  1. Lets try again!!

Had a local mechanic change the front discs and pads on my S reg GS 300 - he used pattern discs and pads.

Came back with a SERIOUS wobble on the steering wheel when you hit the brakes

He swears he's used these discs and pads on over 30 other (non-lexus) cars with no issues

Took the car to Lexus who fixed it - as soon as I said pattern discs and pads, they said - 'nah mate - gotta use Lexus parts - non lexus always warps'

Is this true, or is it more likely the mechanic fitted them wrong? Just wondering as I haven't paid the mechanic yet!! Shame because he's been good until now on other things...

  2. I recently had a Nokia Universal Kit fitted to my GS300 II by www.nationalcarphones.co.uk

Didnt integrate with the stereo as its amped on the GS and the mobile fitters run a mile. However they fitted a pod speaker under the passenger glove box. It is possible to fit a mute lead into the amp to kill the sound when the phone rings(although I've not bothered)

Have to say I'm quite happy with it. Fitting is good, Sound is good, Mike works well, the tax disk arial is excellent - I've dropped 1 call in 4 months, and I drive all over the country

    Just my 2 pence worth...

its a THB Bury take & Talk

Just bought the Nokia 6300 bit that attaches to the universal bit. Works a treat. lovely

  4. Its cool folks all sorted now,had to leave the ignition switched on for 6 minutes to reset the immobiliser, cheers.

This thread just saved me a nasty call out - let the Battery go flat - left the key in the ignition for 3 days :shutit:

charged the Battery off the wifes car, but could not start the engine - immobiliser light would go off. Tried all sorts of combinations of key in, key out, lock, unlock etc

sure enough - wait six minutes with the key in the iginiton and it all worked - phew

  5. I go up and down the country all the time

My experience over the last 3 years - figures from Full tank - Empty ish

Long run with Air conditioning turned off (saves quite a bit) - 360 - 380 miles

Some motorway, some A road, bit of town (air con onoff/) - 280 - 300 miles

all town and short runs - 260 miles

you can get at least 50 miles from the empty light coming on, if you turn the air con off!!

but its all worth it because after 2 hours getting to a customer, I'm fresh and ready to work. When I drove a Golf, I was ready to have a kip and go home again

    ;)

  7. Only problem with using the dealer is how long they will let you haver their loan car for. If your repairs are light I'm sure it will be fine

I once had a car shipped to the dealer after a nasty accident and they took the loan car off me after a month - insurance wouldn't provide a car as the claim wasnt settled so I used the motorbike instead - good job it was summer

Oh - and the dealer was .... Volkswagen. THATS why I drive a Lexus

  8. Got to say that I had the same problem when I had new tyres fitted - interestingly I'd just read the GS300 buyers guide article and it even mentioned the 300s are very sensitive to wheel balance - nice wobble at about 75. Paid 11 beans at the local tyre fitter and watched the lad do the balance. Sorted after that!

I've resigned myself to having to rebalance the wheels at least twice per fitting!!
