  1. Thanks for the feedback guys! Bought the SE-L before getting chance to read the replies though! Bit concerned at the 'stay away from the diesel' comment sad.gif

I'm quite happy with the purchase, picking it up tonight smile.gif x

Ignore the "keep away from Diesel" comment mate. It's rubbish. I'm just back from a motoring holiday around Europe.. Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany. Around 2500 extremely comfortable and highly enjoyable miles and great experience in my 220D. Kept up with whizzers on the Auto Stradas and Auto Bahns as well as getting average 46 MPG. The Diesel is truly a superior car.

'The Diesel is truly a superior car', well i'm glad you're happy with yours but 'superior' over the petrol? I think not. Apart from mpg return there is nothing superior about the diesel - unless you prefer that double-decker bus sound of the engine over the barely noticeable ticking over, and when you rev it up growl delivered by the V6.

If you are educated to higher English or above, then, if you read and interpret my reply properly, you will most certainly see that I did not initimate in any way shape or form that it was "superior to the petrol model". I said it was a superior car! As for the "double decker bus" sound, well I prefer bus and tractor growls. Just my preference I'm not afraid to say.

    hehe.gif

'Educated to higher English or above' - then what does 'initimate' mean? And since the majority of posts in this thread are relating to diesel v petrol, I'm sure that others as well as myself read your post as being superior to the petrol model. Anyway, I would urge all prospective diesel buyers to test drive both diesel and petrol versions of the IS. I was going to buy the diesel myself, but after trying both decided it was a no-brainer and bought the petrol model. You pays your money ...

Yep, you have just proved that you're a "no brainer", stick to spell checking and stop knocking diesels.

    laugh.gif

No need for me to knock diesels - they to a good enough job of that themselves. :P So if you didn't mean superior to the petrol then what were you referring to, the Lexus hybrids?

Tip of the day: If you're in a hole and want to get out, stop digging. :whistling:

  2. It is definitely worth haggling with a Lexus dealership over servicing prices. I was at first quoted £254 for a 3 year intermediate service, told them I was a LOC gold member and eventually paid £212. Yes it is more than an independent would charge but I did get a brand new Lexus IS250 SE Nav courtesy car with 740 miles on the clock for 24 hours and used about £15 worth of their petrol, so all in all it hasn't worked out a lot more than a non-Lexus service.

  5. Time to retire my old nokia phone (held together with sellotape). TMobile are offering the Nokia C5 as part of a basic £10 /100 mins package that in most respects is all I need, but does anyone have any experience of using it with their hands free set in in IS? The Lexus phone compatability chart is not exactly bang up to date (only to August 08, I think), so of course the C5 is not listed there.

    Hi Michael

Note sure about the Nokia C5 but my new Samsung Galaxy S works fine, and you can transfer contacts from the phone to the Lexus without any problems.

  6. it works perfectly WOHOO!! i burned a disc at the weekend and even added a pic of the IS250 as the background and it plays great. you do need to have the unit hacked to see the playback on the move tho, but it does work. i am now in the process of burning all my music onto 4 discs!!!!!

    great tip, thanks very much!!!!

I can't get it to work, what type of blank DVD media did you use?

    Thanks much,

    Matt

I've used many different discs either dvd-r or dvd-rw, cheapo Bulkpaq, Aldi's own brand and Imation to name but a few, all work perfectly.

The program itself is not the easiest to use - I would have liked a 'drag and drop' function, but overall it's well worth the money, 25-30 mp3 albums on one dvd is the solution to those of us who don't have the usb port. If you're interested in getting this program, google 'audio dvd creator', a link on the right hand side of the results will give a discount with RegNow.com - currently at 10%.

  7. Hello all I bought a 2006 IS 250 sport last month and as with many others have suffered from a number of interior rattles.

The biggest annoyance was the drivers seat which creaked loudly everytime I went round a bend and was slowly driving me insane!

I decided to try and fix it myself as the car is now out of warranty and was originally going to try to perform the TSB where you remove the seat locater pins.

