  1. Hope you thoroughly enjoyed her too 😊 I've had mine for 10 years now, and driven 110k miles of the now 233k miles she's covered , and before that a Mk1 and a Mk2 Ls400, all concurrently and for 20+ years now and probably covered the best part of at least a quarter of a million miles in them overall .......... marvellous, brilliant, fantastic, virtually trouble free motoring too BUT I have always tried to do preventative maintenance ....... like the cambelt, pulleys, waterpump sorted every 10 years / 100k miles say AND whilst tyre tread is quite ok at 4 / 5 ml mine never got to be underused and suffer the dreaded sidewall perishing ............ to drive in fear of that horrendous blow-out potential and in a 2 ton car ..... blimey, that would be some spectacle eh ! Malc
  2. Harvey, I would say you have a pretty good result from all this as the dealer is offering you ( is he ? ) FOC on the labour charge ( at @ £190 an hour ) and do you get courtesy car too FOC and coffee and car valet too ? Might be worth sticking with them if they do come across feeling a trifle guilty and will surely look after you for the future ( maybe ) Malc
  3. I think you're probably absolutely right in your thoughts............. however, after the EV tooling has been fully depreciated etc then ............ when BP and the other " moguls " have their Hydrogen Fuel plants properly on-stream, we will see the likes of Toyota, Honda, Kia, Tata vying for pole position with Hydrogen fuel cars .... catching up with the changeover to Hydrogen Fuel by much of the world's HGVs, Buses and heaven forbid JCBs I mention Tata coz of the likely preponderance in the home-country too, to follow the India Govt quest for fuels other than oil based ........ and prioritising Tata ( hahahaha, as if they would eh ! ) and of course Tata already in the mainstream for buses and all things motorised in India ........... a growing wealth economy of 20% of the world population The world's changing and us poor souls in the West will wake up to much different and envy the motorways and motoring credence of India and Africa ..... now where's my huge Toyota Land Cruiser Amazon diesel thingy Malc
  4. Marcus hi so please remind me ...... how was the excessive structural corrosion dealt with and the 4 x perishing tyres ? from the Nov 2020 MOT and was the opportunity taken to change the cambelt, waterpump ....... and check out the cambelt pulleys ? at any time recently / over the past few years Thanks Malc Repair immediately (major defects): Nearside Rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area excessively corroded significantly reducing structural strength (5.3.6 (a) (i)) Offside Rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area excessively corroded significantly reducing structural strength (5.3.6 (a) (i)) Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories): Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing all (5.2.3 (d) (ii))
  5. maybe the speedo / mileage reading was miscalculating in some respects possibly accusations once formally, or even informally made are irretrievable and damning and the boss at the service centre would have to do something serious to a member of staff if your allegations are to be proven ....... and PROOF from YOU would be needed I feel to even start this irretrievable process ... and without it your stirring a can of worms could result in some unfortunate and challenging outcomes for ALL concerned I personally would leave it at the serious discussion level that you have already had with the Dealership itself ..... not what you want but maybe the best outcome in these specific circumstances 😊 Malc
  6. Gentlemen, I don't doubt for one minute that BP and other oil/petrol/gas moguls will develop quite quickly their Hydrogen Fuel capabilities, vide I mentioned that BP is already developing it's own specific Hydrogen Fuel plant somewhere in the north of England ............ I believe the oil moguls have significantly given up on UK based oil exploration, and won't dig for coal so Hydrogen Fuel it will most certainly be I know for a fact that BP have been developing " electric " power modes for decades in their own global research establishments and it's possibly very relevant that they haven't created their own " battery " concepts these recent decades .......... maybe coz there's better alternatives, economically etc for them to pursue commercially ..... e.g. oil and gas .............. and now Hydrogen Fuel ........ I don't think cash for research and development has ever been a limiting factor ......... just is it worth it in the long run ...... and Hydrogen Fuel seems to be the next stage for them And with the super technology for this mode already well established by the likes of Toyota and Honda and I dare say a few other motor manufacturers .... I don't doubt that this will become the clean motoring mode for the quite soon future .. say 10 / 20 years ... a mere blip in time in motoring history and development. UK Govt and others around the world will, as normal, fail in their aspirations to curtail motorists in doing much of what they wish to do, touring and travelling and commuting etc by car ....... and travelling quite quickly but I might say probably not at nano-second 0 - 100 kmh or even mph ... which speed is quite irrelevant to almost everyone on this planet .......... I'm sad to see that stupid questions asking when when when will YOU have a Hydrogen Fuel powered car to Prove whatever aren't too uncommon, even on this illustrious forum Malc
  7. it is a time consuming job for sure but other competent mechanics do it without a murmur ...... it's often best to have someone do it with some experience of a similar belt change .. pulleys and waterpump etc ......... I've read somewhere on here that Lexus itself offers cut-price servicing and jobs like this for " golden oldies " like ours I've just left it all to my indy on the rare occasions that it's ever needed doing .... 100k miles / 10 years ....... whatever is sooner Good luck AND Welcome to the LOC Malc
  8. Why just vanilla ? India is a producer of a host of wonderful spices Malc
  9. Strangely I asked this same Q when I was asked to provide a sea passage for a pax from the west coast of USA to Australia ( my travel business ) and there is no ( or was none then ) cruise ship going that way at all .... just commercial, and ONLY, at the time, HamburgSud which gave my pax the " owners " cabin for the 30 day ? voyage, via NZ etc .. and all with very personal service, wifi etc My investigations whilst producing this surprise also led me to investigate it all and Dr Oetker had 50% of it's profits ( and t/o ? ) from container shipping and it's own fleet of ships .... some £billions ........ besides factories in India producing local spices and some other odd-ball facts about the substantial and significant Dr Oetker business Malc
  10. there's a solution to this in the making right now HamburgSud ( the Dr Oetker baking people actually ) sold it's entire fleet to Maersk a year or so back Maersk has on order right now the first of probably many to come... Hydrogen Fuel Cell powered container ships Malc
  11. and probably every BP filling station in the UK as soon as the BP production capacity is up and running from the north of England ganzoom, I doubt even BP has a definitive answer for you, and they're the people investing maybe just a few £bn of their monies in this , as you might say ... " con " - cept Malc
  12. now that too could be an 'orrible cost if those 4 need replacing ...... say 150 - 200k miles longevity on the originals maybe Malc
  13. and the sensible real question is .................. dumdedumdeda ( roll of drums ) Are we likely to see an all electric IS300? not when or how or if but, I'm guessing, " ever " ?? answers on a post card please ....... one word or two could do Malc
  14. breakers or maybe buy another car for the spares ? Malc
  15. pardon me for stating the obvious but why are you asking such a stupid question ?? How is anyone on here likely to know the answer ........ bit like asking when's the country ever going to be EV chargeable ready for every EV owner Malc
  16. I think my ancient Ls400 is said to be 0 - 60 mph in 6.7 seconds .... is that the sort of acceleration you're referring to ? Malc
  17. is there really no exhaust type in-line " box " that could assist here ? has anyone really tried ? Malc
  18. is it Belgium or Holland ?, I think I was reading, that is shortly banning all HGV that is NOT hydrogen fuel cell powered
  19. probably as soon as the refuelling network is in place, via all the BP petrol stations and others too that will buy into BP's hydrogen fuel delivery capacity e.g. Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury and Morrisons.... and probably more likely for most car owners than the spasmodic opportunities to refill with electric methinks ... especially when Rishi decides to sensibly and necessarily road tax those EVs to recoup the petroleum tax revenue lost
  20. .............. and of course all this EV BEV HCV stuff is a bit nonsensical when all we really need is a good old fashioned petrol car to fill up absolutely virtually anywhere in the country, or worldwide, and get there and back after many many hours of driving ( bar useful driver rests to overcome tiredness ) .......... and us making better use of the carbon footprint already spent in creating the existing steam of vehicles, properly maintaining and servicing them ..... and NOT depleting the planet of it's precious materials to make super batteries ... and new cars too Just use them all less a little and improve, somehow, the emissions from existing vehicles on the roads ..... you're never going to get the majority of the world population to change to anything other than a good old fashioned robust hardworking petrol / diesel methinks ... no matter how hard you, me and the politicians might try Speed is not of the essence for most vehicle users globally ........ it's actually getting there .. and back Malc
  21. I was reading a couple of weeks ago that BP is investing in developing a Hydrogen Fuel Plant somewhere in the north of England Malc
  22. not too sure the absence of EV charging points in Mayfair or Kensington and Chelsea homes will impact too drastically on the prices / values ......... now where's that uber taxi I called ! ......... the sodding EVs run out of juice ... AGAIN 😵 Malc
  23. back to the pedal car then ......... " back to the future " maybe ...... ah ! the horseless carriage but with provision for a horse ........ just in case it breaks down now then .... how many of the motoring masses have stables I wonder ? ... good for the roses methinks Malc
  24. this is I'm quite certain the way we shall be going as soon as the initial ( a few years ) of the EV hype has played out ... and the lost petroleum tax revenue is made up from the inevitable EV super-road-tax that will be suggested and " reluctantly " imposed Malc
  25. are you sure this is really " typical " ? In my town, ancient ( 1368 ) and bereft of many lamposts ( where dogs pee anyway ) nor space to park outside the terraces, yellow lines etc ..... pray where does one charge-up ? not for the petrol stations, an emphatic NO ............. BP is expanding it's global site space to improve car-fall and inputting, where appropriate, EV charging points too ........ BP ( somewhere I saw in it's published financials ) says it makes at least 50% of it's forecourt profits from direct shopping ........... not fuel ..... and wishes to delay patrons as much as possible, within reason, to be good footfall thru' those stores Malc
