when I used to think about fuel costs and consumption I found that motoring hard at 70mph with a car full of people and luggage returned that magic 30mpg
I'm thinking that's pretty darned good for a 4ltr limo
the rest never worried me ........ guess it's much much less than that poodling around, shopping etc

I've not changed a spare wheel for many years ..... just call the ever super efficient RAC ( they get 10 out of 10 always )
Once had the joy of trying to change the spare on the Mk1 I had ........ god knows how the jack held the car up ........... never again, put the fear of god up me ........ RAC take a few minutes once they're there .... used them a few times for flat tyres .... too many nails around methinks 😲

it's never mad to pursue one's passion ... it might be expensive and a total waste of money ... after all, it's only a car and possibly a moneypit..... but never MAD to do so .... just a waste of money perhaps

Original for the Mk3 I'm told by Toyota / Lexus was an amazingly high quality Yuasa back in the day and often had a lifespan of 15 or more years ..... as is evidenced by a few owners on this forum I believe
You won't get that originality again ?

I understand where you're all coming from
I even bought a whole pad of batteries for all sorts of things for about 99p too
about 20 batteries I believe
HOWEVER ..... are batteries all the same quality I wonder .......... AND there's a little charitable offering in my using Timpsons .......... I'm sure others know the status of the business and it's ethos and employment practices too

Zak hi, I don't know the answer to your DHP wheel colour issue BUT ACLex ( on here still ?? ) from whom I bought my Ls400 10 years ago had DHP wheels on her prior to my purchase
Just a long shot but if you can find him on here and he remembers ..... you may be lucky and find out the answer !

popped into Timpsons to renew the dead battery in my spare key fob £14.95 ...... and the Honda Legend one too
Wondered why the pricing was dearer by £2 for the Lexus ........ goes on car marque, not the car he said !
Dearest is Maserati, Ferrari etc at about £35
Guaranteed a year but could last 3 maybe
No idea the age of the existing old spare fob batteries ... but they used to work till recently ... always check occasionally ... just in case

couldn't agree more ..........
had my Mk3 ( like yours ) now for nigh on 10 years and 110k of the 232k miles now on her .... everyday I marvel at what a wonderful car it is ..... better than my Mk1 and Mk2 before her ....... now some 20+ odd years of a Ls400 being my daily main driver
Confident to take it anywhere ........... used to do 4000 mile month long trips around europe .... and Scotland too .. when we could go places
as you say " Utterly wonderful " ..... confident, comfortable and as fast as you want it to be in those rare moments when you want your wolf in sheep's clothing to be like a wolf......
ENJOY

Please don't think it's ever just about the money
It's also about your experience when a claim is made upon your policy
I will NEVER use AF again simply coz their insurance company, and all around them, to me, wasn't at all honourable and " right " in a claim made against my car insured with them

Had quite a few trips around bonnie Scotland and the now NC500 encompasses much of that journeying ...... it's a wonderful experience in a Lexus of V8 quality ........ I would however guard against midge timing tho' and also note that of recent years the trips have been beset with overseas EU tourists . cars, motorbikes and all .... and hotels B&Bs have been quite challenging ( we never pre-booked just taking a chance each night ! ) .... not so much this year I guess , just substituted with UK trippers
What I would advise is not to rush it all, just allow a couple of weeks as you'll go far off the NC500 beaten track
Enjoy

it seems to also make a difference to the premium if you are keeping your car on the driveway rather than on the road outside your home .... it's cheaper to keep it on the road
But there again, maybe ( inter alia ) it depends too on the postcode etc

oh yes I see, shows how non teccy i am !
Fine interior ... mine's a bit sad by comparison apart from the back seat area which has so so rarely had anyone perched upon those still pristine seats

I shouldn't worry too much about the cambelt ...... it's said to be a change at 10 yrs / 100k miles and I think the " snap " point has been said to be at 150k miles
just make sure when it is changed the waterpump is changed too and the pulleys are checked
Malc
when I bought my earlier Mk2 at 13 years old and 8542 miles the cam belt had been changed at 3100 miles by the previous owner 😊
