Lexus ls430
Malc replied to messi's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
then he MUST receive much NEGATIVE feedback, quite legitimately I should have thought Malc -
very slowly maybe I perceive .... looking at it's MOT in November last I've only managed a steady 1500 miles since ........ the Honda Legend had it's fresh MOT yesterday and only did 4500 miles in between .... would normally be strolling on 17k miles between them in a non covid, freedom to travel sort of year ah, roll on the next 12 months to see if we can really really safely travel somewhere eh ! Malc

and I buy their brand engine oil for both the Ls400 and the Honda Legend ...... sorry, shouldn't go off-subject ....... it's too tempting, sorry Malc

I've just so so enjoyed my relatively simple wandering around europe ( incl Ireland ) from time to time over the years .......... the only concern on occasion was finding a petrol station ............ there was always a B&B or small, or even large hotel to stay at en route ...... that was never ever a problem ....... going off the main roads is the key, wandering the country lanes and mountain roads was always delightful and often full of incredible surprises, some of which I have mentioned here in the past ............. dry mountain passes are wonderful in the Ls400 .... always avoided snow and icy roads coz I know from experience here in the UK that's a " no-no " with the impossible handling in those situations BUT everything else is do-able and so wonderful ............. really hope covid doesn't stop me in my tracks for too long BUT I do think it might be wishful thinking that all this tragedy will be behind us anytime soon Keep on praying eh for the return of sensible motoring adventure opportunities .............. touring the UK is great and there's lots of amazing places too BUT it's going to be full of Brits methinks doing the same Malc

many moons ago a guy on here, Chris Vince repaired the ' dead ' screen for the ( I cannot remember which ) on an earlier Ls400 I had at that time he didn't have a phone number available I do remember that ..... maybe if he's traceable on here somehow that may assist I remember driving to his place and he took it out of the car and repaired it on his kitchen worktop .......... worked a treat thereafter Malc

jump on the buses when your there .......... leave the car at home or at the dockside / airport maybe Malc

............... only really used supermarket ordinary petrol for my car(s) over these many years and at 232k miles the Lexus seems to perform quite well with no noticeable loss of power when I'm chasing some smart-arse from the traffic lights, or just ambling around the country lanes / belting down the motorway too I chase the fuel price tbh ..... used E10 once or twice to fill-up when touring somewhere in europe and that was the only petrol available at the pumps ........ did notice at altitude tho' that petrol type could be an issue ........ along the Rift in South Africa say ........ in a hire Toyota Corolla at the time and across the Pyrenees too in my Ls400 remembering shots of RedEx going into cars fuel tanks with the petrol in olden times when I was a petrol pump attendant in my youth ..... one shot a gallon was it ? 1p a shot too ........... wouldn't know if it made any difference .. doubt any of those cars are around today to check-up on Maybe we are now perceiving some imaginary intolerance in our cars' behaviour ... to the benefit of the sellers of additives and more expensive fuels I don't know ( much about anything perhaps ! ) Malc

talking to my indy about these checks ... red is the worry, green is clear .......... red in the front probably needs all the necessary adjustments done BUT red at the rear might not be anything to worry about particularly and one could live with it and not affect normal driving capabilities ....... maybe ALSO take great care with the guys doing any adjustments ........... seized nuts can shear and cause lots of ££££s to replace bits and pieces ... especially with older cars ........... a few days of WD40 type attention before adjusting to the extreme, to avoid shearing issues, might save lots of dosh ........ should there be an opportunity to return to the garage later to finish off any adjustments ................ I left mine overnight once when the adjuster guy thought it might be prudent to allow the WD40 stuff to penetrate and do it's work ....... the replacement bits were several hundreds ££££ on my Ls400 had the nuts sheared ........ next day he managed the adjustments without excess damage to my wallet thankfully Malc