However I found that all I needed to do was tighten the four bolts which hold the seat to the rail with a ratchet and all the noises disappeared.

Hope this can be of some help to anyone suffering from similar issues.

    Cheers,

    Sean

Hi Sean and welcome to the LOC. Thanks for the tip, I don't have any rattles or seat creaks, but if the seat plays up I'll know what to check first!

  8. So, having driven a 1.6 Sporthatch Astra for the last 3 years, I decided to upgrade to a premium saloon. The choices? The usual really... BMW 3 Series, Merc C-Class, Audi A4...or maybe a Lexus IS250. Obviously I went for the IS250 and what a great decision it was! Such a good car, and with the MM it's so mch fun! Why did I choose the IS? Because it's a little bit different to all the others. So, I was wondering, what was the main reason for you all to buy the IS?

Hi Benc103, welcome to the LOC forum.

I also have the IS250 MM, but with the sunroof. I was originally looking at the diesel, but after reading the horror stories on this forum decided to go for the IS250 SEL auto. Reasons are: as you say it's different to the BMWs, Audis and Mercs that you see on every road, the build quality, the 'extras' you get as standard, the reliability and the refinement of the drive. When first looking at the spec I wasn't bothered about some of the extras, but know having owned the car for 6 months, I couldn't live without them.

    Happy motoring!

  9. I know they have to make a living, but one ally refurb. and a wash and hoover. It still has five months manufactures warranty. So they just have to find a buyer.

If only it was as simple as a wash and hoover and make £3500!!! Let me tell you how a dealer works its margin:

    £3500 - VAT = £2975

    £2978 - Warranty extension £560

£2418 - two hours workshop approved pre owned cheque £186

    £2232 - Pay salesman's commission and Valet car £200

£2032 - Most customers want a deal on the car so minus at least another £500

Total margin £1532 not allowing for any other prep work tyres service pads ect.

There you go the secret is out the average used car profit per unit in the Lexus network is between £1200 and £1800.

That is really eye opening... and thinking about it makes total sense, are you a Lexus employee or generally in the trade?

  10. hi there. my drivers side front and rear door was done a little while ago. if you google sprayless scratch repair that will give you some local people who do this, they did my 2 doors and only charged me £30. what a bargain. well worth trying first before you shell out the bug bucks.

    Hi Phil

I too have had my car 'keyed' and am looking for a similar 'bargain' fix. I googled sprayless scratch repair and a multitude of results came up, can you remember which one of them was the one that did your car? Would be much appreciated if you could remember the name of the website.

  11. you wil see it works, audio dvd creator burns 700/800 audio file's on one dvd, you can make your own background.

the program make's á dvd film. it works on every dvd player.

there is also a menu for folders and you can scip forward or back with the buttons on the steringwheel. you also can select songs in the menu by yousing the touchscreen.

I hope sombody has as much pleasure with the program as i do.

Well it seems everything 'renegade' says about this program is spot on. I've only tried the demo which does have limitations - only the first five tracks of the first five albums are 'burnt' to disc. I did this and put it in the ML DVD system and it plays perfectly.

I'll be investing my $39.95 (£26) in this little beauty of a program and finally enjoy mp3 DVDs in my Lexus. Thanks to 'renegade' for the tip.

  12. I don't normally post on the IS forum but whilst collecting my Type IV transmission fluid yesterday Sean the parts manager mentioned he had a brand new set of side skirts for the IS220/250 in "Cadoxton Slate"

I don't know if these are a standard fitment or an optional extra but if any one is interested feel free to call him at Lexus Derby.

Thanks to Janey for allowing me to post this for the benefit of other members :D

    Going cheap? How cheap?

  13. Sadly my 250C was hit *hard* in the rear by a van on the motorway last week. However, the crash protection performed very well and though the car looks like its totalled, I'm still here. The doc confirms whiplash, but believe me, things could have been much worse.

    Take care folks

So sorry to hear that but like you say, it could have been much worse. Sounds like you're in for a nice bit of compo though... :winky:
