  1. aha ! ............. just the car ?? Malc happy Christmas to one and all
  2. It must be worth at least £25 ............... when I bought mine ( from Poole Dorset too ) in June 2011 with 123k miles I paid £1400 with Full Lexus Service History discount depreciation etc and no clear record of service history, like has the cam belt ever been changed etc ... deep discount to say, £25 book value hahahahahahaha ... she'll probably fetch £2500 or so ....... looks a very fine specimen and same colour as mine too if it's Aspen Green ..... bit difficult to tell tbh will do someone a fair treat ..... but the existing vendor has only had her since this year, 2020 .... and 5 owners over 25 years for a Ls400 is quite a few Malc
  3. so sorry to hear about your troubles with Oponeo When I ordered tyres they were at a great price and delivered to their / and my local fitter, worked out well I'm pleased to report Please don't blame Brexit for all these woes with cross border hold-ups .......... I think it's covid issues but I'm just waiting for the Calais port workers to just go on-strike over whatever too Lucky here in the UK that we only import 10% of our HGV hauled stuff via Calais eh ! Don't know what all the fuss is about Dover / Calais .............. just avoid the places maybe ........ there's loadsa capacity elsewhere in the UK it seems I must admit I relish the prospect of Cornish lobster, scallops, crabs etc being available at better prices in England when the export markets to Parisians to eat just " dry up " yummy Malc
  4. have you tried Oponeo on-line for your tyre ? Malc
  5. success ?? Malc
  6. try a cut potato surface ! ............ that might help, maybe it's the starch in it Malc
  7. carry on .... yes, I carried on with mine on my Mk1 for very many years ....... s'pose the issue is that an owner has to very rarely open the bonnet in between taking the car to the garage for service and MOT etc ....................... and the rarity of that seems to loosen the brain cells into thinking " why bother ", the piece of wood will do Maybe an oak or elm stave could be OEM and have been issued by Lexus from new Malc
  8. just re-reading your latest MOT and you seem to have a PAS leak, if this is at the reservoir area above the alternator you really MUST get that fixed asap coz the leak WILL burn out your alternator ......... and that really is quite expensive and will come suddenly and immobilise you fairly instantly it's happened to a few on here ( me included ) and is in the warnings section, the first post just above this one in this section of the Forum Good luck Malc
  9. I think you'll find they are unpainted from new and matched the original wheel paint colour .................. 27 years ago tho' Malc
  10. you'll find a wealth of useful info about your car model, the Mk2, on here, it's worth checking the cambelt and waterpump have been done in a reasonable timeframe especially, ( 100k miles ) / 10 years to make sure she stays " sound " I think the original wheels are very very suitable for your car might you tell us what you paid ?? Malc
  11. many congratulations on your very sound purchase, the prior MOT looks a bit dodgy but clearly she has passed the current MOT and you will be keeping her sound and well fed for the future .......... she looks a very smart car I've a feeling I've seen this reg pop up before on this forum as a members car a while back ............or maybe just seen it for sale on autotrader sometime do keep us posted on developments Best wishes with it all and ................ good luck Malc
  12. and latest from Royal Mail is that it's busier than ever and that's why post is taking so long at this festive time ! gave a fiver, yes £5 to my gf to airmail post 3 small Xmas cards, 2 to Australia and one to Singapore I owe her 10p ..... £1.70 each 😵 Malc
  13. here we are, 231k miles and all I believe probably on cheapest 97 wherever it can be bought with as much power and oomph as any driver could need ...... or maybe that's just the quality of the car ........... little nuances in kickdown etc I don't think I would ever notice ........ she pulls like a train and zips past almost everything else on the road when the need arises fuel economy, blah blah blah ... who worries with a 4ltr V8 anyway Malc
  14. lovely looking convertible, wish I had one for the summer ! My old Saab regn N 4 PRO was a very very sound car, thought it would last me forever, then along popped my first Ls400 regn. J 54 DAP ? Malc
  15. tyre compound too hard for the ambient temperatures you're experiencing ? Malc
  16. Everyone ..... very unfair to just close us all down methinks 😷 I for one find the changes far less easy on the eyes and concentration ........... taking a back-step to the recent past styles and typeface, colours etc would be a good and sound move please Malc
  17. perhaps this specific car has suffered from the nuclear issues that they had a while back ....... does it glow in the dark I wonder does anyone check the cars for that now ? Malc
  18. and I think, I'm sure, I read somewhere recently that Belgium is committing to ALL HGVs being Hydrogen fuelled across the nation Malc
  19. I fully expect BP, Shell, Exxon etc to install the required technology over a sensible timeframe, especially as they are all going " green " and maybe oil free conceptually ! I was reading that BP is trying to increase it's fuel re-filling estate globally to accommodate this sort of thing Malc
  20. and Japan has a dreadful shortage of electricity generally with it's closed down Nuclear stuff and is reverting, the whole country ( and population of @ 95mn ) to hydrogen fuel vehicles in as short a timeframe as possible ................... using electricity for non vehicular purposes alone .......... we in the UK might get to that stage too I did read that with everyone in the UK on meters at some point the Grid will be able to see precise usage and just pull the plug on too much being drained by households at any time ......... so, watch out you electricity guzzling EV owners Malc
  21. most certainly, both the AA and the RAC ( I think ) primarily when I was a mere young lad in my uncle's Triumph Renown traversing the Pennines to the Lakes etc Malc
  22. The Full RAC Breakdown Recovery and Onward travel etc cover for UK and International has proven a godsend on a few occasions, flat tyres and amazingly the alternator going " pop " on each of my current cars, the Ls400 and the Honda Legend They come out when called, ok sometimes a little long-winded with other damn cars breaking down too and pushing my attendance down the line BUT they are excellent at communicating their position ( and mine ) and extremely courteous and attentive and professional when they are with me And of course it seems to now be totally " free " for me, having been a Member for about 54 years approaching ..... I bought the very last of the basic Life Membership when it stopped about 50 years ago maybe ....... anyone remember ? it was covered in the Sunday Times that same weekend and I drove down to the Margate RAC kiosk to queue for the opportunity to purchase Life Membership, about £100 I think, an absolute fortune then Malc maybe I've already regaled you with this
  23. none of my cars have ever ever been garaged ...... except the 1932 Triumph ..... now that is a little precious ..........even when I had a garage it had my Avon inflatable on it's trailer ( long gone ) and alongside a myriad of total and utter useless " junk " Garages are much more valuable for added home storage I'm sure unless of course one has a really really precious car Malc
  24. Didn't the chauffeur in olden times driving his master's Rolls Royce have to be prepared to take the engine apart for running repairs whilst abroad on a Grand Tour ? and all he needed was a big big spanner and a few bits and pieces ...... why has it all got so much more complicated ? The only tools I carry are in the Lexus supplied tool kit incl the spare wheel jack Leaving it all to the RAC to deal with flat tyre wheel changes rarely and a " lift " to my indy when summat very very serious occurs outside of regular servicing and maintenance De-clutter I say ....... and pray a little on really bad bad days Malc
  25. if it really is a Mk1 and not a Mk2 then I know for sure that the cambelt is non-interference and the cambelt change might not be that pressing perhaps Malc
