often living by the sea is not an issue with many modern cares ... even those less so .... mine's 26 years young and the underside is pretty sound .... at 233k miles too and having lived next the sea all it's days
don't over worry about seaside living with a Lexus
Malc
Advisories for a few years too ..... then wallah !! fresh MOT and a pony back-a-d-r ............ the mileage for anew is about right too .. maybe for all 4 eh !
she looks fine but WE all know there's another grand to be spent on the all round UCAs don't we
Malc
Excellent that you've found someone who wants the excitement to work on what is now a pretty rare car these days ....... well done
can you tell us more about them ? hourly rate etc ? the starter motor job is as time consuming I'm advised as the cam belt stuff ... a long long job !
Malc
there's the Road Tax and SORN issues ... MOT too I guess Insurance one can buy piecemeal road cover from various providers ..... maybe check AA and RAC if you're a member
.......... but as above, insurance could be continuous just in case there's vandalism, summat drops on it, gets stolen whatever ... not just road driving issues
good luck in your / her investigations
Malc
simply throwaway when it breaks down ............. does any owner actually ever repair these ?
Throwaway EVs .... that's the way to go
NOW then, where's the recycling lobby .............
Malc
FSH can easily be mis-stated / stamped-up ( fraud ) but MOTs seem to be less able to be fraudulently given these days ..... a change of speedo / dash can still be readily achieved even if she can't be wound-back as used to happen in olden times ....... maybe still does !
If I was sorely tempted to purchase another older car .... which is very doubtful unless catastrophe happened to my Lexii ...... I would try to check all the above and also VIN numbers too making sure the V5 checked out properly too ...... the great thing about these Ls400s is they can be made to look so prim and pristine with a good polish etc ..... which gives the crooks a head start
The price these Ls400s seem to be seeking these days allows car crooks the opportunity to do dastardly things methinks
Just take huge care buying another eh !
Malc
some years back touring europe I could only get E10 and the car drove fine for a few000 miles ,,,,,,,,,,,,, and no issues since with normal E5 so I'm thinking all will be well in the UK with the E10
Malc
you might find the suspension stuff is really quite good for at least another 50/60k miles ..... from personal experience over decades of Ls400 ownership too
she looks a nice car ( pearlescent white ? ) and credit to you for lavishing love and care upon her ... at first I thought you meant that you were 21 years young and I couldn't quite tie that in with your photo

chatting with my indy a while back he told me that in times past he worked for a paint touching-up / respraying company near to the car import area at Sheerness docks.
Many brand new cars had resprayed areas upon landing ..... and maybe still do ............... so one's immaculate finish might be the result of some remedial paint job at the docks ! we maybe don't often think of this when buying a brand new " out of the box " car
Malc
then I guess the re-seller is only making about £500 profit for all his labours if you assess new tyres at @£500 and the sale price at £2750 .... and that's likely to be negotiated upon too !
Maybe a good on-buy for someone then
Malc
nothing inexpensive then like UCAs, Trailing Arms, Cambelt and Waterpump etc etc etc ............ just done the really really expensive stuff to get right
Malc
sorry i jest
I don't really understand this lacquer peeling business you know !
Mine's done 232k miles, been outside for at least this past 10 yrs 100k miles and all lacquer coat is seemingly fine
Is it that panels have been resprayed at some point causing this peeling I wonder ... and mine is original paintwork maybe !
