having had many fitted kitchens over the decades and been generally satisfied with them all I bought privately a secondhand electric cooker about 15 years ago when we moved to a rather " odd " rented house for a while Still have that cooker and in everyday use in our present, also rather odd, 400 ? year old cottage in Kent sadly the eye level grill is out of action and I know it's going to cost some to have it fixed, if indeed it can be ...... a Creda Trimline Four electric cooker, probably about 50 years old now ........ owned it maybe some 15 years or so as I say Doesn't seem possible to buy a new stand alone eye level grill electric cooker these days ... wonder why not ! I don't want to " fit " out my kitchen tbh ...... we enjoy it the rustic higgledy piggledy way it is ( maybe that's why I have a 25 y/o Ls400 too ) Malc

all these negativity syndromes should be doused with a stiff scotch ......... works wonders ....... unless you're Irish when a whiskey rather than a whisky should be the order of the day Malc

Astra Zeneca jab 12th February .......... absolutely fine ( I'm 71 now ) and looking forward to jab no. 2 asap My theory about the EU and other countries buggering about with the Astra Zeneca stuff is: Astra Zeneca at cost price = zero profit for the users, suppliers and investors ...............and recipients a profit on all other jabs of course .. worldwide politicians, crooks, schemers and dare I say the mafia all stand to make profits personally by condemning the freebie, zero profit AZ dose to further their profitable trading in the ( all and any other ) profitable brands for global use Please shoot me down if I'm wrong BUT with the WHO the EU and UK and USA and India Health Authorities all saying AZ is ok then there can be no other rational explanation Malc

it's brilliant that we can use industrial bespoke hydraulic type hose manufacturers .... I remember years ago I had to get a replacement hydraulic hose for a Rolls Royce we had in stock ( my car sales business ) and the part from RR was more than two arms and several legs costwise ....... local hydraulic hose people produced one for me at a then staggering £80, fairly instantly BUT at a fraction of RR price tho' Malc

sounds like pad/disc/shield, caliper maybe, stone stuck in there .......... whatever hopefully ..... an indy is the place to be ..... a quick look to tell you if it's anything more serious than a simple re-adjustment and £25 /50 from a garage near you that really really wants the work ...... on an 11 year old car £140, taking the inspection pee tbh ( + vat ? ) and then to do some work maybe Might of course be wrong, it might be summat very very serious that only a Lexus technician trained eye can discern ........ but I doubt that really I remember my bro-in-law used to take his ( now mine ) 56 plate Honda Legend to the Main Dealer / Stealer for all sorts of investigative work at £120 a visit inspection BEFORE any work was deemed appropriate ....... and done and charged for fully 😲 Best wishes with it all whatever you decide to do Malc

just one of those things when you buy a fantastic car that needs regular, well, every 100k miles attention in this area btw the Ls400 doesn't require this level of maintenance thankfully Malc -
Battery drain?
Malc replied to Scribe's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
well, the Ls400 is the most superior car I have ever owned .... and I suppose the most expensive for me ever too ....... to maintain over 10 years and 110k miles ......... must be at least £150 a year in OEM replacement parts and full servicing ................. we all know a BMW or Mercedes would have cost half that ......... likewise a Ls430 or a Ls460 ...... and a Ls600 much much less of course Malc -

modern cars can sure have too much silly technology ........ closing the boot manually............ can't often need super technological electronic assistance ( for most people ) That's where our old fashioned, low tech but super doopa Ls400s come into their own I guess Malc -
I changed to a Vaillant boiler a few years ago now, been trouble free, at the recommendation of my plumber ....... his was 15 years old at the time and he couldn't recommend it highly enough ............. serviced annually, now clearly out of warranty so fingers xd Malc

Tesco's is fine ,,,, as we were desperate for another cuppa I didn't do my usual research before going out spending ....... and not the cheapest kettle in the " line up " normal years warranty and it looks good AND it works Malc

Breville electric kettle .... a gift from daughter a while back ....... thought it was the toaster going " bang " having just made a cuppa ... BUT it was the kettle .... and it blew the fuse board NOT the fuse in the plug ... how dangerous could that be ...... I tried it a few times before realising it was the kettle you know how you plug in another small appliance just to make sure the socket is ok and you're not going bananas ! YES, the fuse still intact and not blown in the kettle plug ......... into the rubbish bin Bought a replacement good looking simple stainless Tesco branded kettle for £12 .... works a treat, makes a good cuppa Miele, always had them for everything when i was married to my German wife ... dishwasher, washing machine, tumbler, fridge, freezer, vacuum cleaner and anything else she could make me spend my money on with Miele product ....... they always seemed to work blissfully well ... just emptied the bank balance from time to time Malc

and my knees too ! Malc sorry, too much attempted humour -
only ever driven two BMWs .. fine cars at the time ... a 540i that was a dream to drive ( I didn't own it thankfully ..... the gearbox went one day ) and an old K reg 318i saloon ........ wow, like s..t off a hot shovel ..... brilliant car ........ one we owned at my garage sales business long long time ago Malc

it simply is ............. I'm on my 3rd Ls400 after a Mk1 and Mk2 and this Mk3 I have had 10 years in June and now at 232k miles ........... always my main car, 20+ years and probably driven about @250k miles in one or t'other ! I thankfully learnt very early in life just which is the very best car to own and drive Malc
-
Beware ....... I don't know the Honda Accord you're referring to HOWEVER I do also have a brilliant 2006 Honda Legend, an awesome car really BUT it doesn't ever give the comfort and drive level that my Ls400 provides Malc

I'm trying, quite unsuccessfully mind you, to track down a posting I made quite a while back when I bumped into a guy locally ( to where this specific Ls460 might be ) who had bought himself a silver Ls460 and I mentioned to him the potential gearbox issue re the radiator ........ I can't remember fully what he said BUT he had the dreaded failure on his Ls430 and thought it wouldn't happen on his, new to him Ls460 ......... but it had started to cause issues and I think he said he had the radiator sorted and saved the gearbox ok Really strange coincidence to have another silver Ls460 around the corner though I shan't go see it just in case I'm foolishly tempted to change it for my beloved Ls400 Malc

Headlight moisture and intermittent light failure
Malc replied to willydoit's topic in Lexus SC430 Club
In olden times a simple trick was to gently loosen off / remove the weather sealing / grommit part at the bulb insert area and turn on the lights to generate heat to dry it all out, then pop the grommit / sealing part back .............. perhaps even leave it fairly non-air tight anyway to enable any moisture to never build-up ! But that was with olden style cars where headlights were generally of a simplistic design and style and headlight bulbs actually generated a little heat too It was all so simple, perhaps it hasn't really changed ? Give that a try maybe and see how it all goes .... and it's free of cost too if you can get to do that yourself maybe Malc -
presumably you're not wanting to pay the Main Dealer prices ? and if not then where are you in Greater London, that might help with someone's suggestion ! Good luck Malc
