  1. Well i finally got the last part of my induction kit through the post this morning, a brand new pipercross filter :winky: . The rest of the pipe is already assembled and waiting to go on. only problem is im currently 83 miles away from it all, im in doncaster till sunday night/monday morning :shutit: ......As soon as im home and its fitted i will upload a photo. Just need to give the rest of the engine a bit of a wipe over as the induction kit is all shiny and new lol. keep you all posted.

  2. Oooh now that looks nice :winky: . Do you know what kind of enclosure holds that sub ie: ported/sealed/what size/shape? A lot of questions i know but i want to change mine and obviously the IS200 boot isnt the easiest to let bass through into the car lol . I might try turning my enclosure round to face into the hatch and see if that makes much difference untill i can sort a new setup.

  3. Im considering changing from a single 15" sub to a pair of 12" subs, one each side, as i just cant seem to get the bass through into the car like i want it due to having a solid sheet of steel behind the rear seats. Im using the same sub and enclosure that i have used in the past 3 cars i have owned and in all the others the bass was awesome but not in the lexus. What do you lot have in yours? Maybe upload a photo? It'd be good to see how many different installs there are out there in the is200.

  4. hi are you sure the milage shown on the clock is correct it could be valve seals easy way to check this when your on the motorway get up to 70mph with the car in a low gear engine about 5000rpm check in the mirror make sure the road is clear take your foot of the throttle with the car still in gear this will cause a depression in the manifold and draw the oil down the valve stems as the revs drop to about 3000rpm put the throttle down hard and look in the mirror and see if there is a puff of smoke if there is it will point to the valve stem seals

hope this helps a little tony

hi tony, thanks for the reply. the milage is correct to the MOT certs i have and the HPI report. i have tried this and there is no smoke when i do as you described so still none the wiser. thank you for the advice though and to everybody else. looks like a trip to the garage for me then ha ha

  5. Hi

Ive had the same problem, electric mirrors have been working fine until it snowed! now only driver side closes.

tried WD40 but to no avail!

unfortunately i cannot help any further! sorry!

Ok thanks anyway. Hopefully somebody will be able to help us both ha ha

  6. Since all the snow, ice and salt have been around over the past couple of weeks my electric mirrors (is200) have become slow and sometimes reluctant to open. I think it may be something to do with the amount of salt/grit that has been strewn across the motorways here in the midlands but obviously i cant be sure without taking them apart. That brings me to the question  , ive noticed there are 3 screws on the underside of each unit, if i undo these will the unit come off (apart from wiring) to enable me to see inside them? Hopefully its just going to be a case of cleaning them and they will be back to speed again. Any help greatly appreciated.

  7. you can buy all you need from ebay...............all you need is a 90 degree bend(approx 63mm) from the throttle body and some stainless tubing heres a pic of my modd'd one.....

ok thanks for the reply. another question though, if i cant find the pipes with the sensor conections how do i go about fitting the sensors as obviously you cant just cut a hole and expect it to be a tight seal etc.

  8. u can get all the parts of ebay like silicone pipe and ally tube its all on there u just have to shop around i priced one up once and came up with a price of around £60

the only thing u have to get is the airfilter of ur choice

what diameters are we talking as ive searched lexus induction, is200 induction etc etc and i only ever get shown the full kit for £240+ which i cant afford. did you manage to get yours seperately then? thanks for the speedy reply by the way

  9. Hi. I really want to fit an induction kit to me lexus but cant afford to shell out the £240+ to get one. Is there a way i can fabricate my own system? And if so how much to do it and where would i start? I have tried eBay but their all about the same price on there. I cant seem to find anywhere that sells just the piping. Any ideas?

  10. I have found a site called AMSOIL and one of the articles states as follows........

    Dirty Oil

Failure to change the oil at proper intervals or to take proper care of the oil filter may cause the oil to be so dirty that it will promote clogging of the oil passages in the piston rings and pistons. This will increase the oil consumption as described in "Clogged Oil Passages". Dirty oil will also increase the rate of wear on bearings, cylinders, pistons and piston rings. All of these worn parts, as explained in individual items on each part, will contribute to a further waste of oil. Note: as a rule, dirty oil by nature is also consumed at a higher rate than cleaner oil.

When i bought my Is the oil was pretty grim and thick which is one of the reasons i had a full service done straight away. Could this be the cause then? I generally use a higher octane fuel and have used a fuel system cleaner a couple of times so confused as the system theoretically should be clean....

  11. Approx 600-800miles a month and mostly motorway as i work in birmingham but travel up to doncaster and back quite a bit too. I dont drive hard either as its not the most fuel friendly of engines is it :shutit: . I used to drive a vectra gsi (v6) which i never had to top up the oil. As all my previous cars my lexus is and will be regularly serviced so still unsure as to why the frequent topups.

  12. What grade of oil are you using? 5w-30 fully synth?

How many miles has your IS200 done? Over 100k? I reckon the oil you are using is too thin and is being burnt (5w-30 oil may not be good for a high mileage engine?). Might be an idea to switch to 10w-40 semi synth?

Its a 1999 plate and done 88k. Im using 10w-40 already as thats what the book states and also the garages stated it too.

Would an oil catch tank make any difference do you think? Maybe it wouldshow if any is getting through the intake and being burnt like you say.

  13. Hi guys. I seem to have to top up my engine oil every so often as the oil light comes on. I check the level and its gone down so have to top up. I have no visible leaks as no oil is under the car on the floor and it doesnt seem to smoke from the exhaust, all i get is the steam for a minute on cold startup. I generally have to put in approx half a litre every month. I do a fair bit of motorway driving so i know its not getting sludged up inside and it was flushed and changed a couple of months ago with new filter. This happened before the oil/filter change too as when i bought the car the oil was thick/black and sludgy so i straight away took it for a full service. Like i said though there are no visible leaks and no smoke so i really am out of ideas. Is it normal to use this much oil? Oh also the water cap it clear too so no oil getting in there.

  14. I recently changed my rear discs and pads on my is200 but in doing so i managed to knacker up a spring on each side that holds the handbrake shoes in place. does anybody know if i can purchase these springs/washers/clips from anywhere else but a lexus dealer as they only do a complete kit including shoes for about £140. the shoes are fine its just a spring and a washer/clip. i had to back off the handbrake as the rubbing noise was driving me mad. its still not a pretty sound but so much better than before... oh the handbrake is still working so its not an MOT failure and is still legal, just noisy!!

  15. Morning all. Now this may seem like a daft question to some but i think i'll take a wild shot at saying most have this same problem..... How do you guys and girls manage to clean the inside of the rear screen right down to the bottom behind the speaker grills?? Now ive not got the fattest hands and arms in the world but i find it really difficult to get my hand and a cloth behind the grills to clean. Any tips on how you do it will be greatly apreciated.

oh by the way mine is a 1999 IS200

    Dave
