alert at the back would be nice too.

Rudders, glad you took the comments in the way they were intended mate. It was all said a bit tongue in cheek! Good man.

    Catch you soon

  3. Im a PC user, mainly due to the fact that im a bit of a geek and have built/upgraded my own computers for many years now. They do the job I need them to and I have always been able to sort out any problems myself. So its cheap and easy.

Would love to give a mac a go but they are pretty pricey and doubt I could justify one anytime soon.

  4. No reply from ChipsAway so Small Claims Court summons issued a week ago. They have 14 days to respond.....watch this space.

Sorry to hear about this mess your in mate, please keep us updated as im now hooked on the story and await the next installment! Fingers crossed you get what you deserve, that's a shocker of a mistake and totally negligent. Wouldn't let those boys paint my shed.

    Good luck.

  5. Hi,

Anyone got any tips on keeping the side windows free of fine mist now the mornings are getting colder? I leave for work quite early and cannot see out of the side windows due to fine water droplets. In my old car I could just wind the windows down to clear them but this does not work in the Lex as the seals do not make contact with the glass when winding. I dont really want to go around with a blade to clear them as im lazy :winky:

I used auto-glym aquawax all over the car on the weekend but this has not helped with this problem.

Any products out there for this?

    Cheers

  6. Howdo,

I've done a search in this mods forum but couldn't narrow down a specific topic regarding the rear fogs on the boot lid. I have seen a picture of a silver IS with the red fogs lens replaced with clear lens' (DJ Worza i think?). I think it looked pretty smart and would suit a silver car.

A few questions, Are these easy to replace? Is it a good idea? Are they readily available (eBay?) and would I need to replace the bulbs to achive the red light?

    Any thoughts or guides appreciated.

    Cheers

  7. Hi,

I also purchased some of this stuff on the recommendations of this post. After just over a week of varied weather I went to wash the car and it looked as though the wheels wouldnt need doing. On rinsing the car over I could see the water just beading off the alloys. On closer inspection I could see some road film on them but this was resolved by a simple wipe over and then a re-application of this wax after cleaning the car.

I would recommend this product to keep your alloys clean and low maintenance.

    Cheers to original poster!

  8. Howdo all,

Thinking of passing a dry Sunday morning painting my brake calipers as an easy little mod. What colour would look the best on a kodiak sky coloured IS200 (The problem being that depending on the light the car can look silver, champagne, purple, grey)

Want it to look classy rather than sporty but open to suggestions. Im not against red but wondered what else might look good thru the 11 spoke alloys.

    Cheers

  10. I was surprised how easy it was to have a quick look at the timing belt. Mine is coming up to the 6year mark next year and I have only owned the car a few weeks so this was my only area of concern (car has only covered 34K). After seeing these various posts I thought I had better take a look at it to ensure it would see me through to the service next year.

Well after 5 minutes removing a few bolts and plastic I was relieved to see that the belt still looks brand new. No sign of any wear, really black with no debris or marks on it at all and its the full width of the sprocket.

Thanks to all the posters on this subject, a weight off my shoulders.

Next job...off to find some shiny new centre caps for the wheels.

  11. Hi all,

Looking at sorting a Bluetooth car kit for my motor (maybe santa will do the honors for me lol). I have seen a few of the all-in-one units that clip onto the sun visor getting good reviews and they seem to be reasonably priced. I remember having a cigarette lighter one several years ago and it was really really poor. I guess technology has improved a lot since then, and now have lots of features (FM transmitter, voice dialling etc)

Was looking at the Jabra SP700 as an example

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jabra-SP700-Blueto..._pr_product_top

Anybody use car kits like these? Any recs? I am unlikely to use it regularly (one or two short calls a week) so does not justify a professional install kit.

    Any opinions welcome.

    Thanks in advance

  12. Howdo all,

Im Hoops from Bristol. A pretty busy month for me! Got married to Claire 6 weeks ago (no kids....yet), turn 30 in 6 days and picked up a 2004 IS200 Auto LE yesterday!

Im a senior network engineer for a mobile phone company, sort of making sure calls get from A to B etc etc.

Not really into mods, will spend my cash keeping the car in good nick, need to check the timing belt on the weekend. Possibly considering installing iPod adapter and a Bluetooth carkit.

    Cheers

  13. Woohoo!

I picked up my IS yesterday afternoon, all I can say is wow. The most smooth and silent car I have ever sat in. I also didnt notice all the additional toys on the test drive, like folding mirrors and auto headlights etc. Im well chuffed. Service at Lexus Bristol was supurb.

  14. np Rich, we paid ~8500. Possibly a tad much but thats cuz its main stealer I guess, got a few hundred off the asking price and got what we were after for the part ex so no complaints. Comes with some sort of warranty period aswell I think so not bad.

  15. Hi all,

Just a post to say I will be joining you guys in owning a Lexus IS200 this week. This looks to be a good forum and is regulary updated im sure you will help a n00b like me out in the future. I have already printed out k33rjd's brief instructions for checking the cambelt as thats the first thing on my to-do list.

Me and the missus went out looking for cars with a 3-series or A4 in mind, but for our budget they were all really high milers. Stumbled across the Lexus dealer in Bristol who had a mint 2004 IS200 Auto LE on the forecourt with only 34K miles on the clock :msn-oh: Its a bit older than we had liked but couldn't walk away from it and several people already showed an interest, its spotless. One owner who garaged it and full lexus service history, will also be fully MOT'd and taxed for 5 months. Isnt costing any more to insure and I don't do many miles (6K a year) so will only have to stump up a little extra in fuel. Bargain.

Trading in our 2003 Seat Leon TDi for it which has been a good motor but moving up in the world :-)

    Catch you soon
