Switched live in the engine bay
BillNick replied to dr_rick's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Hopefully you are still around to pick this reply up 3 years on...? Do those LEDs come on with engine on? If so, do you know where the autoelectrician took the 12v from? I am retrofitting a harness to convert OEM fogs to DRLs and need a 12v which is only live with engine one (as per MOT regs). Thanks -
Great thanks for that, saves the embarrassment of failure. I will try figure a way of making them still operative by using multiple relays, or simply plug the OEM loom back into them before each MOT.
-
I believe front fogs are not an MOT requirement, only a single red on the rear is needed. So if I wire them up same as DRLs (shutting off with sidelights on and using LED bulbs).....no different to those cars you see with the DRLs down in the fog position I am thinking? Eg Volvo, Toyota Prius..... If there are any MOT testers here that can put me right, happy to hear from you.
-
Have you been through an MOT with them yet? I am looking to wire up my fogs as DRLs.....modified a HID harness reversing the relay as "always on" and off when sidelights provide 12v.

VLINE VL2 Install

I also had the same feedback RE my mic, however I let calls go through to the OEM phone - problem solved. I am told putting the mic in the middle of the roof, behind centre interior light is better but havent tested myself. Ensure its not touching the windscreen too. As with the GPS....mine plugged straight into the unit no problems.....did you buy the unit new? Contact GROM is the terminals don't match. -
Tip for pushing piston back is to do it with a flat head screwdriver BEFORE removing the old brakes. Using the inspection hole on the caliper, slot your screwdriver in between the disc and the INNER pad and lever the piston back in side. Screw a wheel nut back on to secure the disc. Do this with the reservoir cap removed and ONLY if you are replacing both discs and pads and obv screwdriver will damage the parts. Have used this method on many cars....

My alternator failed. Before it did, I had the following symptoms which lasted for approx 500 miles. After a long enough journey (up to temp), there was a distinct smell of electrical burning coming off the front end once I had parked up on the drive. Then came the whining on a cold start. If you have looked after your IS250 and your engine is silky smooth and quiet like mine usually was (and is once again), then you will know about the whine as soon as it starts to happen. Annoying as hell! When you get either of these symptoms, get it replaced. When the battery light came on, I went straight home. Left it on the drive until it was booked in for a replacement and then drove it once approx 2 miles to the garage with no problems. I guess I had enough juice in the battery..... I wouldn't replace it until you get sure signs its on its way out......no point.

All good, no worries

Looks pretty good and more reflective of a modern day car menu like you say I assume the speedo uses the GPS connection? Can it be swapped for alternative graphics? Say the 'L' logo?

It is for 8.1 yes I am not too sure on what might happen....as I installed it after installing the hardware itself so couldn't even tell you of any differences to previous firmware's. Do you have a link to Cargamma please? I do think the standard platform is a bit dated. Cheers
-
That is strange.....2m is just about right anyway unless you plan to go further than the center consol. Are you up and running now then? Give me a shout if you need the firmware upgrade...

Sorry I missed this....did you get a cable?

Well done getting your caliper off and free'd up. I ended up replacing my caliper when this happened to me, however I now have the old one free'd up and am fitting new slide pins to sell it on (sold). Can anyone tell me which way around the boots shown in the pic below go please? I am working on the caliper off the car and my mum has borrowed the car for Xmas so cannot look for reference. Is the bigger boot for the top or the bottom pin? And can anyone describe which way around it should go please? I can see the bigger boot has 2 collars, one fatter than the other. Thanks, Bill

Hi all, I think I have lost 1 of my 2 keys...have searched high and low but no sign as yet. Have read a few threads about the main dealer being the only option, however the latest post was 2017 and it mentioned getting hold of Techstream and programming an 'erased' 2nd hand key. Has there been any progress on the options for replacement key fobs? Can anyone update me on the latest method and cheapest way to get one please? Thanks Bill

Hi all, I have some kind of 'flapping' sound coming from the rear of the car which only starts when I go fast enough, say 60mph +. Like a piece of cloth or something is attached to the bottom of my car (its not). Under 60mph, no sound at all. It's hard to properly pinpoint it as you are trying to trace it with your ears as well as drive at up to 70mph, however I think its from under or around the drivers side rear wheel / arch. Its just been in for a service and I asked the garage to investigate and they said they re secured some under trays....however, straight on the motorway yesterday and its still there. Gonna jack it up this weekend....any hints of things to check first? Finally, has anyone had any aftermarket spoilers creating noise at speed? I have one on my boot and a roof top one also....but the appearance of the 'flapping' sound and the fitting of the spoilers do not coincide with one another......just a thought though. As always, your help is appreciated. Billy

2m Ive got some slack that I can pull out and poke back into the centre consol again, but I wouldn’t get less than 1.5m

I drilled a hole in the bottom of my cup holder behind the gear stick. The phone sits nicely upright in there Brought the cable through from the glovebox under the bottom left corner of the stereo unit and along the centre consol

Do you have a link to the bulbs which you bought so I know they are dimmable? Not all LED are dimmable Infact, if you wouldn't mind, PM me links to your logo door lights, boot struts and bulb upgrades please? Thanks Billy
-
Certainly does, thank you v much. Final question (sorry), do you LED puddle lights fade in and out like the halogens do as standard? Or did adding LEDs mean they are now on and off only?
