  1. if my memory serves me, these specific cars suffered from serious rust rot underside ... MOT reads fine but just check nowt has been covered up A very low mileage for 18 yrs old so it might be a snip ......... or not Just be aware Malc
  2. maybe check if the plugs are due coz for some reason that seems to often bump the price up by a couple of hundred squid ! Malc
  3. a good indicator could be simply checking how many of which model are still DVLA'd ............. in some way ... those road taxed and SORN'd .... maybe MOT'd too with mileage ......... jeez, a complex process I would imagine ............ long time to do unless some whizz can develop a teccy programme somehow that would give some indication of longevity and therefore probably good maintenance etc Malc see I used the English spelling of the word p .......... and that's rare too these days
  4. I think I might be ........... the only brand new car I've ever bought was my 1969 Hillman Imp ........ and I've been driving a used Ls400 for some 20+ years now ( wish I could afford another Hillman Imp tho' ) Malc just remembered my brand new bank car tho' when I worked at NatWest ..... but that doesn't count really
  5. in Faversham Kent today in Preston St by the record shop there .......... think he might be an Audi driver ....... playing the classic " Eve of Destruction " .............. whilst we were supping a coffee at Jittermugs just opposite ...... loved the music too .......... think he was on a trip somewhere today Malc
  6. confused.coom ...........
  7. can't your existing motor insurers help you ... RAC or the AA maybe too ? Malc
  8. I think it depends on the coffee you drink tbh ..... decaff might help relax one 😊 Malc
  9. or indeed trade up to a more practical and sought after Morris 1000 van for transporting stuff around, from the Audi estate ............. and use the Ls400 a lot lot more Malc
  10. might the Mk3 have a specific shaped tray that the battery sits on and might that be summat to consider too ! just a thought Malc
  11. this is the story that I've been reading too in recent times, with photos to match ....... I haven't kept any of it tho' .... there's factors at play here that the general public are being shielded from methinks .... motor manufacturers globally have very very deep pockets to keep brand new car sales moving Malc
  12. Getting in and out can often be an issue for many people with back or leg " issues " I just find my elderly Ls400 spot on for ease of access ........ but that's just me ! I have been in a few SUVs and quite honestly sometimes have challenges as a passenger getting in .............. not so much getting out . I can just fall out quite easily usually Why, why why not your Ls400 ??? ............ you could use your Ls400 as a very respectable, comfortable, reliable daily use car ...... mine is and at 26 years old approaching and 232k miles there's not a better daily use car to my mind ...... mine thrives on being used, only being a bit of a bugger when locked down and underused ...... like many owners have experienced I'm sure Don't keep your Ls400 in aspic, or if you want to for sentimental reasons, then buy yourself a second one for proper use ............. just my view Malc
  13. Paul ............ just picked this up from a Malcolmdc post in the Catastrophic Failures posting section a while back might be useful for you too Malc " Just had the front upper balljoint/wishbones replaced on my Mk 1, but had to get these from Kansas, USA, cos obsolete at Lexus UK and everyone else I tried first! They are known (apparently) for not lasting well. My Garage Man (who also has a venerable Mk 2) warned me of rear radius arm box sections which rust and break from inside, and were apparently a recall item in the dim and distant past! Well done for flagging all these potential disasters "
  14. I think there's a possible blip right now ........ there are mountains of 2ndhand cars being stored, desperate to sell brand new stock and maybe stockpile the p/exs ................ check auction results maybe ! Malc
  15. I would think this to be a very rare car these days and if memory serves then might be on 15" wheels ............ they look the same as the 16" but have one spoke less Malc
  16. might well be a rear stop lamp bulb gone! Often the cause Malc
  17. did they show you the " red " printout ? to tell it needed adjustment Malc
  18. or maybe firm down dealer used car values ! Malc
  19. hahahahaha, solution to range anxiety is to buy a petrol car ! Known for it's usefulness at motoring long long distances with easy and convenient, often infrequent but quick re-fuelling stops Malc
  20. Mike that's so bl..dy terrible for you When my rear door was damaged Saga just wrote her off ....... new door about £1500 ( if one could ever be available that was ! ) but my guy pushed her out ( not too bad a job tbh, accident never chipped any paint as original finish ) but now a Cat N for the future ...... but they ,Saga, gave me some £££ Certainly hope there's a replacement door somewhere close by for you ...... wot a bug.er eh ! Malc
  21. some people worrying about saving a few squid when the plug change is possibly ......... 100k miles, YES 100k miles, often once in a lifetime ....... so buy the best you, as a Lexus owner can afford, it could be your once in a lifetime plug purchase ! and for heavens sake, if it's 8 plugs they can take a little while to change, especially when the end one is almost impossible to shift and get to ..... so get someone with the skills to do it ....... it's quite likely your " once in a lifetime " change ....... and a few pennies, well £££ more Malc
  22. paranoia seems to be setting in methinks ..... you have a fantastic car with everything working as it should and 80k miles is tiny for these cars 12 years old is nowt in an expected lifespan of the Ls460 .............. pop a couple of pills for your worrying syndrome and leave well alone and save your cash for when summat does really need sorting out ................. maybe get a more periodic check of all that strut stuff than the annual servicing and MOT .... for a more regular peace of mind Best wishes whatever Malc
