  1. hahahahaha. is it very very good ? I'm locked out of my facebook stuff ........ oh, how sad Malc
  2. looks ripe for some heavy duty spending on it too Malc
  3. hadn't noticed that before ....... and does it have a sat nav screen too ? ... is it a very very early Mk1V then ? and not what I surmised .... a Mk3 Malc
  4. you're bang in the middle of Brexit there .............. all beers drunk on the ferry will however be Duty Free Malc
  5. but it doesn't really amount to more than a few months HP or Lease financing costs ! that's the overall value of our dearly beloved Ls400s ......... I can only marvel at the fortunes I've saved in not changing my cars from time to time and following the gravy train of " keeping up with the Jones's" .......... anyone called Jones here ? Have you a Butcher's van too ? sorry to upset anyone ........ just a bit passionate about our brilliant Ls400 cars with massive longevity, class and " presence " ..... and relatively tiny maintenance costs too Malc
  6. Oh my ... will my Ls400 last me another 15 / 20 years then I wonder When I lived way out in the country in Kent a few years back I witnessed an elderly sage driving his even then ancient Ford Fiesta around the country lanes ............ he could hardly see over the steering wheel ... guess he had shrunk over the years too ....... thought he was maybe out on his last jaunt ( very slowly ) around his patch before giving up ........ never did see him again ............ AND I thought at the time .......... there's goes me one day but oh so far into the future ... that was then, maybe not so far out these days methinks 😵 Malc anyway our second car is a brilliant 56 plate Honda Legend .... some 7.6 ltrs between us ...... lots of HP ; horses eh !
  7. she looks a very smart car ........... just as a well looked after Ls400 should be whatever the mileage well worth re-commissioning if she still appears the same in todays lockdown storage Malc
  8. this must be an odd thing ......... I was thinking that the involvement of Royal Mail in my order from Amayama was simply the cost of dealing with the UK Govt admin ... paperwork, i.e. putting the UK Govt fees etc paperwork together ..... I don't think there was involvement with Royal Mail in the courier side of things their specific fee was quite small Maybe I was wrong ........... I'm sure the Govt can charge fees wherever it wishes and tell everybody they must be absorbed and cannot be passed on to anyone to pay ............ happens with card payment charges here in the UK ... it's seemingly forbidden by law to pass them on to the user of the card / buyer ...... even tho' they are too collecting vat on those same payments whatever ( sorry I have a gripe about this specific issue with my business ) Anyone from Royal Mail here or the UK Govt that can offer an explanation before we ask for a Public Enquiry ? Malc
  9. such a glorious car ....... just take her out for a spin once a week to mainly keep the cobwebs at bay and everything tickety-boo Malc
  10. sorry .... hadn't noticed this post stopped a year ago ! Malc
  11. those prices are hideous .......... correct tho' I'm sure 😲 ...... thankfully the Ls400 headlight bulbs are only about a tenner for the two and a 10 minute replacement fix Go to and ask Halfords maybe ? Malc
  12. more info with the Ls430 but it's exactly the same issue re the rad water ingress mixing gearbox oil problem ....... it's the car .......... not just the UK issue I'm sure Best wishes Malc
  13. just fair wear and tear of the metal surfaces OR was it really corrosion ?? which in my parlance means excessive rust eating away at it Malc
  14. I'm assuming good regular use of the car doesn't allow detrimental disc corrosion to set-in ? Malc
  15. nothing quite like a V8 Malc
  16. If my memory serves me .. Amayama supply / or supplied, from two sources . UAE and Japan ..... not sure if, following Brexit and new protocols with the eu and Japan, the arrangements could be a little different, even from prior experiences But it's good to know ............ Malc
  17. look out for the good advices on here about maintenance and stuff for a Ls460 ..... specifically the radiator changing issue to preserve your gearbox from annihilation at some stage ....... 11 years old is a good age to think about this sort of stuff tbh Lovely car and with extended warranty then that's good BUT there are issues that Lexus won't ever admit to though 😵 Malc
  18. I don't like to say this BUT when we looked, many years ago now, at Alfa stuff the local Agent in Canterbury had it's workshop full of engines on benches being repaired ..... it seemed to be that the life of a cambelt was usually much much less than the service book schedule .............. we discovered it was safer to renew them every 15k miles max just my thoughts from a while back Malc
  19. I'm understanding there's a HUGE surplus of 2nd hand cars for sale and in storage right now waiting to be sold at some time whenever the market might return .......... thinking you're not to be rushed into believing what some slick sales person might be leading you into Jonathan It's never a seemingly good time ( i.e. inexpensive ) to buy and always a terrible time to sell when one is a private customer .........so the garage will be telling one ! Never enough good and proper stock of the model you're wanting to buy .......... and always a surplus of your specific car if you're trying to sell ( which you're not ) You're of an age Jonathan where you know all the pros and cons and games these car sales professionals get up to Go beat 'em up eh ! Good luck Malc
  20. seems a brilliant thought ........ if anyone knows best about your car then the guys there should ..... provided they are the same engineers still .......... thinking they will relish the thought to have the car back for re-commissioning .......... could be relatively simple and inexpensive ........ might just be a new battery and a couple of hours labour to check stuff over ....... the service records should reveal lots about the car too .... especially checking when the cambelt was last changed etc Malc
  21. thinking about an Alfa Romeo we had on our garage forecourt for sale long time back ........ the front wheels / tyres had flat spots / areas .... not obvious to the eye nor to balancing etc ...... could be the tyres ......... what make / age / miles are they I wonder Malc
  22. have you looked at Amayama ? I used these guys a while ago for my UCAs and they were quite prompt and economic too ...... OEM parts, actually stamped Toyota .......... and about 50% of the Lexus / Toyota UK retail store price too Good luck whatever Malc
  23. possibly Customs Duty too ? Malc
  24. absolutely agree ... reliability to me is the main factor in my motoring I have toyed with the idea of buying a Bentley S3 for some years and my indy mechanic quite assures me ( and I believe him ) that it will be as much on the trailer down to him for " fixing " as I would ever use it on the road .... he also assures me that I would never get the 12 / 15k miles a year reliability and ease of mind that I get from my present Ls400 so there we are, not the ££££ so much, nor the delight of seeing a beautiful old Bentley parked outside, just the ever present knowledge and years of experience that come with owning a Ls400 Malc
  25. I just enjoy drinking from the best ... everyday ..... bit like me not wanting a car for show, just to have the best that's good for everyday use ...... like my beloved Ls400 Malc