never have the bonnet up to check the oil level ........... if ever it were to need levelling-up ( like that phrase now ! ) isn't there a dash light to tell you ? even on my golden oldie .................. ah, but I do occasionally lift the bonnet to top up the screen wash ...... but jeez that's so rare too ............. maybe I should take more interest in the engine oil colour in between services ...... annual and used to be 10/12k mile intervals usually ......... might just be a couple of 000 miles this next time around tho' what with lockdown and never venturing that far nowadays ... hope that all changes eh ! sorry to digress ... once I get going Malc
-
have taken my Ls400 ( s ) on very many european and uk wide road trips over the years .... usually a month or so and 4k miles a time ........... but this year it's so so different ............ maybe next year if covid becomes less of an issue ........ wouldn't fly anywhere either for heaven's sake, .. in a metal tube with 4/500 others for some hours ..... jeez, wild horses and all that ............... and I own an on-line travel business that's a little in the doldrums right now too ( of course ) A few weeks tucked up in Chequers might not be too bad an option ......... now that would be a brilliant staycation methinks Malc

New Arrival To The Household
Malc replied to Kiefels's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
the red leather is beautiful ............ reminds me of the leather interior, exactly the same colour, of my 1969 Wolseley 16/60 about 50 years ago ! sorry I digress yes, she looks a stunning car and the white sets-off the red amazingly well Malc -
take your time, go off piste too ....... don't prebook, there should be plenty of B&Bs etc enroute .... unless staycationers have booked it all up 😵 a timeless beautiful but midge ridden time to go ............ we used to do 3/4 weeks touring Scotland from home in Kent and take maybe 3500 miles or so we'll get back into it maybe next year I hope Malc

LS400 - Ebay
Malc replied to Alexander-Lexus's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
Often tempted here too but never thought I would never use the car to be honest ..... so what's the point ! I remember Bangers & Cash people had a few BRAND NEW MGs in an auction and they actually fetched very little money ....... they needed fettling for sure BUT they were brand new, unused, aged collectables Then I thought, what's really the point in having a collectable that's never going to be used, coz that's the idea of it and in the end, someone has to just " get rid " too clear up your estate Maybe it's my age .................. just use the cars you have and enjoy to the fullest .... the Ls400 is probably the best to have for all purposes ... fun too with knocking the socks off boy racers who think they're dealing with some old banger ......... that's actually going to show them a clean pair of heels tbh Malc -

Lexus ls430

seems the answer is to simply ask outright if it's had repaired damage and / or Cat recorded damage / write-off AND get the answer or email in writing IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES before buying any car from anyone ........... or dealer ........ even a Main Dealer it seems " Buyer Beware " has never been more pertinent eh ! Malc -
Brad, what can I say ............. you're the envy of many here ....... wot a steal at £500 ......... she looks pretty darned good and with a little fettling could last you forever, the Mk3 ( yours ) is the best for sure ..................... Use her just as much as you can, they are wonderful cars as a daily driver .......... time's slowly approaching when you're maybe going to be faced with some suspension worries but buying the parts assiduously from Amayama and Rockauto will lessen the pain considerably and there's heaps of good advice here from many with knowledge of these issues too Mine's at 232k miles and I'm expecting her to outlast me driving ........ maybe another 20+ years hopefully Certainly the best car purchase you will have ever made ....... zero depreciation and at that price very likely good appreciation and superb driving comfort, reliabilty and silly low expense costwise Well done Malc

just picked up this email guys ....... might there be anything here that assists I wonder ? Noting the mention to check out the fuel hoses .................... " Well the good news is that the technology exists to upgrade the fuel systems to cope with the new fuel. In truth, it’s good practice to renew ancient fuel lines as a precaution in any case and modern fuel hose sold by a reputable supplier is rated for use with E10. not financially methinks ...... an oil rich state with little to really spend it's money on otherwise ......... and a close family business that can and does spend what it wants on whatever it wants, secretively or not, to please or not to please whomsoever it wishes to whatever degree Malc
