  1. I think an older Rolls Royce or Bentley could well fit that category ... a total moneypit forever ...... and a day, total unreliability for the average guy............ Malc
  2. isn't it totally bonkers when the cost of replacing parking sensors is nigh on the value of the car oh for the old fashioned and timeless simplicity of relying on eyes and mirrors to park eh ! Malc like on mine
  3. I'm on just my 3rd ........... and continuous Ls400 ..... 10 years with this Ls400 replacing an earlier Mk1 and Mk2 and 20+ years as my main cars Buy yourself an oldie, you shouldn't be disappointed nor go broke in the process of owning and running one Malc
  4. alcohol for me is only ever drunk from a crystal vessel, be it a tumbler ( several sizes ) or a cut crystal beer glass ........... some spirit alcohol bottles are so pretty these days it's often a shame to decant it from the bottle .. Cest le vie Malc
  5. ................. and ultimately it's in the wear and tear and credibility of the manufactured engine ......... mine's covered a mere 232k miles and never to my knowledge had any engine oil additives in its long and illustrious life ........ using Wilko own semi-synthetic engine oil these past 10 years and 110k miles and usually supermarket own simple unleaded petrol Am I worried about oil additives and if they can give me longevity and whatever else ............ certainly not ........ why should I, it's all in the eye of the beholder and user Malc
  6. OMG I'll have to drink a whole decanter full as soon as I fill it then ! ...... Hadn't realised the intoxicating power of lead crystal ,,,,,, does that apply to non antique crystal decanters too ? I have very many decanters but only use a handful ......... 5 at a time for port whisky and brandy usually, but I do have about 30 in total as I'm a serial hoarder of crystal ........ tumblers, and jugs and flower vases ...... does orange juice do similar when in a crystal jug ? Malc
  7. just dented their profits a little .............. or a lot, and it's bitterly cold too, as cold as ice cream I'm sure ..... new Honda Legend windscreen had to be fitted yesterday under the insce ..............but I contributed the usual £75 ? excess of course Malc
  8. partial to many whiskies and whiskeys ............. port, sherry, madeira too .............. but I keep mine in crystal decanters ....... I feel they should taste better that way Malc
  9. I remember my 1988 F reg Vauxhall Carlton had the radio aerial buried in the glass of the windscreen ........ seemed innovative at the time Malc
  10. Happy Birthday to everybody who has had and who may have a birthday this year 2021 ................. to all those others, well, you'll be amazingly happy too Malc
  11. well, I'm in your middle range and sometimes feel 18 ............... but often a little older and sometimes even 80 .... whatever that might be like ! I'm wanting to feel 18 all the time tho' ....... maybe the " wolf in sheep's clothing " syndrome, a bit like running and performing at full blast .......... and owning a Ls400 for 20+ years .... and sometimes giving a boy racer the time /shock of his life when he comes up against me at the traffic lights whatever Malc
  12. it's far too incredibly complex .......... why can't cars be simpler to use and maintain like wot they woz in olden times ........... going back say 10 or 15 years Malc
  13. my age ... I predate Lexus by a mile or several ................. and I'm younger than my 1932 Triumph Southern Cross Sports Tourer .............. by several miles or more ......... Malc
  14. hey.. all done and dusted .... a Honda badged replacement windscreen installed at 10.30 this morning as promised .............. took them about an hour Malc
  15. I'm just not taking the age extension on the Travel insce right now ...... starts at 70+ and they quoted me £65 from 6th April, same last year too ..... if i get to travel overseas then I'll buy it mid stream ...... my partner is only 67 !!! this June and she's still excess cost free and booked on a Fred Olsen Xmas markets cruise, just a few days, to Germany with her sisters for end November upcoming ............... if it happens I think I maybe get my £13 a month value from using my cards for overseas currency purchases and bills I pay for my business ..... no excess rate conversion costs etc No longer get the 0.5% cash back on the credit card purchases though 😵 Too premature to stop paying ..... I'm sure I'll soon be able to travel overseas ..... whistle down the wind eh ! Malc
