alternator brand new would be available from the Main Stealer / Dealer I'm sure ...... but at what cost tho' 😲 I remember my 2006 Honda Legend alternator Brand New would have been about £1k and the refurb / exchange unit ( which I bought ) about £400 ......... and my Ls400 one about the same too What did you pay for the alternator from the first garage ? Was it brand new from the Main Dealer or ? Malc

is this what you want to do then ? under a 12 month old ? otherwise it's more or less scrap to a novice BUT the garage who supplied the replacement now would have undoubtedly done it on the usual, common practice, exchange basis from their supplier ..... and if you want it that bad then maybe you could cough up the silly £160 ...... or do what everybody else would do ..... let the fitting garage send it back as the exchange unit ...... common practice .......... and that would usually reign supreme in any legal argument I would think Malc

just spoken with a very pleasant lady from Saga Complaints Dept ............... I reiterated I hadn't complained ........... they had spoken with the underwriters in this instance , they won't budge on the potential refund ..... max £13.23 ............ 5 months to go till renewal and halving the agreed mileage to 3500 ............. so I pointed out again all the stuff above ...... no-way will their marketing induce me to buy anything further from them .... at this time etc etc ............ so there we have it, a @£400 annual premium for 7000 miles ..... 5 months to go and to halve the mileage to 3500 and it's just worth a miserly £13.23refund ........ which I declined ........... ho hum ... s'pose they have to make profit somewhere ..... we'll just max use the Honda Legend ( this insured car ) for the next 5 months and save the Lexus for " best " ......... hahahahaha .... I so so prefer driving my dear old Ls400 Malc charletons and no-gooders the lot of them ..... may their profits be doused in freezing ice cream

isn't the key to caliper longevity just to make sure they are routinely checked over and " simply serviced " every time you have a service on the car ? Mine have never been replaced in 25 years and 232k miles .. just checked over, adjusted and ensured to function correctly at each service Malc I have full Lexus service history until I bought it nigh on 10 years ago and there's no mention of caliper replacement at all

had a partial change done a few years ago on mine ... 2 ltrs I think and maybe at 180k miles ? Just to " freshen " things up a little .... my indy advised against a greater change volume, nor frequency .. maybe just his gut feeling at the time ....... I don't think there was any science involved in the thinking behind it other than maybe a little fear syndrome ! And all as expressed on here from time to time Malc -
this guy feigned knowing anything about anything methinks 😲 he won't now respond to my simple request to look at my email and whatsapps to even say if he thinks he can consider looking at any of this .... so I guess he just doesn't know what to say or do ! So much for being of any use auto eletrical specialist'wise eh ! If anyone needs to know who to avoid in Aylesford Kent ..... do please ask Malc

yes for sure ... I bought the 3 volumes about 5 years ago from a charity shop .... took Vol 1 on a 2 week cruise ..... 5 years later I'm just half way thru' Vol 1 ........... Might finish it before I die ....... BUT it's quite incomprehensible unless maybe you're reading it in Russian as a mother tongue ! Has anyone ever actually read the whole book ? Malc sorry, more digression

unless of course the car breaks down while you're out driving in it ! I have been, on several occasions, tempted to buy myself a Bentley S3 BUT my indy quite assures me that it will be on the trailer to him for something to be fixed as much as it's not, and not really satisfactorily useable for everyday driving ........ he tells me to just keep my trusty ( mostly ) reliable Ls400 for my usual 12 / 15k miles a year My next door neighbour has, amongst other cars he uses more, a modern day Bentley Continental, 2010 vintage ......... and it rarely goes anywhere, even before lockdown ........ last MOT it had just done 26500 miles from new ...... wot a waste of having such a super car Malc

Redex, fuel additives etc.
Malc replied to Brechin Slate's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I wonder if the Redex they sell today is the same formula of that which I used to pop in a shot ( per gallon ) when I was a petrol pump attendant 50 ( or so ) years ago ................. those days petrol was between 91, 93, 95, 97 and 101 octane ? ........................ and maybe engines needed Redex in those times ? Can't believe engine technology hasn't satisfactorily advanced to obviate the need for this type of additive ..... but hey, how would I know Unless one's an engine engineer and specialist I don't see how one can know ..... unless everyday experience with a specific car / miles tells one otherwise or maybe just intuitively Malc -
there's a few airport runways a little underused these days Malc

and if your prize possession gets damaged whilst in storage for that 6 months ..... no insurance payout for you then ! And I'm happy for the rich to pay taxes ............ . saves the poor like me from digging even deeper into the £164bn the economists tell me I'm sitting on ( along with lots of other golden oldies it seems ) Just my simplistic view ............ not for everyone tho' eh ! BP is in that process I understand ....... developing and expanding it's refuelling estate globally as fast as it can .............. and happy for people to spend lots of time at them .......... it's said to make 50% of it's profit these days from shoppers buying groceries etc at it's refuelling station stores Moving away from fossil fuels profitability as fast as it can sensibly do so Malc
