  1. I had the same dilemma and in the end opted for the IS250 SE-L auto after reading some of the horror stories on this site about the diesel. Very pleased with the car in the 18 months I've had it. No problems whatsoever including rattles and cracks that others on this forum have mentioned.

£10k - well it would be better if you could afford a little more. A search on Lexus for used approved cars to your spec brings up only 1 at just under £10k - a 55 plate SE with 73k on the clock. You could probably get a lower mileage 56/07 plate example for your money from a non-Lexus dealer or private sale.

    Mine averages 33mpg - 2mpg either side of during winter/summer. I do 60/40 motorway/town driving.

It's a very refined drive with the auto box being one of the smoothest you can get. The standard equipment on the SE-L is fantastic and would cost thousands of pounds in optional extras on the BMWs/Audis/Mercs. My only issue is the ridiculous amount of brake dust from the front wheels, and I'm by no means a 'heavy/late' braker.

    Go for the IS250 SE-L auto, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

  2. Hi

I hope you can help, I'm planning on selling my Lexus (more than likely privately) for personal reasons. Will miss it as it's been a pleasure to drive, rather than the waiting Peugeot 205 I have waiting!

Anyway, I was looking for your opinion on how much I should advertise it for?

It's a 57 Plate Lexus SE-L, Cadaxton Slate with Cream Interior, with Multimedia. 34k on the clock.

    Look forward to your replies.

    Thanks

If you can get it in showroom condition - like a Lexus Used Approved - search the site for the same car, same year and similar mileage. Whatever their price is go £2k lower, and then be prepared to drop some more.

  3. Hi folks

I have checked through the forum for answers around my issue and none of the answers seem to relate to what i have found. Her is the scenario,

When the car has just been started and is cold the car will idle perfectly at around 800 rpm. This continues until the car gets warm enough to engage the first level of the heater fan. When the internal fan comes on at level 1 the revs then rise to around 1200 rpms. If i was to switch off the fan altogether then the engine revs drop once again to 800. The AC button can be active or not it does not make a difference, it is only the heater fan in the car that makes this happen. This does not apear to be anything to do with the temperature of the engine as this happens even after a couple of hours run.

If anyone has come across this problem before i would be interested in hearing from them. Again i will say that this is nothing to do with the engine temperature and electric chokes and CATs etc.

    IS220D 06 plate

    Regards

    Kevin

This is quite normal, its not a problem. With the AC on from a cold start, the heater sensor knows it isn't yet warm enough to blast the air through. As the engine heats up the blower levels rise and in turn require more power, hence the revs rise to provide more power to the Battery to supply the higher levels of AC. Of course when you switch off the AC the revs will drop again as there is no need to power the AC. When the AC temp setting is reached, the blower (if on auto) will subside and the revs will drop down to a more normal rpm.

  4. Just had the 40,000 service on my IS 250 Auto, new front disks fitted ( first time ) new pads all round, all filters and fluids changed and MOT, all for just under £600. Quite happy with that , any comments ? :shifty:

Was the work carried out by Lexus? If so, that's a bargain price.

  5. I am thinking of purchasing an IS250. I thought the 'Fixed Price Promise' from Lexus was good (see Lexus web site). What do you think?

    Front Brake Pads £119

    Front Brake Discs (Pair) £199

    Rear Brake Pads £99

    Rear Brake Discs(Pair) £199

    (Parts and fitting labour)

I'm afraid not - those prices are for the IS200, IS300 and RX300 only, with RX300s registered up to 03/2003 qualifying for these prices.

  6. Agreed. These small changes make a huge difference. Looks awesome. I was at Lexus woodford last week :)

Ahh so you probably saw the same car! It really is a massive difference isn't it, do those corner spats fit on any bumper or does the F-Sport have a different front bumper?

Is this the 2011 model with DRL's and the new front lower bumper, or the F-Sport 20th anniversary model like mine?

Yeah this was the 2011 model, looked identical to this:

Thanks for the pic Parthiban. Yes it does look awesome, and is that a sunroof I see? I thought they were discontinued but it would be great if Lexus has reintroduced them as an option.

  7. Hello people! Your learned advice would be appreciated - has anybody else had this...

Normal:-) I am coming to a stop on a hill the IS will creep and I brake and I come to a stop it will then hold without braking. Thats what I consider normal on an auto box (Is that right?)

Unusual :-( Lately I've been finding that I come to a stop and then when I release the brakes the car rolls back and it won't hold - or if I try again. Time to engage the creaky footbrake.

This was on quite a steep hill if that makes any difference??

Worse still today I was going up a steepish hill and as I approached the junction I braked to stop.. the gearbox did'nt hold - I rolled back and to my slight alarm the traction control light started blinking while

rolling back - never seen that before!!

Is this a problem anybody else has had?

    Many thanks

    Marcus

It entirely depends on the gradient of the hill. A slight gradient and the car holds, a steeper one and the car will roll back. This is entirely normal for my IS250 and I suspect all of them. As for the traction control light coming on, I've never let the car roll back enough for this to be activated, but if the car rolls back for some distance then I guess it's normal for the light to come on.