  16. 56 plate, 1st September 2006 . just this second had a call from the fitter and it's all on target for me to leave home at 9.30am tomorrow morning He will call me before 9.30am to confirm the new windscreen is with him when he gets to the office ............. the screens come in overnight TBH I'm half expecting it to be delayed ....... these cars are so so rare that having one so readily available defies belief ( in my eyes anyway ) Malc
  17. Nationwide FlexPlus let me down a while ago I had just tripped my front wheel into a hidden dip/ditch doing a challenging countrylane right turn .......... they refused to send anyone to help pull me out ... I was blocking the road and on a bend ...... they told me to contact my car insurers as it was their responsibility to sort me out ! NOT the Nationwide guys Previously the RAC had come up trumps in a similar challenging situation slipping off the A2 on a bus diesel spill So I called the police and they sent a guy out to warn other road users of the danger and a local car driver popped home to get his other car and a tow rope to just pull me clear All that was done in a half hour too Couldn't believe that the car's insurers were going to assist per se ..... Nationwide just let me down ! Malc
  18. Blimey, it looks amazingly " sunk " at the rear Malc
  19. straight down the drain when no-one's looking eh ! seriously, any garage should be willing to take it from you or maybe if you live near a marine works / marina there should be someone there doing an old oil collection service ... for a modest fee tho' I guess Malc
  20. I'm reading this and remember when I first moved here to Queenborough in Kent in 2013 Pilkington owned, or at least bought the company that did, had a bespoke specialist classic car screen / glass making unit .. been here for ever BUT recently moved to somewhere more central for Pilkington's ( I guess ) I went to the " factory " ........... small'ish workshop really and sought their advice on glass replacing the rusting steel sunroof on my Mazda 323f at that time . it was possible but totally uneconomic. I'd have thought this type of Glass emporiun still exists somewhere and maybe, just maybe, at some cost a rear screen could be manufactured bespoke too Hope we never have to find out eh ! Malc
  21. noticed a big 12" crack in the centre of the screen Wednesday .......... Saga the insurer asked how it happened ........... I surmised a stone .... nope, don't know is the answer they tell me OK so onward ... give them the reg. and they tell me everything I know and don't know about the screen ... would they like a photo of the bottom right hand corner showing the car make and many numbers etc . No thank you, that's fine ........... .............. we don't use main dealers or anyone to supply apart from Pilkington that make ALL our replacement windscreens is that just news to me ? Oh, the car is the Honda Legend btw, as rare as hens teeth nearly and couldn't see them having a replacement screen easily in stock ........ much rarer than the Ls400 for sure ..... but if Pilkington's are going to make one bespoke ..... so to the Saga nominated installer AutoWindscreens this coming Wednesday morning ...... YES SIR ........ we'll have it in stock by then for sure Seamless thus far .... let's see what Wednesday brings forth Malc all I had to do was to pay the £70/75 excess by card direct over the phone to AutoWindscreens
  22. your gearbox oil looks water free ? Malc
  23. Bob hi, RAC, well mine anyway, covers both me and my prtnr and any car we happen to be even a passenger in ( I think ) when the need to call occurs .......... always had brilliant response, recovery, courtesy taxi too ... and it says overseas too but never used that aspect .... I think overseas recovery is limited to what it might cost to recover compared to vehicle value ............ doesn't apply to the car occupants tho ..... they're absolutely priceless ( or valueless ) whatever My Ls400 is 25 years young too Malc
  24. Malc

    Jab

my 12 year old granddaughter suffers from this ....... haven't reported it yet to the WHO / MHRA ............ her mum and dad had the AZ vaccine .......... is it infectious ? she always blames others Malc
  25. ok all you so called experts ...... have I got to write this off now ? Cat N maybe OR is there some life saving repair guy out there who's as old as Methusula that can Credit a Creda with some more extended lifespan ?? You wouldn't write a Ls400 off after only 50 years surely 😲 Malc
