  1. when I was buying UCAs for my Ls400 I found the actual delivered price was Amayama list price say £100, PLUS about a 100% uplift in cost by virtue of carriage / delivery, Customs Duty and VAT and the Royal Mail £12 ? handling charge for the documentation ................. still then only about 50% of UK Lexus / Toyota price tho' Malc
  2. take advice on changing the tyre size, it might make for an unacceptable ride ...... and the Ls400 is renowned for it's quietness .... even necessary to ensure the V8 burble doesn't appear .. they'll think your exhaust is blowing AND you won't be able to silently creep up on pedestrians in your way either Malc
  3. welcome to the Club a very smart looking car too well done Malc
  4. Chris Knott have proved worthy in times past too Malc
  5. Have you tried Amayama .............. or Rockauto in the USA ? that's where we go for our best value and genuine OEM Ls400 spares these days Malc
  6. Jeez, I would NEVER EVER EVER use AF again ............ in my 54 years of motor insurance buying, these guys are the most unreliable and worst on this earth when it comes to their insurers support when to my mind, a " chancers " fraudulent claim was made against me ........ just my recent personal experience tho' ......... you might want to chance your arm with them 😲 ......... totally unreliable to my mind ...... anyone but would be much much better It's the support one gets when a claim is made that is the most important factor, not just price Malc
  7. the only time I had to wait an extraordinarily long TWO weeks was over the Xmas period 2019 into 2020 Malc
  8. Amayama ordering .... my specifics when ordering the UCAs ......... delivery quite prompt yes ......... final delivered price, was Amayama book price say £130 ... carriage/delivery, VAT and Customs Duty and Royal Mail £12 handling charge ( for the documentation I believe ) = another say £130 ............ yes a 100% uplift ...........and all payable by card when you're told the item is ready for delivery to your address ....... you may need to chase the delivery company too when you're advised by Amayama of despatch / tracking ... after a few days BUT still maybe only 50% of the Toyota / Lexus book price for the part tho' Good Luck with it all Malc
  9. yes I think so ........... Saga have given me excellent prior years service ........... A-drain F ( L ) ucks proved the exception methinks ......... I had other Ls400 insurances from time to time too ... and Saga, god bless them, when I moved to my present postcode mid insce period quite FULLY OOOOVER-LOADED me knowing I couldn't do a thing about it, mid stream, other than pay-up This I did, took my business to someone else following period then eventually back to Saga and hey presto ... my postcode is NOT anything out of the ordinary and premium competitive ...... hence the mid-stream excessive loading at that time was the practice of " chancers and charletons." But I might have mentioned that at the time ...... I've been on this Forum sooooo long Can't see that any FCA or whatever is going to do a single thing about it eh ! Just knuckle down, tighten that belt a little and PAY-UP and for heaven's sake Malc, just stop whingeing Malc But I'm digging my heels in and NOT going on a Saga Cruise, a Saga holiday, buy Saga House insce, nor Health Insce nor Life cover etc etc
  10. Saga said that to me the other day ... then told me to F / O ............ I should have known in advance that I wasn't going to do the usual 12 / 15 k miles this last year .............. anyone used last year's Crystal Ball ? Simply for me, the insurers that aren't being " generous " in retrospective refunds should be actioned against as in the case of PPPI methinks ....... in these specific pandemic circumstances and Govt instructed lockdowns BUT only if someone knows of a Class Action being considered then I'd be interested to hear ............. otherwise I'll accept that the insurers are being their usual self-centred selves Malc
  11. Just a brief update on all this mullarkey ..................... I'm very very unimpressed with SAGA tbh If I have a crystal ball they will reduce my premium for the coming year ( from 20th Feb renewal date ) and I've said I might do 5k miles a year .... who knows ...... and my premium is down to £285 I asked about a refund for this past 12 months as my mileage was tiny and they told me to F... Off ( essentially ) Saga have made it a policy NOT to make refunds ..... I should have told them prior I wasn't going to use the car much in that year ... well, where was my Crystal Ball then !! who could have foretold about Lockdowns etc Their Complaints Dept ( I didn't realise I was making a complaint, I just wanted my query escalated too someone who could help ) have told me the Complaint is closed and I can refer it all to the FCA whatever if I wanted too NOW guys, what do you think ........ is what's happened with car insurance this past year, and for most of us personal drivers only ...... a breach of the insurers fiduciary duty .............. akin to PPI ? If there's a likely thought or opinion on this I might well see if there's a Class Action going on somewhere about all this ! Should insurers get away with improving their bottom line profits at the unreasonable expense of their Policyholders ? ...... as in PPPI ....... benefitting from premiums that policyholders could not get value from I'm overly irritated by all this with SAGA to be sure Malc
  12. remember that I'm going thru' some electrical gremlins right now that could be elusive and simply down to age old deterioration and high'ish miles ..... I hope they can be sorted ok BUT with age related stuff, wiring looms etc and a quarter of a century in the making, well, I'm becoming a realist these days Malc
  13. they do scrub up well BUT no one's bothered to clear the leaves from under the bonnet .... that's the degree of care the present owner gives to it !] Malc
  14. and in my case a few little electrical gremlins that have yet to be fettled by somebody really really competent Malc
  15. I should explain .... they showed up warning on the dash when there was about 10k miles left in the pads ....... irritating in the extreme Malc
  16. just checked the MOT stuff ......December 1995 car would be a Mk3 ....... mine's October 1995 and a Mk3 ............ it's on the owners private plate then being " M " reg ?!? Malc
  17. Alexander ........... if it doesn't have separate fog lights it's a Mk3 ( they're within the main headlamp lenses ) .... unless it's an import then the front light cluster may be different .... whatever Malc
  18. Good luck with it all ........... any piccys etc ? Malc
  19. Found a potential Specialist at Aylesford in Kent BUT they're estopped from doing stuff coz of lockdown . maybe start again end February they tell me ! Let's wait and see then Malc
  20. I think mine were surgically removed and prevented from showing on the dash quite a long while ago ... they became non-sensical in their operation ...... the annual service shows well in time the need for attention to the brakes etc Just my indy doing what seems sensible on my specific car Malc
  21. Thank you ... I've used the South Eastern Auto ........ at Tovil, Maidstone prior ............. they rewind alternators and such like .......... but wouldn't answer me for mine on the Ls400 BUT I did get a new battery from them for the Honda Legend ... which lasted about 18 months ! .. I didn't see them as Specialists for Auto Electrical gremlins tbh The Caesar guys don't seem to be Specialists in Auto Electrical ( complex maybe ) repairs .... more of a general business it looks to me I actually have now made contact with my preferred Specialist .... on this list too ........... the Aylesford guy ......... he responded to my whatsapp today, just now and given me his email addy to send over the story of the gremlins on my Ls400 ............... they are in Lockdown it seems but expect to be back into doing stuff by end February ................. So thank you to all those contributors ..... Herbs .. let's hope that end February sees me having a sensible resolution to this issue. Ls400s are just so so reliable and generally INVINCIBLE ....... aren't they I'll keep you posted Malc
